UFC nails Diaz with $20,000 fine, suspension for gay slur

The UFC announced this afternoon that Nate Diaz is being fined $20,000 and suspended for three months stemming from his remarks on Twitter yesterday.

"UFC lightweight Nate Diaz has received an immediate 90-day suspension and $20,000 fine for violating UFC's fighter code of conduct," said a statement released by the company.  "The language used in his tweet was regrettable, offensive and inconsistent with the values and culture of the organization, and is not tolerated.  The money will be donated to charity."

Diaz used the word f-g in a tweet directed at Bryan Caraway for accepting the best submission bonus from UFC 159 that was originally earmarked for Pat Healy.  Healy tested positive for marijuana after his win over Jim Miller on April 27 in Newark, N.J.  UFC policy is that bonuses are not paid until fighers have completed and passed all drug testing.
