Thumbs Way Up
Best Match - Ishii vs Tanahashi
Worst Match - Archer vs Devitt
Well worth the $150 so far. I had Ibushi vs Naito at a solid 4 stars and thought it would steal the show until the main event. I do agree New Japan should have had an option to purchase these separately, but there are no complaints from me so far, other than I need more sleep these past two nights! You weren't kidding when you said Block A was packed, and so far, it has delivered
G1 feedback for day 2.
Honest to God, this was one of the best shows I've seen in years top to bottom. Everything was super entertaining at the very least. The main event was incredible, and for me a five star match. It was the perfect match in the perfect building with the perfect guys. Ishii was out of this world.
Other matches which were outstanding were Shibata/Kojima and Naito/Ibushi. Both probably around ****1/2. Goto/Okada, Devitt/Archer and Nakamura/Suzuki were also great.
Thumbs WAAAAY up
Best Match - Tanahashi vs. Ishii
Worst Match - Makabe vs. Smith (but it was a very good match!)
I just want to recommend Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Tomohiro Ishii - that match was just great and is easily the best match of the first two nights so far.
I was up all night watching the show on the East Coast, and I can only describe it in a way that I planned on getting some rest after the show ended, but it was so great that it just kind of jazzed me up so much I just woke up. Still haven't gone to sleep. It's fun! Go out of your way to see it!
Plan on watching all 9 shows and if the rest are anything like the first two then this is going to be a heck of a tournament.
Best Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Satoshii Kojima
Worst Match: Shelton Benjamin vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan
Very good show overall.
The first five of matches were largely ok to good with Shibata and Davey Boy Smith Jr. being very good. The last five matches were also very good with Nagata vs. Suzuki and Kojima vs. Tanahashi (minus the little mess up at the finish) being the best of a good bunch.
Best Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Tomohiro Ishii
Worst Match: Karl Anderson vs. Shelton Benjamin (wasn't that bad tbh)
This was an excellent show with an unbelievable main event. If anybody had doubts about Hiroshi Tanahashi being the absolute best wrestler in the world right now then they should watch the main event. Ishii was already over as heck with the Korakuen crowd but today it was brought to a whole new level. Certainly a must see match for me anyway and it's up there with the best stuff from anywhere in the world this year for my money.
The rest of the show also had some very good matches. Kojima clearly brought his working boots this year because following on from the Tanahashi match on yesterday's show he had another very good outing against Shibata. Shibata has such a unique presence about him and I really hope he gets to the final. Naito and Ibushi was another very good all action match and Nakamura and Suzuki was also very good, as was Goto and Okada. The matches on the first half of the show obviously weren't as good as the second half but they were all kept relatively short and certainly not bad.
Tomorrow's show in Aichi should be ok. The lineup is probably one of the weakest on paper but I'm sure they'll be a few very strong matches on it. The Sunday show in Osaka however, looks to be absolutely amazing on paper and has so many matches that could be incredible.
