Tonight's show at Arena Mexico is canceled

by Kris Zellner

EMLL announced earlier today that they were cancelling their show at Arena Mexico tonight due to the big protest that is going on at Televisa's headquarters which is a couple of blocks away from the building. They are fearing some serious security issues if they went on with the show so their best bet was to just go ahead and cancel the show. The protest that is going on is a 24-hour protest held by Yo Soy 132 because Televisa was accused of basically encouraging people to vote for Enrique Peña Nieto who won the election and the people that are protesting think that their power was the difference. The protestors believed that they placed Nieto on a pedestal and didn't criticize him at all while bashing his opponent Andrés Manuel López Obrador which Televisa has denied vigorously. Televisa's offices are so close to Arena Mexico that they use Arena Mexico for parking fairly regularly and with police closing off the streets and surrounding area for crowd control reasons the fact that thousands of people showing up for a lucha show would add even more chaos. The last time EMLL cancelled a show at Arena Mexico was during the H1N1 virus epidemic in Spring 2009.
