Penn off 7/2 show
B.J. Penn has pulled out of the 7/2 show in Las Vegas due to a shoulder injury. Penn had no opponent since Jon Fitch pulled out of the show, also due to a shoulder injury. UFC officials were aware at the time of the Fitch injury that Penn had an injury that needed to be examined and it was not a certainty whether or not he'd fight, which is why no replacement was lined up.
Whether Penn vs. Fitch is rematched later in the year likely depends on the timing of when each man recovers. Penn has estimated taking six to eight weeks off. Fitch has no estimated time because it depends on whether or not he will need surgery.
