ROH TV report PDF Print E-mail
**This is a little quick report because I just got back from ROH live at Chicago Ridge, allow me a moment of marking out, as I got to run into Flair outside and: A) I got to call him Champ, and B) I told him i keep the ticket stub from Chi-Town showdown where he dropped the title to Steamboat in my wallet at all times, and he was so shocked that he actually SIGNED IT!!! **

ROH TV RECAP.

We get a run-down of the matches for the show plus ROH TV wont be airing next week, and will return in two weeks.

First match already.

Match w/out Honor: Delirious Vs. Jimmy Jacobs. [Note: At the live show Saturday night, they did a clear cut ending angle for Age of the Fall that live looked if-ish, but on TV the imagery should look cool.]

Anyway so its Jacobs and Delirious out brawling early. The action is slow and lacking the zipp and intensity, that these two usually have. Jacobs sets up a table early and they do a bunch of near calls but nothing cooking.

Jacobs gets a little light color, after a running knee into the guardrail barrier by Delirious. They do some more offense that is really lacking any emotion, kinda like they're just walking through it.

A cool spot, Delirious was set up on a folding chair outside the ring and Jacobs did a tope, Delirious moved, and Jacobs took the chair flush that had to hurt bad.

Anyway after some more lackluster work, Jacobs goes for a spear through the ropes, Delirious moved and Jacobs suicide dove straight into the table set up outside against the guardrails, table didn't break, ouch!

Jacobs stumbled toward the defiant table and idk if this was the plan, or a make up spot but Delirious did an awesome Shadows over Hell on Jacobs through the table. The air and extension Delirious got was beautiful, and the spot looked dangerous as hell.

Needless to say, Jacobs was rolled back into the ring and a 3 count was administered. Winner via pin Delirious.

Post Match: Jacobs took a rail spike he had introduced earlier in the match and began hacking at his head and arm in utter defeat, this looked...well it looked kinda silly, because he really was puncturing himself which was intense, but the live crowd just kinda disregarded it, and Hog and Praz just filled the silence with corny rambling. Just cheesiness.

Backstage Promo: American Dragon and Tyler Black ripping on the American Wolves. Danielson isn't the Rock but he really does get the job done. Tyler Black on the other hand, if goes to the big nationals TNA/WWE whatever, he is gonna need a manager, b/c his cool rating drops by like 5 points when he opens his mouth.

Introduction Promo: Its the Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson: They look 15 years old but they turned in a decent piece of talk.

Young Bucks Vs. Sal Rinaura( change in spelling?) and Brandon Day.

The Bucks dressed almost verbatim the Hardyz c.Omega days. The match starts fast and slightly furious with the Bucks doing allot of cute team sequences. Lots of quick offense with Nick Jackson really looking like a golden boy in the rough. This was essentially an enhancement match. Not a squash though. Finish was The Bucks hitting a neat little 450 splash and Moonsault splash combo on Brandon Day for the 3 count. Winner via pin The Young Bucks.

Its interview time again with Claudio : He is really sharp on the mic, just a pure star really. He challenged Brent Albright to a flag pole match in two weeks...seriously that's what he did.

Flashback to Austin Aries cutting a promo moments after picking up the world title strap. Line of the night here, as Aries finished his promo saying: "Grandma always told me not to toot my own horn, but grandma is dead so...toot---toot." nice.

Another Promo piece! American Wolves: They called Tyler Black, Ringo and Dragon, Jesus Christ but left it at that 8-[. They have great projection Edwards and Richards, they really do, anyway they assured the viewers at home that the titles would not be changing hands tonight, playing on that Ringo and Christ cant trust each other in the match....(foreshadow maybe?)

Its squash time, not that i know for sure but Mighty Ernie Osiris being reluctantly lead by Prince Nana tingles my spider senses.

Brent Albright Vs. Ernie Osiris; Things smell squishy when Osiris doesn't even want to stay in the ring. Well the bell rung and Brent immediately tried to detach Ernie's head via clothesline. Then a half nelson suplex ended this horror show. Winner via pin Brent Albright.

Post Match: Brent Albight accepted Claudio's flag pole challenge. Stating that he is truly American, and Loves America, and will defend his nation, and...do i have to continue.

Maybe I'm not much of a Patriot because, the whole gimmick is weak, secondly this promo came out sounding so hokey it was one of those annoying moments your glad non wrestling fans aren't watching, because it just came off very silly.

What was even worse was Albright using the local cheap heat to close out the promo. And the Philly fans actually chanted along with USA...So maybe I'm either not much of a patriot, or Philly is just a super mark crowd that enjoys retro angles.

MAIN EVENT TIME!

American Wolves [c] Vs. Tyler Black + Bryan Danielson

**Nigel McGuiness came out before the Wolves and cut a promo about how Black and Dragon would loose tonight b/c they couldn't trust each other.**

So the match starts off with very slow action and that's the story for about the first 20 minutes. Solid offensive sets and exchanges, but really they're just milking the clock.

Somewhat lackadaisical here.

Until around the 20 minute mark they start speeding up. And they kick it up big here, trading duo-offensive sequences on each other.  This segment of the match was highlighted by the Alarm Clock move by The American Wolves, which is a power bomb by Richards into a Carlito stlye back cracker by Edwards. Wow.

After this excitement, Tyler Black goes up for the Phoenix press on a prone Richards. Bryan Danielson went to cut Eddie Edwards off on the apron. This caused the ropes to shake and Black fell off the ropes. This caused Black and Dragon to start bickering which allowed Richards to roll up with trunks pulled for a three count. Winner via pin The American Wolves. [can we say deflation.]

Final Thoughts:

This is the first weak show, I can recall watching. Mainly because the featured matches just didn't deliver. Delirious and Jacobs was lacking emotion despite it being a consistent effort these two set a much higher bar for themselves. Ditto for the tag titles match. The finish even though the foreshadow was there, they could have been a little more imaginative with how the trust factor played out.

Other than that the only thing that was weak or borderline bad, was the whole Flag Pole thing. When Claudio was making the challenge it came off as sarcastically comical which is his bit. But Brent Alrbight didn't maintain the levity, rather he was very serious and intense in a manner. This made it, considering that this is ROH, this all felt out of place and corny.

Again the show is telling a clean consistent story. And the efforts are all there, Hog and Praz need to step down from calling the in ring action but all else is suitable.

Good Night!
