WWE NXT TV Report: Dallas & Zayn vs Kruger & Cesaro, The Shield Returns
Monday, 05 August 2013 13:39
Cheap Plug: It's not Superstars and he may not be drunk, but my old friend Adam Barnowski is back! He is taking a look at every five star match in the history of wrestling. This week, you can read about The Funk Brothers vs Steve Williams & Terry Gordy
.If you're not familiar, here's what you need to know about NXT:
And now, to this week's show....
- The NXT Champion is Bo Dallas. He defeated Big E. Langston on June 13 and teased a heel turn back on May 16, but it hasn't been mentioned since.
- The #1 contender is Leo Kruger, earning the slot in a three way win over Antonio Cesaro and Sami Zayn on July 18.
- Tag Champs Corey Graves and Adrian Neville won the belts by defeatingThe Family on July 18. Neville had previously been champions with Oliver Grey, but Grey was injured by The Family. Graves and Kassius Ohno were #1 contenders to the titles, but The Family injured Ohno.
- Newly crowned is Paige as the first ever Woman's Champion. She captured the belt on July 25, defeating Emma in the finals of a grueling tournament, which was not held in Rio De Janero.
- Dusty Rhodes is the authority figure, but his job title seems to change from week to week.
- Sami Zayn, the former El Generico, is in the midst of a feud with Antonio Cesaro, which I am sure you are surprised to hear has led to good matches.
- The announce team is constantly rotating with some combination of Tony Dawson, William Regal, Brad Maddox and Tom Phillips.
The show opens with Enzo Amore and Colin Cassidy walking to the ring. The last time they wrestled going against a UFC pay per view was when Enzo and Mason Ryan previewed the Anderson Silva-Chris Weidman finish. Enzo and Colin said they are undefeated as a team. By my count, they are 1-0. In the interest of fairness, that is undefeated.
Brodus and Tensai came out to wrestle Colin and Enzo, but the heels try walking away. Mason Ryan came out to stop them from leaving. Clay and Sweet T beat up their dastardly foes, but the bell never rang and it ended up with Tons of Funk and Mason Ryan dancing. I really hope that this is how Jose Aldo vs Korean Zombie ends tonight.
To the back where Dusty Rhodes talks to Emma and Paige about their match last week. In walked Summer Rae, who is angry that she is not champion. Paige threatened to break her face. That's not nice. Emma made fun of Fandangoing, which ticked off Summer. This somehow led to a dance battle between Summer and Emma being scheduled for next week. Paige told Summer to shut up and was tired of these off-beat shenanigans.
Charlotte (from Charlotte) beat The Love Of My Life, Sasha Banks.
I love this girl. Too bad she can't win a match to save her life. The crowd was dead for this match. It reminded me of that one TNA ppv with Kurt Angle, Sting and Mr. Anderson in a 3-way main event and the crowd responded by falling asleep. Charlotte gets the fans to do something by chopping at my woman. Sasha slapped on the Camel Clutch. This would have been unbreakable, but the poor girl let it go to go for a pin. Charlotte won with the flipping neck breaker.
Renee Young interviewed Tyler Breeze backstage, but Someone With Dreadlocks stole the attention of the camera by doing goofy stuff behind Tyler. Tyler put himself over or something.
A Wyatt Family video aired. They are selling those masks now on WWEShop.com.
That commercial where John Cena buys 10,000 of his own t-shirts off WWE.com aired. I know that free shipping rules, but that may be a smidge too many. The Wyatt Family beat Aiden English & Mickey Keegan
Now that they are on Raw, The Family gets a superstar reaction by the people, which is what has happened to almost everyone who has gotten called up and then returned. The only person that didn't really work for was Langston, who was far more over as a babyface on NXT before he got called up. The match was over in 30 seconds. Keegan got thrown to the outside and Rowan and Harper beat English with a clothesline and big splash. After the match, Bray dropped Aiden with Sister Abigail. The fans chanted “one more time”, so Bray told them to calm down so he could cut his promo. Bray told us to tell the world leaders to beware and that he is going to bring down the machine. The fans were so ready for a new machine that they chanted “Bring it down”.
Backstage, Adrian Neville told Corey Graves that he will be in his corner for his match with Scott Dawson tonight. Corey said he is not afraid of The Family attacking.
Sylvester Lafort walks out and talks about when he things of money, he thinks of Scott Dawson. That makes one of us.
NXT Tag Team Champion Corey Graves (w/Adrian Neville) beat Scott Dawson (w/Sylvester Lefort)
There is really nothing to say about this match. Dawson got a minute of offense, Graves speared Dawson's knee and tapped him out with Lucky 13.
After the match, we get our third appearance by actual WWE Superstars as The Shield is in the house! The fans go batty as the WWE Tag Team Champions Rollins & Reigns, along with Dean Ambrose, make mention that the last time they were on NXT they laid out Graves. Graves and Neville challenged them to come fight. Ambrose pointed out what I pointed out 24 paragraphs ago that Neville is only champion because he took Kassius Ohno's spot.
Ambrose challenged Neville to a match. Neville said he would only accept the challenge if it was for the US Title. Ambrose accepted the challenge, but said they would wrestle next week. Wow, this could be the semi-main event underneath the dance battle.
Next week is FACE OFF WEEK!
- Dean Ambrose vs Adrian Neville for the US Title
- Summer Rae vs Emma in a Dance Battle
- BO Dallas vs Leo Kruger for the NXT Title
- John Travolta vs Nicholas Cage
I may have been making up one of those matches.
Before the main event, I watched Tito Ortiz's David Flair TitanTron. It is just as funny as it sounds.Leo Kruger and Antonio Cesaro beat Bo Dallas and Sami Zayn
I'm a Bo-liever. Bo-lieve in The Bo. William Regal claimed Leo vs Sami was a new match-up. I could swear they wrestled one another like a month ago. Sami got the advantage on Leo and Bo cheerfully wanted the tag. I don't think I have ever used the phrase “cheerfully wanted the tag” before. Bo had an arm bar on Cesaro and Sami wanted the tag to get after his foe, but YOUR NXT Champion was cut off before he could make the tag. The story of this match was Cesaro refused to face a fresh Sami and would only tag in when The Generic One was losing. Sami waited until we came back from a commercial break before he got in two quick shots on Cesaro until Antonio knocked him back down with a European Uppercut.
Sami is a great baby face in peril. He would come oh so close to tagging out to the unpopular NXT Champion, but the fans would be begging for the little guy to make it and would be disappointed when he would come short. Finally Bo got the tag, which sent the crowd wild for five seconds, until they realized Bo was now in the ring. Cesaro and Zayn fought to the back, leaving the champion and his challenger mid-ring. Bo hit his power slam toss thingy, but Leo rolled out of the ring and eventually hit his high stepping clothesline, The Slice, for the win!
Seven days before their championship match, Leo Kruger has pinned the champion! Can he do it next week? Will we have a new King of NXT?
