Welcome to our live coverage of the CMLL's 80th anniversary show from Arena Mexico. We're looking for your thoughts on tonight's show, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to
FUEGO & STUKA JR. & REY COMETA VS. OKAMURA & NAMAJAGUE & TOMOHIRO ISHII
The Japanese team won in the third fall when Ishii pinned Stuka Jr. with a delayed superplex. The Japanese won the first fall. The Mexicans won the second fall. The third fall was fun with the Mexicans doing flashy dives and cool moves with great heat.
As soon as the third fall ended the stream went down.
EUFORIA & NIEBLA ROJA & MEPHISTO VS. BRAZO DE PLATA & MAXIMO & TITAN
Euforia & Niebla Roja & Mephisto won this in the third fall when Euforia used a dragon sleeper on Maximo and Mephisto picked up Brazo de Plata, which isn't easy since the guy is close to 400 pounds, and used a standing chicken wing. The rudos, which is Mephisto's team, took the first fall, tecnicos the second. Titan did this running flying dive off the ramp and Porky did a tope.
EL TERRIBLE & SHOCKER & NEGRO CASAS VS. MARCO CORLEONE & RUSH & VANGELIS
Welcome to 1983, Terrible came out to La Grange like it's World Class Wrestling. People reacted to Terrible like a big-time star and he is the owrld heavyweight champion. Shocker followed coming out to Baker Street. Will the next guy come out to Roy Orbison? Negro Casas came out to Latin music. More La Grange, and here comes Vangelis. Here comes Rush to Benoit's music.
This was a parejas increibles, with heels and faces teaming. The third fall finish saw Rush, a face, pin Negro Casas with a power bomb and holding the ropes. Could be a Rush heel turn. Short third fall. Nothing much as a match but the crowd hates Rush, like Cena times ten. They went crazy whenever he was being beaten down, particularly by Casas. Vangelis pinned Shocker with a Northern lights suplex in the first fall and Shocker cradled Vangelis in the second after Corleone used Air Italia.
BLUE PANTHER VS. AVERNO HAIR VS. HAIR
Panther won the first fall via shoulder submission. Averno won the second fall in less than a minute with a heel hook. Long third fall. Panther is really old, looks old, but he tried, doing three different topes in the third fall. The third tope hit Mephisto, Averno's second. Third fall was weird as twice Averno had Panther beat but Tirantes refused to count the fall because it was submissions only. Tirantes is usually a heel ref and Averno is the heel and mad about it. Finish saw Averno use two power bombs on Panther, but Panther then caught Averno in the Fujiwara armbar. Mephisto threw in the towel for Averno and Panther released and celebrated. Tirantes didn't see the towel, and he really didn't. As Panther told Tirantes about the towel being thrown in, Averno came from behind with a rear naked choke and Panther had to submit.
The famed legendary barber, who has been around forever, came in and shaved Panther's head.
Slow match but everything made sense. Averno had to really slow down his usual style though.
ATLANTIS & ULTIMO GUERRERO VS. LA SOMBRA & VOLADOR JR. - WINNERS HAVE A MASK VS. MASK SINGLES MATCH
A short match with near falls back and forth until Sombra pinned Atlantis and with a one arm clean into a supbacksulexand Voaldor Jr. pinning Guerrero after a Spanish fly. Crowd not happy about this. They wanted Atlantis vs. Ultimo Guerrero as the mask match.
MISTICO & MASCARA DORADA & VALIENTE DEFEND THE CMLL WORLD TRIOS TITLES AGAINST DRAGON ROJO JR. & REY ESCORPION & POLVORA
Mistico & Dorada & Valiente retained when Mistico used La Mistica to submit Rojo (I think) in the third fall. The third fall was a series of unreal dives. including Mistico doing a springboard shooting star press onto the floor on Escorpion. You can really see how much the fliers trust Escorpion when they do their crazy dives. Two short falls and third fall was a series of dives and high spots. For what these guys are supposed to bring, they were great here.
LA SOMBRA VS. VOLADOR JR. MASK VS. MASK
Sombra won the third fall with a sunset flip power bomb, almost like a Canadian Destroyer, where he dropped Volador Jr right on his head after a 20:00 third fall where both kicked out of one big move after another. Tons of dives including both doing moonsaults off the top rope to the floor and everything else you could think of. I'm not used to this style where they just do really crazy moves for near falls over and over. The crowd badly wanted Volador Jr. to win. It was a spectacle and the crowd heat was super, but if most American wrestlers saw this they'd crap on the work. Incredible moves to be sure and a great spectacle . They did everything and then some to make it a special match. He unmasked as Ramon Ibarra Rivera, 32 years old, from Monclova, Coahuila. Really I think it was Bryan Alvarez under that mask. Crowd booing as the show ends with Voaldor Jr. leaving. Sombra is in the ring holding Volador's mask as the match ended.
