UFC fines Anderson Silva $50,000 for missing media appearance
Dana White announced today in an interview with USA Today that he had fined Anderson Silva $50,000 when he flew home to Brazil today, and thus missed a full day of media appearances scheduled in Los Angeles to promote his fight with Chris Weidman.
UFC had arranged a full day of television, radio and print media interviews for Silva to coincide with tickets going on sale Wednesday for the UFC 162 show in Las Vegas.
White complained that promoting fights is part of Silva's contractual obligations, and that everybody continually asks for more money, but then don't want to promote the fight and help generate the money.
"Talking to the media is part of your job, whether you like it or not," White siad when announcing the fine.
