NIK LENTZ VS. EIJI MITSUOKA, FEATHERWEIGHTS
First round: Lentz landed a good right. Trading punches from short range. Lentz dropped him with a knee. Lentz now has his back. High slam takedown. Mitsuoka back to his feet. Lentz softening up the thigh. Lentz got another takedown. Big left by Lentz. A punch and takedown by Lentz. Another takedown by Lentz. Lentz pounding on him from the back. Lentz continues to pound on him and the ref stopped it. Lentz looked strong in his debut as a featherweight.
DUSTIN PAGUE VS. CHICO CAMUS, BANTAMWEIGHTS
First round: Pague landed a left. Camus landed a a punch. Both landed punches and Pague landed harder. Pague went for a kick and Camus used it to take Pague down. Pague working for a triangle from the bottom. Pague throwing elbows from the bottom while working to lock the triangle on. He doesn’t have the triangle but Pague continues to throw elbows from the bottom. More elbows from the bottom by Pague. Pague had to give up the triangle as he was burning out his legs and he didn’t have it on even though Joe Rogan kept saying he had it locked. Pague got an uma plata but Pague escaped that was well. Camus threw some punches and now Pague is bleeding. Camus was landing pucnhes late. This will be interesting scoring because Camus was on top, but Pague controlled him most of the way and did elbows from the bottom. Pague 10-9
Second round: This time Camus threw a kick and Pague used that to take Camus down. Camus back up. Pague threw a punch and Camus ducked and took him down. Camus landing punches and moved to side control. Pague got up late. Not much of a round. Camus’ round 19-19 going into the third.
Third round: They gave each other high fives to start the round. Pague took Camus down and got his back right away. Pague going for a choke. . Now he’s got a body triagnle. Nice spin by Camus and now he’s on top. Pague throwing elbows from the bottom. Camus moved to full mount. There’s one minute left and Camus is ahead at this pont. Camus now has Pague’s back and working for a choke. Pague now has the choke with about 11 seconds left. Pague escaped but time ran out. Camus’ round should win 29-28, but he has to take the fight. Pretty ordinary fight.
Scores: 29-28, 30-27 and 29-28 for Camus
ERIK PEREZ VS. KEN STONE, BANTAMWEIGHTS
First round: Perez is one of the youngest fighters in the UFC today. They traded, Stone hurt Perez with a punch and in the next change, Perez knocked Stone down with a right and Stone went down face first. After three punches on the ground, Stone’s eyes went blank and Herb Dean grabbed Perez to stop it. Then, after it was over, Stone turned him over and was on top. The fans didn’t like the stoppage since Stone was on top but there was a split second lights out there and it’s the ref’s job to stop it as a lights out. This was the fastest KO in UFC or WEC bantamweight history. :17. As back-and-forth a 17 second fight as you’ll see.
MICHAEL KUIPER VS. JARED HAMMAN, MIDDLEWEIGHTS
First round: Hamman is the home town favorite from Denver. Kuiper is from Holland. Knee by Hamman. Interesting Hamman fights like he’s from Holland. Body kick by Hamman and another. Kuiper landed a right and a left. Knee and a left by Hamman. Hamman landing kicks to the leg and body. Kuiper with a nice left hook. Kuiper with a power takedown. Hamman back up. Kuiper tried a back suplex but Hamman blocked it. Kuiper landed a hard right. Hamman back with a right. Now Kuiper with a low kick and a knee. Kuiper landed a right that hurt him. Another big right by Kuiper. Kuiper landing good punches. Both landing big shots and Kuiper put him down with another punch. Now Hamman back with punches but Kuper landed big shots. High kick by Kuiper. Left by Kuiper. Hamman is throwing punches but they don’t have the power as Kuiper’s blows. Kuiper 10-9. Hamman is in a lot of trouble.
Second round: Hamman has a torn muscle in his thigh. And now he’s coming out for the second round. Kuiper kicking the right leg. Hamman landed somepunches but Kuiper hurt him with a left. Kuiper dropped him with a left and now throwing punches on the ground. . Hamman backup again. This is a hell of a gutsy performance by Hamman even though he’s probably losing this fight. Hamann fired away with two big punches and Hamman back up. Another big right by Kuiper. Another right uppercut and Hamman went down and finally the ref stopped it. Now Hamman’s leg is killing him. 2:16
TOMMY HAYDEN VS. DENNIS BERMUDEZ, FEATHERWEIGHTS
First round: Bermudez is walking around like he’s possessed before the match started. Bermudez picked him up and put him on his back. Bermudez landed a knee as Hayden got up. Hayden landed knee that rocked Bermudez, putting him down. Hayden got behind him working for a choke. Hayden with an armbar. Bermudez slammed him out of it and now Bermudez is on top. Front kick by Bermudez hurt Hayden. Now Bermudez is working for a standing guillotine and Hayden tapped out. Good match. Bermudez did a backflip after the match.
So far this is a good show.
MAX HOLLOWAY VS. JUSTIN LAWRENCE, FEATHERWEIGHTS
First round: Holloway at 20 is the youngest fighter on the UFC roster. Lawrence landed the overhand right. Front kick by Lawrence. Holloway threw a high kick but blocked. Holloway landed a low kick. Holloway landed a good punch. Left by Lawrence. Holloway nailed him in the groin. Lawrence is also already bleeding. Holloway apologized right away. Lawrence took him down. Holloway landed a kick and Lawrence back with a right. Lawrence bleeding pretty bad. Lawrence with a few punches. Body punch by Lawrence. Overhand right by Lawrence. Holloway with a high kick. Holloway landed a knee to the groin. Lawrence was mad about this one. Close round. Lawrence 10-9 almost 10-10.
Second round: Side kick by Lawrence. Body kick by Holloway. Lawrence back with a body kick. Spinning bakfist by Lawrence. Nice right by Holloway. Body kick by Holloway. Overhand right by Lawrence but Holloway ducked most of it. Lawrence tried a takedown but Holloway blocked him. Fans getting restless. Lawrence with a right and a left. Now some booing. Lawrence moving in with punches. Lawrence rushed in for the takedown but Holloway stuffed him again. Holloway landed the right. Knee to the body by Holloway. Nice counter punches by Holloway. Holloway with a body shot and Lawrence went down and after a flurry on the ground the ref stopped it. Left knee to the body and a left to the liver, followed by a series of punches on the ground and it was stopped.
YUSHIN OKAMI VS. BUDDY ROBERTS, MIDDLEWEIGHTS
First round:Roberts landed a left. Roberts missed a head kick. Good left by Roberts. Right jab by Okami. Both landed good punches. Another left by Roberts. In a clinch. Roberts with a knee. Okami working for a takedown. Roberts is like a cat, he’s got some great balance. He always lands on his feet. Okami almost got him down. Finally, Okami dragged him down. Okami now on top. Crowd booing. Okami moved to side control. Now full mount. Okami to back control. Okami landing strong punches as the round was ending The bell may have saved Roberts, but I can’t give a 10-8. 10-9 Okami.
Second round: Roberts threw a punch and slipped. Robers hurt Oakmi with a left. Okami moved into a clinch. He’s behind Roberts and took him down again. Roberts went for a guillotine but that allowed him to get up. Okami took him down agian. Okami in full mount. Okami has his back and pounding on Roberts. Roberts is in trouble now. Okami is throwing a million punches. Roberts isn’t hurt but he’s not getting out of trouble either. It was stopped. Fans were booing the stoppage a lot. Roberts did block almost all the punches.
JAKE SHIELDS VS. ED HERMAN, MIDDLEWEIGHTS
First round: Herman working for a takedown. What mistake of an idea that is. Sheilds tried a takedown but couldn’t get it. Shields with body punches. Shields tried a guillotine but didn’t have it. Both trading knees from the clinch. Shields got the trip takedown. Shields got his back but Herman got up and escaped. They were back in the clinch near the fence. Knee by Herman to the body. Shields tried a hiptoss but it didn’t work. Shields trying for a takedown but not getting it. Shields with a takedown but Herman right back up. ;Fans booing he clinch work. Knee by Shields . Herman has underhooks as time ran out. Very close but Shields 10-9.
Second round: Herman moved in for a clinch and wants the takedown. Shields took him down with an outside trip. Shields working for a Kimura from side control. Herman escaped. Shields wants to move to mount. Shields with a few elbows from the top. Crowd booing. Shields with more elbows from the top. Shields on top. Ref warned them for inaction. Herman regained guard. Both with short punches and elbows. Boring round and crowd is booing. Shields now landing punches to the face. Shields round for sure, should be up 20-18. Crowd booing the hell out of both of them
Third round: Shields went for the takedown but Herman blocking. Now Herman wants to strike. He should have wanted this from round one. Shields got the clinch. Herman took Shields down but let him up. Herman landing some uppercuts. Shields moving in for a takedown and took Herman down. Shields in side control. This may win him the fight because Shields now only has to do the big freeze. Shields in full mount. Herman regained guard. Shields staying on top grinding out the decision. Both throwing a lot of punches. Herman throwing more from the bottom but Shields is still going to win the decision, should be 30-27. Crowd didn’t like this fight at all. Not a great showing by Shields but enough to win.
Scores: 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27 for Shields. Crowd booed and cheered the decision. Crowd booing Shields like crazy during his interview. Shields said the altitude hurt him. Said he underestimated the altitude and even said he was embarrassed about that, next time said he’ll spending three weeks getting ready.
MELVIN GUILLARD VS. DONALD CERRONE, LIGHTWEIGHTS
First round: Cerrone got a very big reaction. Fans booing Guillard. Guillard dropped him with a left hook counter right away and has Cerrone in big trouble. Guillard landed a knee, an upper cut, elbows. Cerrone has never been knocked out and he may here. Guillard landed another right. Cerrone landed a left high kick and a straight right hand that knocked Guillard out. Great one minute fight. 1:16 Crowd going freaking crazy here.
BENSON HENDERSON VS. FRANKIE EDGAR FOR THE UFC LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE
First round: Henderson is smaller than usual while Edgar is larger. What that means, time will tell. Slow start. Good low kick by Henderson. Edgar throwing but landing short. Another good low kick by Henderson. Edgar landed a strong right. Another low kick and now they are scrambling on the ground and both ended up on their feet. Henderson threw a kick to the leg but Edgar out of the way. Edgar’s left calf already swollen. Henderson moved in with punches that really didn’t land. Knee by Henderson and Edgar with a right. Edgar landed a kick. Much slower than peole expected in this round. Another low kick and Edgar took him down off it. Henderson with a guillotine with 20 seconds left. Edgar survived it. Henderson 10-9.
Second round: Another low kick to the left calf and it knocked Edgar off his feet. Edgar caught the leg and a body kick by Edgar. Henderson threw the kick, Edgar grabbed it. Edgar dropped him with a right. Edgar working for a guillotine. That move never works on Henderson. Henderson to his feet. Henderson went for takedown but Edgar blocked it. Uppercut by Edgar. Body kick by Henderson. Good round. 10-9 Edgar so 19-19 at this point.
Third round: High kick by Henderson. Another high kick blocked by Edgar. Knee and uppercut by Henderson. Good left jab by Henderson. Edgar with a body punch. Henderson with a left jab. Low kick by Edgar. Two more lwo kicks by Edgar. Hendeson threw two kciks by Edgar caught the kics twice. Body shot by Edgar. Henderson with a side kick and a low kick. Edgra with a kick to the body. Good right by Henderson. Tough round to call. I had 10-10 so 29-29 at this point.
Fourth round: Henderson with a kick and a knee. Left by Henderson. Low kick by Henderson. Henderson with a low kick and Edgar back with a right. Henderson with a right. Right jab by Henderson and low kick by Edgar. Henderson threw a kick and Edgar took him down. Henderson from the ground threw a head kick to Edgar. Edgar going for a guillotine. Henderson never submits to a guillotine, he’s guillotine proof. Edgar threw a knee and Henderson out of it. But that’s going to score points for Edgar. Body kick by Edgar and two jabs by Henderson. Henderson with a good left jab. Both traded punches. Low kick by Edgar. Right by Henderson. Edgar back with a right. Henderson taunting him as time runs out in the round but Edgar landed the right. Body kick but Edgar caught it. I’ve got that for Edgar so I’ve got Edgar 39-38 but it’s a close round.
Fifth round: Edgar landed a right. Edgar shoved down Henderson. Edgar landed a right. Crowd chanting Frankie so I think they see him winning the fight. Henderson landed two shots. Edgar in with a right. Henderson with a kick but Edgar caught it. Edgar back with a kick. Left by Henderson. Uppercut and a right by Henderson. Edgar back with punches. This round is close. Henderson in with a a punch and kick landed on the break of a clinch. A low kick caused Henderson to stumble. Right by Henderson. Knee by Henderson. Last minute and it’s anyone’s fight. Edgar with a body punch. Henderson landed a left that nearly knocked Edgar’s mouthpiece out. Edgar landed a right. Missed high kick and Henderosn nailed him with a head kick. Holy shit is this hard to judge. I’d go 10-10 again so Edgar 49-48. Rounds 3, 4 and 5 are anyone’s guess and whoever wins is the lucky one.
Scores: 49-46 Edgar 48-47 Henderson 48-47 Henderson. Edgar is furious. It is what it is. I can’t call it a bad call. Anything 49-46 or 48-47 either way is a viable score.
Henderson was confused, thought 49-46 was weird. Henderson kissed up to the fans who were booing him. Edgar said it doesn’t matter what he thought. He was very disappointed. Edgar thought he brought it to him.
