UFC 160 Conference Call - May 14, 2013

UFC 160 takes place on May 25th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Dave Sholler is the moderator for today's UFC 160 conference call. On the line as participants are the four men in the top two fights - heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, his opponent Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva, and co-main events Mark Hunt and Junior Dos Santos. Dave says that Hunt has a visa issue that they expect to have cleared up in time for him to be on the card.

Cain Velasquez on fighting Bigfoot a second time.: "This is a whole new fight. Obvious we saw what Bigfoot can do in the past two fights so, I definitely can't take him lightly, he's a tough competitor, he's really dangerous and tough in the Octagon so, I don't see this as anything less than a hard grueling fight."

If the co-main determines a #1 contender, does he prefer to fight either man? "No preference for me at all. Let the best man win.  I'm not thinking about that fight at all - I'm just thinking about the fight against Bigfoot."

Does Mark Hunt feel a win over Junior Dos Santos puts him next in line? "It should really yeah. If I can beat Junior it should put me into the #1 spot. I don't see why it wouldn't. He's a former world champion, it'll be a great match for me, we'll see how it goes."

Mark explains a little bit more about his visa issue. "(It's) just some stupid misunderstanding, that's all it is. It was just something that happened a long time ago, and it should be cleared up, so hopefully I can fly out here this week sometime, tomorrow - tonight - whenever."

What is Mark's status at the moment? "The only thing I got from the U.S. consulate was 'We'll call you.' He said he had instructions not to give me a visa yesterday. It was like trying to talk to a brick wall. It was a no and he said we'll call you and that's all the information I got."

How important is it to Cain to successfully defend the title? "To me right now it's the most important thing, to defend it, to hold onto it. This is the position I want to be in, so I have to go out there and perform."

Is Junior excited that a win gets him another shot at the heavyweight title? "It's a motivation (but) I don't think about that right now. I focus on my fight against Mark Hunt. Mark Hunt's my next opponent, Mark Hunt's the guy I need to be focused on. It'll be great to have a title shot again if I beat Mark Hunt, for sure that motivates me, but it's not what I'm thinking about now."

Does Bigfoot think he can avenge his defeat from the last time he fought Cain? "I like when people underestimate me. It's nice. I get to go out there and I get to show them wrong. You know there's no superheroes in this sport. Nobody is invincible. I've been putting in a lot of hard work for the last 9 weeks. I've been preparing myself and I'm very confident that I'm going to have my arm raised on May 25th."
