WWE NXT TV report: Sami Zayn vs. Leo Kruger, Wyatt Family, more
By Emerson Witner |
Here's what you need to know about this week's NXT:The brackets for the Woman's Title Tournament are as follows:
- Paige defeated Tamina on 6/6
- Alicia Fox defeated Bayley on 6/13
- Summer Rae defeated Sasha Banks on 6/20
- Emma defeated Aksana on 6/27
- Paige defeated Tamina on 7/4
- The NXT Champion is Bo Dallas. He defeated Big E. Langston on June 13 and teased a heel turn back on May 16, but it hasn't been mentioned since.
- They also have Tag Team Champions, The Wyatt Family (Erick Rowan and Luke Harper, managed by Bray Wyatt). They captured the titles on May 9, defeating Bo Dallas and Adrian Neville
-The Family's top contenders are the mish mash team of Kassius Ohno and Corey Graves, who are now 1-1 as a team after winning a #1 Contender's Match over a team that was 2-0.
- Dusty Rhodes is the Authority Figure, but his job title seems to change from week to week.
- Sami Zayn, the former El Generico, is in the midst of a feud with Antonio Cesaro, which I am sure you are surprised to hear has led to good matches.
- The announce team is constantly rotating with some combination of Tony Dawson, William Regal, Brad Maddox and Tom Phillips
And that's everything you need to know about NXT. (Now we know!) (And knowing is half the battle) (G.I. Joe!) The announce team tonight is the competent Tom Phillips and the new General Manager of Raw: Brad Maddox.
In a semi-final match in the NXT Woman's Championship Tournament, Emma defeated Summer Rae.
The winner of this will face Paige in two weeks in the finals of the NXT Woman's Championship Tournament. I refuse to Fandango, I would rather do the Emma dance! Summer slapped on a very long armbar early on in the match. How long was it? Long enough that I could switch out my laundry, come back and Emma was just getting out of it. The finish came out of nowhere as Emma and Summer reversed a few reversals, doing their best Eddie Guerrero-Dean Malenko impression, but this time Emma actually got the win.
After the match Summer attacked Emma, but Paige made the save.
Backstage, Bayley is marking out over Dusty Rhodes. She is pulling a Bret Hart, talking about being in The NXT and The WWE. In walked Ric Fucking Flair and his daughter Charlotte. Bayley volunteered to wrestle Charlotte next week. Ric said a total of 7 words in the entire segment, four of which being Wooo.Leo Kruger submitted Sami Zayn
The Not-so-generic French Canadian is back. The fans do the Ole chant at Sami, which Brad Maddox says that this shows the fans are idiots. These two men got involved in last weeks Bo Dallas-Antonio Cesaro NXT Title match, so that means one of these two men could be the next #1 Contender to Losing To Bo. The highlight of the first half of the match was Sami going for a Suicide dive through the ropes and Kruger caught him with a forearm to the head. Kruger almost had the match won with the most beautiful spine buster you will see from someone whose last name isn't Anderson. Leo misses the Bret Hart elbow from the middle rope, which leads to Sami making his comeback. Sami went for the Ole Kick, but Leo knocked his head off with a knee to the head. Leo screwed Zayn's head back on and then slapped on an arm breaker, but Sami reached the ropes. The finish saw Leo hit a superplex with both men standing on the top rope, an armbar DDT and picking up the submission win with the Over The Top Hammerlock that he does.
To the back where Renee Young is interviewing Adrian Neville, Corey Graves and William Regal about their 6-man tag tonight with The Family. Next week Graves and Neville have a tag team title match that was earned by Ohno and Graves. But, hey, who needs logic. In a 2-on-1 Handicap Match, Enzo Amore and Colin Cassidy beat Mason Ryan.
Last week Ryan and Amore predicted the Chris Weidman-Anderson Silva fight. Also Ryan beat them both in a combined 30 seconds. Let's get the clock going for this one. These matches were so much better last week. We actually got an awesome false finish where Mason picked up Enzo for a slam and Colin kicked his head off, but it was for only a 2.999999999999999999. Holy shit....Mason picked up Colin for a slam, Enzo chop blocked him and actually won in 1:25
NXT Commissioner Dusty Rhodes made a #1 Contender's Triple Threat Match for next week with Antonio Cesaro, Leo Kruger and Sami Zayn. Well that should be good if nothing else.
The Family defeated William Regal, Corey Graves and Adrian Neville.
Main Event time! No, I don't mean this match is airing Wednesday's at 8 on Ion. The last time we saw William wrestle on NXT it was that awesome match right after WrestleMania with Kassius Ohno. When the segment began, there were 16 minutes of tv time left. When the match started, we were down to 11 minutes. It takes a long time to walk down that ramp, huh? The Shield walked through Met Life Stadium quicker. William does The Greatest Spot Ever, where he back kicks his opponent on the mat while the referee tells him off about something. The Family finally gets The Heat on Adrian by using shenanigans behind the referee's back. As much as I love Brad Maddox, but he is a really bad announcer. Not Mike Adamle bad, but bad enough. Only in wrestling is being bad at one job get you a promotion. Like when Teddy Long was a shitty referee and manager, so he was made SmackDown GM. Adrian finally makes the hot tag to William and a Pier 6 brawl breaks out. The finish saw Bray Wyatt get back on the apron, tag himself in and pin William with Sister Abigail.
That does it for this week. We had a fun singles match and a fun main event. Plus we saw Ric Flair speak! Sort of.The Highlight Of The Show:
