Notes from the weigh-ins before a hot crowd at the Toyota Center in Houston:
Facebook fights at 6 p.m. Eastern
Mike Massenzio (185) vs. Steve Cantwell (186) - Both physically looked in great shape
Eric Schafer (185.5) vs. Aaron Simpson (186)
Darren Elkins (145) vs. Tiequan Zhang (146) - Took Zhang stripping to make weight. Zhang is better known as The Mongolian Wolf.
Joey Beltran (245) vs. Stipe Miocic (236) - Miocic physically looked in better condition. A lot of people have looked forward to his debut, a wrestler with knockout power and Beltran is a slugfest kind of heavyweight
Live on Spike at 8 p.m.
Jeremy Stephens (156) vs. Anthony Pettis (154.4) - Crowd very hot for this one, anticipating a good fight. Pettis got one of the biggest reactions, arguably the biggest.
Demian Maia (185) vs. Jorge Santiago (185)
Live on PPV at 9 p.m.
Melvin Guillard (155.5) vs. Joe Lauzon (155.5) - Guillard got a big reaction.
Leonard Garcia (145) vs. Nam Phan (145) - People were into this match, particularly Garcia
Brian Stann (186) vs. Chael Sonnen (185.5) - Easily the biggest reaction to any match on the show, more Sonnen (heavily booed) than Stann. Stann needed two tries to make weight and had to get naked to make it. He was not happy he didn't make it on the first try. Sonnen physically looked a lot bigger than he has in the past, and bigger than Stann.
Jose Aldo Jr. (145) vs. Kenny Florian (145) for the featherweight title. Florian looked in much better condition, less drawn, than when he weighed 145 the last time. Aldo Jr., more than anyone, ran to the scale, rushed through it and couldn't wait to start drinking.
Frankie Edgar (155) vs. Gray Maynard for the lightweight title. Crowd was into this second behind Stann vs. Sonnen, but booed both guys individually. Maynard lost so much weight to get to 155 he almost didn't look like Gray Maynard. Edgar, with an easy cut, looked the same and happy. Even when Edgar tried to get the easy pop by mentioning H-Town, he got booed, and talked about going on an anti-bullying movement (since Maynard's nickname is "The Bully").
