WWE Main Event TV report
By Chris Aiken
Airdate: June 26, 2013
WWE Main Event from Columbia, SC opened with the entrance of Chris Jericho followed by Cody Rhodes. Josh Matthews and Miz provided commentary at ringside and, after the introductions, it was bell time.
Chris Jericho beat Cody Rhodes via submission. After some early exchanges like headlocks, a shoulder tackle and a drop kick by Jericho, Rhodes was sent to the outside where he got kicked through the ropes by Jericho. Back in the ring, Jericho had the advantage until Rhodes fights back by using an eye poke. The announcers really sell the poking of the eye and put it over as a disadvantage for Jericho. When Jericho begins to make a comeback, he gets rammed shoulder first into the ring post and Rhodes begins to get heat on him. Jericho fights back but Rhodes hits a moonsault off the top rope for a nearfall. Moments later after making a comeback, Jericho hits an ax handle off the top. Jericho also used a flying cross body off the top and moments later Rhodes used a disaster kick. Rhodes blocked the Boston crab and later gave Jericho an Alabama slam. Jericho went for a lionsault and landed on his feet as Rhodes rolled out of the way before Rhodes hit the code breaker for a nearfall. Seconds afterwards, Jericho hit the code breaker for a nearfall. Rhodes kicked at the injured eye but Jericho blocked a kick and applied the Walls of Jericho (Boston crab) for the submission.
The ad featuring Kane stalking Halle Berry that plugs The Call is airing once again. Also, a video package aired hyping the return of Rob Van Dam.
Afterwards, Zeb Colter and his new charge, Antonio Cesaro, came out for a promo from the entrance ramp. Colter said he rarely hears English anymore and he told the people that do not speak English to leave. He did not say where to go, just to leave. Cesaro cut a promo saying he has pride, he immigrated to the U.S. the proper way and called his methods part of the American way and Cesaro also said he was living the real American Dream. Likewise, Colter said he wanted his country back and "we the people" would apparently accomplish that.
Christian beat US Champion Deam Ambrose via DQ in a non-title match. Before the match, a replay aired of The Shield attacking Christian and giving him the triple power bomb. Ambrose leaves the ring at the outset and Christian follows him outside but gets caught getting back in the ring. Ambrose begins to work over Christian but he fights back and tosses Ambrose outside the ring only for Christian to get clotheslined on the floor. Ambrose begins to get heat on Christian until he makes a comeback and uses a springboard sunset flip off the second rope for a nearfall. Christian went to the top rope then Seth Rollins runs in joined by Roman Reigns. Rollins shoves Christian off the top for the DQ finish and The Shield jumps Chrisitan. The Usos quickly run in to make the save and The Shield flee the scene. Later in the show, a six man tag team match was announced stemming from the run-in.
The "Raw Rebound" segment featured drama between CM Punk and Paul Heyman. In addition, Miz vowed to gain new information on the subject when he interviews Heyman on MizTV for Smackdown. Announced for Raw next Monday is a tag team match with Punk and Curtis Axel vs. Prime Time Players.
Prime Time Players beat Tons of Funk via pinfall. Before the match, the Funkadactyls (Naomi and Cameron) introduce new WWE diva JoJo. She sang the Tons of Funk entrance theme and the entire entourage danced. JoJo is apparently on the new Total Divas reality show. Still, this felt awkward. Brodus Clay and Tensei had the advantage early on but Titus O'Neal and Darren Young took over and the match (somewhat) showcased them to build for their match on Raw. Brodus Clay was mounting a comeback when Young nailed him with a punch from outside the ring as Clay missed a charge in the corner. O'Neil covered Clay for the pin as Young held down Clay's leg so he could not kick out.
