WWE Main Event TV report

Airdate: May 8, 2013

WWE Main Event from Raleigh (listed only as North Carolina State University in opening graphics) had Antonio Cesaro in another long main event style match after being in a much talked about match last week with Kofi Kingston. On this episode, Randy Orton was in a match with Cesaro and while it had a slower pace than the encounter with Kofi, it was still a strong performance. On commentary, Michael Cole and JBL really put over Cesaro as being a great wrestler and a “throwback”.

Randy Orton beat Antonio Cesaro via pinfall.

After circling each other, Orton and Cesaro started the match with a traditional collar and elbow lockup before moving on to chain wrestling. Cesaro took Orton down with a head lock takeover only to get caught in a head scissors. Cesaro flipped backwards out of it and reversed it into a leglock on Orton then back into a headlock and a reversal by Orton. They locked up again with a collar and elbow that led to them running the ropes and Orton went down after a shoulder block only to leap frog Cesaro and hit a backhanded elbow that knocked down Cesaro. Orton used the Garvin stomp and a leaping knee drop as the crowd began to chant for Orton.

Just before a commercial break, Cesaro backed Orton into a corner and perched him on the top turnbuckle. Orton was hit and knocked out to the floor where he clutched at his shoulder. He would sell the shoulder being hurt throughout the remainder of the match and Cesaro would work it over. During the break, an ad for Raw this Monday plugged the dance off between Fandango and Chris Jericho.

Back in the ring, Cesaro applied a head lock to a downed Orton but he got to his feet and fought back yet ran into a knee lift. Cesaro stalked Orton, speared him in a corner and took him down to the mat again with a snap mare before using a double foot stomp. Cesaro used a delayed gut wrench suplex then a running uppercut into the corner on Orton, who rolled out of the ring. After using a double ax handle off the ring apron, Cesaro dropped Orton shoulder first on the barricade. Cole put over Orton’s history of shoulder problems.

Once in the ring again, Cesaro applied a sleeper hold and when Orton struggled free, they exchanged uppercuts then Cesaro landed several in a row before hitting the ropes and running into a couple clotheslines and a powerslam by Orton. Cesaro rolled out to the apron and blocked the draping DDT with a back drop that sent Orton out on to the apron. Orton blocked a German suplex by holding on the top rope and knocked Cesaro to the floor before diving off the apron and hitting the barricade with the shoulder he was selling as being hurt.

After a commercial break, Cesaro rammed Orton’s arm into the post and climbed to the top rope. Orton hit a dropkick on Cesaro as he jumped off the top but Cesaro reversed a front face lock then barred Orton’s arm. Orton rolled free and used a falling backbreaker. Orton ran into a scoop slam pieldriver (like a Michinoku Driver) and Cesaro climbed to the top turnbuckle. Orton cut him off and used a superlex off the top only to run into a knee as he charged into a corner. Cesaro nailed him with an uppercut from behind and barred the arm but Orton got a rope break. Cesaro charged towards Orton who sent him out to apron and into the draping DDT. Orton signaled for the RKO but Cesaro blocked it, tossed Orton into the air and landed an uppercut. Orton appeared limp as Cesaro picked him up off the mat only for Orton to spring up and hit the RKO for the pin.

Afterwards, the “Raw Rebound” focused on the Ryback and John Cena feud. A plug aired for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and a video package recapped Brock Lesner smashing up Triple H’s office.

The Usos and Justin Gabriel beat 3MB in a six man tag team match via pinfall.

Justin Gabriel cut a promo before the match and said he found two partners for a match against 3MB and he introduced the Usos. The match began with a quick pace with frequent tags. The babyfaces had the advantage on 3MB until Jinder Mahal sent one Uso brother into the ropes and Heath Slater pulled down the top rope. Uso tumbled to the floor and the heels got heat on him. Jay finally tagged Jimmy and he ran wild for a moment then used a Rikishi splash before tagging Gabriel, who came into the ring with a springboard splash and also used a springboard moonsault. 3MB tried to regroup at ringside but Gabriel used a plancha only to get caught by 3MB. A Uso then dove over the ropes and knocked them all down. After some fast paced exchanges where almost everyone hit a big move, Gabriel hit the 450 splash on Gabriel after a tornado DDT and got the pin.

This was a great episode of Main Event. While the featured match was solid yet maybe not as great as the match a week ago, the entire episode itself was great with a good technical match and an action-packed six man tag with a lot of highspots.
