Here is a recap of OVW TV Episode 719 which will air in Louisville on 6/1. The show opens with the Coalition in their headquarters with OUR OVW Tag Team Champions "The Washington Generals" (Crimson and Jason Wayne) addressing the troops. Wayne says that he and Crimson didn't go overseas twice and put their lives on the line so that 2 "stinking civilians" (Michael "not PS" Hayes and Mohamed Ali Vaez) can makes them look like fools! Wayne declares that they will pay! Crimson (wearing a gas mask and carrying a machete) admits that he failed his men but then rallies them and promises a counterstrike tonight!
On to ringside with OUR OVW Announce Team of Dean Hill, “Anchorman” Gilbert Corsey, and “Rocky Mountain Mouth” Michael Titus who is really happy, probably about finally being added to the OVW roster page. Actually he tells us that he has a big announcement coming up! Questions abound as to the alliance of long-time enemies Hayes and Ali. Also, Titus is doing the ring announcing tonight.
Match #1: Marcus Anthony vs "Mobile Homer" Adam Revolver
Gilbert notes that Revolver is out for revenge after his brother "Man-Beast" Ted McNaler was injured last week during his match with Anthony, also telling us that McNaler is recovering and will be out of action for a while. Titus is still happy about his big announcement later as he feels he is finally getting the recognition he deserves. Revolver tries to leapfrog but Anthony grabs him and powerslams him for 2 then squashes him in the corner. Revolver fights back but Anthony kneelifts him and slams him again then pulls down his kneepad. Revolver rolls away from the naked kneedrop and targets that leg, even wrapping it around the ringpost. Revolver goes up top and hits a crossbody for 2 but Anthony blocks his legsweep try and gives him the Gamma Punch for the pin. Anthony 2, Mobile Homers 0.
The next Saturday Night Special is the evening of 6/1 but Titus interrupts to give us his big announcement: Later tonight, he will do an exclusive in-ring interview with Hayes and Vaez!
Taeler Hendrix is in the back putting on some makeup while wearing a black leather top and red polka dot skirt. Nikki St. John comes up and inquires about the status of "Teidi". Taeler tells Nikki it's not what she thinks, it's really that Taeler wants something and will use someone to get it so she doesn't get her hands dirty. Nikki smiles as "Mr. PEC-tacular" Jessie Godderz wanders over to tell the ladies that they are looking at the next OVW Champion. The girls have him talk to the hand, so Godderz walks away and encounters "Team Boomstick" Jay Bradley. Godderz greets him with "What's up dipstick?". Godderz tells Bradley to just call him "Mr. Opportunity" since he was clever enough to get hold of the open contract for the title match, which Danny Davis had decreed that anyone except Bradley could sign. Bradley states that he pinned OUR OVW Champion Jamin Olivencia in a non-title match last week, so HE should be the number one contender! The two bicker until Olivencia walks up and says since both Bradley and Godderz think they can beat him, he suggests a 3-way non-title match for later .
Heidi Lovelace comes down the hall with a smile on her face and walks over to Taeler, who has a cupcake for her. Taeler then tells Heidi that OUR OVW Ladies Champion Trina Thompson has been spreading stuff about "Teidi". Heidi thought Trina was her friend and leaves to confront Trina bout this.
OUR OVW TV Champion Randy Royal is chatting with Tony Gunn. Royal says he didn't mean to throw Dylan Bostic over the top rope last week. Gunn wonders if Royal is taking care of his considerable medical bills with his money, to which Royal answers that he bought a Bowflex (on six installments, no less!) so they don't have to go to the gym anymore! Royal asks Gunn if they are still on the same team, to which Gunn agrees then they fistbump.
Back to the announce table where Titus is chatting with someone on the phone while Dean and Gilbert attempt to discuss upcoming events. The lights go out. They come back on to see a masked guy wearing a suit and tie in the ring clotheslining some smaller guy in a green t-shirt. Then we go to break.
Match #2: Epiphany (w/"The Teflon Don from Boca Raton" Eddie Diamond & Timmy "Rampage" Danger) vs OUR OVW Ladies Champion Trina Thompson
Epiphany grabs Trina in a headlock and takes her down to the mat while Dean and Gilbert refresh Titus on journalism tips since the big interview is next. Gilbert then notes that Trina has really come into her own during this go-round in OVW and could become the most powerful woman in the locker room! Epiphany suplexes Trina then powerslams her for 2 then whips her across and splashes her. Epiphany misses a second splash and Trina throws some forearms until she gets hit with a kneelift. Epiphany sets up for another suplex but Trina slips out, spins around and DDTs her for the pin.
Trina makes it to the back only to be confronted by Heidi. Trina says she didn't say anything bad about "Teidi" and thought she and Heidi were cool. Heidi challenges Trina to a title match at SNS, which Trina accepts. Trina says she is a fighting champion and it will be a pleasure defending her belt and taking Heidi down. Taeler and Nikki are peeking around a door and snickering.
Titus is in the ring and he says it is an honor to interview his next guests: Michael (not PS) Hayes and Mohamed Ali Vaez! Gilbert notes that from the summer of 2011 until early 2012, Hayes & Ali has one of the most intense rivalries ever in OVW. Titus asks Hayes why he chose Ali as a partner to take on Crimson and Wayne at SNS. Hayes says that Ali is an EIGHT time OVW TV Champion, not many boys in the back could put the boots to him like Ali did, and Ali showed him how to be a professional wrestler. He also says that when Ms. Josette Bynum was running the company last summer and tried to make Ali give up the TV title, Ali refused and stood up for OVW instead. Titus then turns to Ali, who says he had a lot of time to think during his "vacation" about things that really mattered. He says his parents came to America for a better life and for their children to do whatever they desired. He felt so strongly about this country that age 18, he decided to join the Army and went to West Point where he learned to be a man of character and honor. He then says that true heroes don't cry about the sacrifices they have to make in the line of duty.
He adds that lately the Coalition has been using sacrifices to justify their actions and that is wrong. That is why he accepted Hayes' offer! Out comes Joe Coleman, Shiloh Jonze, Raul Lamotta, and Ghillie-Man(a/k/a Spanish Moss Guy) to attack Hayes and Ali. Titus returns to the desk and admits that the phone call earlier was to the Coalition! Ali and Hayes clear the ring and chase the quartet out of the building.
Match #3: Paredyse vs OUR OVW TV Champion "Triple R Superstar" Randy Royal (w/Tony Gunn)
Royal opens with kicks and kneelifts as Dean says his respect for Ali has grown after the interview. Paredyse hits a belly to back suplex then stomps on Royal in the corner. Gilbert brings up Gunn's concerns over Royal's spending habits but Titus insists that Royal his just living his life to the fullest. Paredyse targets Royal's ankle for a bit then gives him a bronco buster and covers him for 2. Royal comes off the ropes and thrice has Paredyse in a pinning predicament but can't get the three. Royal flapjacks Paredyse, who then rolls to the corner and lowblows Royal. Paredyse stomps Royal in the corner then charges at him but Royal gets his boot up and it just happens to connect with Paredyse's groinular region. Royal covers Paredyse for the pin.
Gunn is distressed about Royal's methods but is interrupted as Rockstar Spud comes out. Spud sarcastically congratulates Royal on his successful title defenses. Spud then informs Royal that at SNS, Royal will be defending the TV title against him! Spud then warns Gunn to stay out of their rematch!
Match #4: "Team Boomstick" Jay Bradley vs "Mr. PEC-tacular" Jessie Godderz vs OUR OVW Champion Jamin Olivencia
Gilbert questions Jamin's thinking on wanting this non-title match right before he defends against Godderz at SNS. Godderz tries to be buddies with Bradley but just gets shoved aside. Godderz waits until Bradley and Jamin lock up then kicks Bradley in the knee and locks up with Jamin himself. Bradley comes after Godderz, who bails out and waits for Jamin to get whipped into the ropes so he can trip Jamin up. Jamin slugs Godderz then all three are briefly back in the ring until Bradley chases Godderz, who again bails out. Bradley works over Jamin while Godderz loiters outside the ring. Titus opines that this match is irrelevant for Godderz, who sneaks back in to get whipped into Bradley before Jamin comes off the top and missile dropkicks both. Godderz slides out and Jamin tries to pull him back in as we go to break.
Back from break, a clip gets shown of Jamin diving out onto Godderz but Bradley follows and hammers Jamin from behind. Back in, Bradley clamps on a sleeper as Godderz struggles to make it back to the apron. Jamin gets free and Godderz makes back into the ring but Bradley chucks Godderz back out and reapplies the sleeper on Jamin. Bradley is able to get like 2 2/3 armdrops but Jamin twists out of the hold. Godderz comes in to dropkick Bradley and grabs his own sleeper on Jamin, who is eventually able to get to his feet and squash Godderz in the corner. Bradley sets up for the Boomstick but Jamin catches him in a bodyscissors rollup for 2. Bradley suplexes Jamin for 2 and sets up the Boomstick for Godderz but Godderz catches and slams him for 2. Jamin starts a drop toehold but can't take Bradley down until Godderz bulldogs him. Godderz then hits a neckbreaker on Jamin for the pin.
Hayes and Ali come back to the ring with the four Coalition members from earlier appearing to be all beaten up. Ali neckbreakers Ghillie-Man and each of the four is flopped down in a corner. Hayes says their trap didn't work this time and calls out the Generals! Through the crowd come Crimson and Wayne with a cargo net, which they throw over Hayes and Ali. The others join in for a six on two beatdown! Crimson (still wearing a gas mask as is Wayne) steps out to grab a chair, which he uses to hit Hayes in the ribs. Wayne uses the steel rod to choke Ali then hits Hayes in the face with it. Both Ali and Hayes get handcuffed as the show goes off.
THOUGHTS: The focus here was to set up for SNS and they succeeded in setting the top four matches for the evening (Hayes/Ali-Generals, Trina/Heidi, Royal/Spud, and Olivencia/Godderz) with all having the potential for shenanigans from non-participants. Interview segment was good even if it clearly was a setup. We seem to know what direction "Teidi" is headed in. Does Royal finally turn on Gunn (or could it be the other way around)? Why didn't anyone come out to help Hayes and Ali? Anyway, this show pretty much served its purpose, so I'll give it an upper thumbs in the middle.
EXTRA BONUS THOUGHTS: This past Saturday, I made the two hour trip from Nashville to see OVW's live event in Elizabethtown, KY, where they run monthly. Trailer Park Trash wore many hats here including supervising the cage building and acting as the evening's authority figure. He even took my $8 admission at the door. The event was held in a community center that was clean and appeared to be in good repair. There was a large merchandise area with lots of pictures and other stuff for sales. Lei'd Tapa had the most pictures out on the tables. Although Rob Terry did not wrestle on the show, he did come out to the tables during intermission as did Rockstar Spud and the Baxter Brothers. Jamin Olivencia took pictures in the ring and I took advantage of this offer although I had somehow assumed that these would be Polaroids until Gilbert Corsey asked me for my camera:) The show moved along very well, running about 2 hours and fifteen minutes with two intermissions (the second was to build the cage for the main event). I liked that they set up a few matches for the next show in Elizabethtown on 6/29 (Baxters vs Jay Bradley, Paredyse vs Adam Revolver, Spud vs Cliff Compton in a strap match, and Michael Hayes & Mohamed Ali Vaez against two Coalition members) and it was evident they had set matches up for this show during last month's show. The crowd seemed to have a lot of regulars in it and they enjoyed themselves. I didn't notice if there any security around but it wasn't needed. I would have liked to have seen a little bit more card information on the website (didn't know how much admission was until I got there and I would have made a few signs too). I also would have like to have seen some female talent come and sign or take pictures (I would have paid $10 for a picture with the Blossom Twins!). Overall it was a rather pleasant experience and I would do it again sometime, although my next goal is to make a trip to Davis Arena.
