Here are the results for tonight's show at the Rostraver Ice Gar
dens, a little south of Pittsburgh. The crowd was a little light tonight. I'm thinking the likely factors were the relatively weak lineup and game six of the Penguins-Islanders playoff series that took place at the same time.
Before the show started,
Jay Briscoe apologized
for his Twitter rant against gay marriage this past week. On his way to the back, he hugged the COO of ROH, who was visible from time to time the rest of the night.
Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino were commentating at ringside.
The card opened with Davey Richards/Eddie Edwards vs. Q.T. Marshall. I was impressed that Edwards and Richards were able to get the crowd into the match against such low level competition. The American Wolves won with simultaneous submission holds. Marshall tapped out to Richards' ankle lock, and Evans tapped to Edwards' rolling half crab.
Tommaso Ciampa pinned
Vinny Marseglia after an Air
rash from 2nd rope
. Ciampa blew a leapfrog over Marseglia when his bad knee gave out early on in the match, but put forth a solid effort that got the crowd behind him. It's clear that Ciampa has some ring rust to work off.
Proving Ground match: TV Champion Matt
Martini and two women) defeated Tadarius Thomas with the Arm Trap Headlock Driver. Truth and his women were tossed from ringside just before the end of the match after they were caught interfering in the match. I felt Truth's act came across as low rent in person... his awful music certainly doesn't help the cause.
pinned ACH after hitting a buckle bomb and the spinning Doctor Bomb. Elgin and ACH had a strong "big man-high flyer" match. The crowd was going nuts by the end. I'd say this was the best match of the night.
After intermission, two jobbers went at it for a few minutes before Rhett Titus came into the ring and laid them both out. I didn't catch these guys' names. One had peacock feathers on his tights, the other had "MUDD" on his tights.
Kevin Steen came down to break up the assault. Steen eventually prevailed over Titus after hitting a package piledriver. Steen left the ring. As Titus was trying to recover, Steen came back in, kicked Titus in the groin, and then hit two more package piledrivers, much to the delight of the crowd.
s. BJ Whitmer - BJ pinned Adam Cole after a Wrist-Clutch Exploder.
No DQ Match- Jimmy
small packaged Jay
for the win
a spear through a table in the corner.
Prior to the end of the match, Corino slipped into the ring to help Jacobs. Kevin
came down to the ring to drive Corino out, but his save backfired, leading to Jacobs winning the match
ROH World Tag Team Championship match- reDRagon (Kyle O'Reilly/Bobby Fish) vs. The Briscoes (Mark and Jay)- While the ref was distracted, O'Reilly hit Mark in the back of the head with a title belt. Fish then hit Mark with a high round kick for the pin.
Following the match, the American Wolves and BJ Whitmer helped the Briscoes beat down Fish and O'Reilly. Whitmer ended the card by saying his career goals would be fulfilled by winning the ROH World Title next week in Richmond, VA.
One fan brought streamers for everyone. A fan in dreadlocks tried to catch one and did the bump of the night as he ended up doing a Seth Rollins rolling flip to get it on the hard rink floor.
Jay Briscoe came out and said he put out a few stupid tweets and said he apologies. He said he had a responsibility as champion and didn't act like a champion.
He said someone on twitter couldn't believe he was such a redneck hillbilly. He then said "Jay Briscoe isn't even my real name" and said he was too in-character.
