UFC News: Stephan Bonnar, Dave Herman both fail UFC 153 drug test

Stephan Bonnar and Dave Herman both failed their drug tests following UFC 153 in Rio de Janeiro.

Bonnar tested positive for the anabolic steroid Drostanolone after his loss to Anderson Silva.

MMAjunkie.com originally reported the story, which we confirmed with UFC sources who said that when Bonnar was told about the positive test, "He did not deny it."

Drostanolone is a steroid used by fighters usually to maintain strength while doing a hard weight cut.  Bonnar had tested positive for the steroid Boldenone in 2006 after a fight with Forrest Griffin, which he attributed at the time to trying to heal himself after an injury in the last two weeks before the bout.

Also testing positive: heavyweight Dave Herman, who lost on the show to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.  Herman tested positive for marijuana, which would be his second positive as he had previously failed for marijuana last year.

The UFC has not decided on fines and/or suspensions and in the case of Bonnar, a suspension is a moot point because he announced his retirement earlier this week.
