Taped around California. Welcome to another week of WWE Superstars on WGN. This was a pretty interesting show as they forwarded angles from ECW and Smackdown, though the match quality overall was down from last week. There was nothing bad, but nothing going out of your way to see unless you want to see Tyler Reks debut~! And on to the show. Santino Marella d. The Brian Kendrick I thought this would be an interesting match to see if Kendrick would be able to get an acceptable match out of Santino. It ended up being the same smoke and mirrors job to cover up Santino's limitations and it ended up being pretty fun. The match started with Santino doing a forward roll into a karate pose to the crowds delight. Kendrick with a crovat followed by a headlock by Santino. Headscissors by Kendrick and another headlock by Santino. Kendrick in the ropes. Santino counters a kick with punches. Kendrick tosses Santino and he skins the cat. Kendrick counters the skin the cat snapping the knee on the ropes. Kendrick works the knee. Santino hulks up after slaps and a pie face from Kendrick. Santino punches drops down in a split, back elbows and hiptosses The Brian Kendrick. Santino charges the corner and gets caught with a boot. two count for Kendrick as Santino grabs the bottom rope. Santino reverses a Flair-Steamboat bridging pin attempt with a sunset flip position pin for the three count. Your winner Santino Marella in 4:07. Santino celebrates with a air trumpet and hanshakes from Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole. John Morrisson d. Charlie Haas Before the match highlights of Punk vs. Morrisson from Smackdown aired. Haas and Morrisson start off with a collar and elbow into the ropes. Haas with a back elbow and punch. A irish whip leads to Morrisson sliding between Haas's legs and he deliver's arm drags. Morrisson poses and delivers a dropkick and Haas tumbles to the outside. After a fake slingshot Morrison hits a slingshot dropkick to Haas. Haas trips Morrisson as they walked up the ring steps and Morrisson takes a head dive into the steps. Haas works him over with kicks, gets a two count and applies a body scissor. Ground and Pound from Morrisson. Morrisson gets a punch, kick to the side and a capoeira kick. Clothesline, leg lariat and knee to the face gets a two count. Haas with a headbutt to the midesection. Haas with a knee to the gut, misses a kick and Morrisson hits the moonlight drive and Starship Pain for the three count. Your winner is John Morrisson in 3:35. Zach Ryder is seen headed to the ring. Zack Ryder d. Tyler Reks. I was suprised they debuted Tyler Reks on this show. Hopefully losing out the gate will not put him on the pile with Jay Bradley or Colt Cabana, as Reks showed some ability. He definitely made surfers look more "dynamic" then skateboarders. Somewhere in here Matt Striker compared Ryder to the beach term of "tool," someone who had a surfboard but didn't ride it. Interesting. Collar and elbow is fought over into corner. Headlock by Ryder. Reks elbows out , shoulder block by Ryder. Reks with a knice leapfrog and flap jack. One count for Reks. Ryder with a neck snap on the top rope to Reks. Into the buckle for Reks and Ryder kicks him with a Kennedy-esque kick, as his moveset is up for grabs. Reks with punches, countered by Ryder pulling the dreads. Reks countered a back suplex with a nice neckbreaker. Reks came off the rope with a sliding punch to the midsection that I'm going to coin "Hanging Ten" for here on out, or until properly named. Reks got a two count off a one handed bulldog. Jawbreaker by Ryder. Reks got tripped off the top rope and Ryder finished with the Zack Attack for the three count. Your winner is Zack Ryder in 2:14. This appears to start a Jimmy Wang like push, at least towards a quality first win. WWE Did You Know: WWE offers free tickets to soliders. Yes I did. Christian promo video about six months to late, and it's on SUPERSTARS. Good video though. Raw Rebound: The non-sense left behind by trump? Jim Ross and Todd Grisham run down Hardy and Punk at the Bash. I'm liking the C.M. Punk heel turn. In a non-title match: Edge d. C.M. Punk via forefeit. The World Champion C.M. Punk out first and to commercial. 12 Rounds on DVD. Boo. We are back and one half of the WWE Unified Tag Team Champions EDGE is out to a good reaction. Yay. Collar and elbow into the corner. Edge attempts an eye rake and Punk cowers into the opposite corner. I can see where this was going. Punk with kicks to the thigh, a punch and knee to the midsection for two. Body scissor by Punk and he shoots the half for a one count. Knees to the midsection of Punk and a roll up gets one for Edge. Punk with a forearm and kick that gets a two count. Punk backdrops Edge on the apron and baseball slides him out. Punk sends Edge back, charges the corner and receives a boot to the face. Punk favoring the eye as we head to break. HHH vs Cena promo for Raw. We return with Edge grinding Punks face into the mat. Punk back with kicks and forearms. Edge gets a flapjack for one. Edge with a crab hold on Punk. Punk rises for the crowd with kicks to the head, a leg lariat and a enzigiri for a two count. Punk counters a spear with a neckbreaker for a two count. Punk misses a springboard, but powerslams Edge for a two count. Running knee to the corner by Punk, but Edge shoves off the follow up bulldog. Edge counters the GTS with an eye rake. Punk can't see. Edge follows up with punches. Punk cannot continue and forfeits the match. Your winner is Edge in 12 minutes. Josh Matthews interviews C.M. Punk after the match. He asks if Punk would forfeit a title match due to injury. Punk didn't really answer the question sayhing that he can't compete injured and would give Edge a rematch once he is healthy to a mixed response. The whole interview Punk sold the eye while being worked on by a ring side doctor. They replay the eyerake and Punk selling to close the show. Recap: A pretty decent show, nothing as good as the Kofi vs. MVP vs. Hardy match, but a really fun show. Reks if given a chance could be nice addition as he is solid out the gate. The C.M. Punk turn has been very intricate and fun and I like how it's continue at this rate. The eventual feuds with Edge and Jericho down the road should be good. See you next week with more taped matches.
