Jeff Bukantz on greatest MSG cage match PDF Print E-mail

Just for the record, as someone who has been at most of the cage matches at MSG over the years, including the Snuka-Muraco and Snuka-Backlund ones, Howard Finkel has forgotten what I consider the best.  The culmination of the unprecedented 4th consecutive match at MSG between Backlund and Patterson was the cage match.  Patterson's ability to work and book/call a match was evident, as while the ending was not equal to the Muraco-Snuka or Backlund-Snuka jumps from the top, the body of the match was many times superior.

It was different than the normal run the guy's head into the cage and blade match; rather, it was closer to the Los Angeles match with guys fighting on top of the cage while straddling it.  Most cage matches suck except for the blood.  This was great, probably thanks to Patterson.
