WWE NXT TV Report: Bo Dallas Invitational, Graves & Neville vs Ascension
Thursday, 03 October 2013 16:12
Allegedly this is the 189th episode of NXT, dating back to February 2010 and I have reviewed over 150 of them. Dear Lord.Santino Marella & Emma defeated Fandango & Summer Rae
Johnny Curtis returns to NXT for the first time since he became a dancer. The last time he was on the show was teaming with Michael McGillicutty of all people to challenge for the NXT Tag Team Championship.
Tony Dawson is sadly here this week. Alex Riley shows how much he watches the show by asking when did Summer Rae start calling herself the First Lady of NXT. Dawson shows how much he watches the show by saying the last time Summer was on the show, she poured bubble solution in Emma's eyes.
Emma announces Santino as her partner for this match. When I saw Santino's picture on Hulu, I was worried that he would accept the Bo Dallas Invitational. Emma and Santino do each others dance to the ring as Renee Young joins the broadcast table. The fans chant “This is awesome” before the match even begins. This match was pretty much all comedy through the first break, which admittedly makes the match much better.
We come back from commercial and Fandango seemed to get the heat with a punch to the face, but Santino made his comeback and made an inadvertent hot tag to Emma, which is like back when Mean Gene was tagged into a match with him and Hulk Hogan vs George Steele and Mr. Fuji.
Santino and Emma high five each other over and over again, causing a series of tags. Fandango didn't approve of these off beat shenanigans and punched Santino in the face. I thought it was Emma that trained with Lance Storm. The announcing broke down to a discussion over whether or not Renee and Fandango were doing anything on the side. In the ring Fandango kept going for his top rope leg drop, but Santino kept rolling away.
After 5 attempts, Santino kipped up and made the hot tag to Emma, who was able to lock on the Dil-Emma. Santino handed Emma the Cobra, but before we got a strike, we had a cat fight spot. Somehow Fandango was flipped into the ring and fell onto Emma. Finally Emma hands the Cobra back to Santino who uses it and picks up the win.
Backstage, Ascension bragged about winning Tag Team Turmoil and said they will win the tag team championship tonight.Luke Harper pinned Kassius Ohno
The last time we saw Kassius Ohno, he was co-#1 contender to the NXT tag title, so The Family took him out and Adrian Neville got the tag team titles instead. Ohno trimmed his beard and put his hair in a ponytail. Other than that he looks exactly the same.
Harper is the only member of the Family who came out at the start. So has Bray and Rowan left Harper to do their dirty work? This is supposed to be a grudge match, but Harper seems more intense for this match than Ohno...and promptly won with a clothesline. Huh.
Backstage, Enzo Amore and Colin Cassidy vow to become champion s again and that The French Legionnaire are going to get their teeth knocked down their throats.
A video package aired where Mojo Rawley talked about hype. The Ascension defeated NXT Tag Team Champions Corey Graves & Adrian Neville to win the championship.
Out of the original five seasons of NXT, the only men to win championships were Wade Barrett, Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel, David Otunga, Michael McGillicutty, Daniel Bryan, Kaitlyn and AJ. Will Conor O'Brien not only join the list, but become the first person from either Season 4 or 5 to win a championship?
Both babyfaces are quickly cut off, with neither man getting any offense in. Four minutes into this match, Riley said that Ascension has been working on Graves' ribs for over ten minutes. Maybe there was a backstage beat down we are unaware of that only Alex witnessed.
After a very long heat segment, Graves made the hot tag to Neville. Adrian single handedly took out both men, reminding us of six months ago when he was the can't miss high flyer that Sami Zayn eventually got the spot of. Neville went for Red Arrow, but Conor sort of pulled Victor out of the way. Victor had to not sell that that Neville drove his knees into the rib.
Graves tagged himself in and Ascension became the fourth ever tag team champions by Total Elimination! The kings are dead, long live the new kings of the NXT Tag Team division!
Rob Van Dam is on NXT next week. Okay then. They used the same video package they used to build his appearance at Money in the Bank.
YOUR NXT Champion came out next for the Bo Dallas Invitational, open to anyone not named Sami Zayn. Bo sounds like he is fighting a cold. If the challenger beats him tonight, then he gets a title shot in 2 weeks. In the Bo Dallas Invitational, NXT Champion Bo Dallas pinned This Guy
The fans chanted “Let's Go This Guy” and the bastard love child of Kenny Dykstra and Danny Doring got a near fall with a school boy. The fans wouldn't stop chanting for “This Guy” and since we never got a name for him, that works just as well. Bo won with a Spear.
After the match, Bo brags that he didn't break a sweat and there has to be someone else who wants a chance. Out came Leo Kruger. Well, he actually has a name.
Antonio Cesaro followed right behind Leo, wanting a title match. Antonio and Leo argue over who gets to wrestle Bo. The fans chant “Triple Threat” and Cesaro turns to walk away BEFORE BLINDSIDING LEO!
Cesaro and Leo fought each other over who got to fight Bo. Cesaro threw Leo over the top rope, which led to Bo taking him out with a running knee.
Down came El Local to accept the Bo Dallas Invitational. In the Bo Dallas Invitational, El Local pinned NXT Champion Bo Dallas.
The match went 10 seconds and Local won with a Yakuza Kick. Riley and Dawson acted like they never saw Local before, despite him wrestling weekly. Of course it was obvious who it was, especially with the fans chanting “Ole!”...it must be Fernando or Diego of Los Matadores!
No way! It was Sami Zayn! What a shock! So in two weeks, Zayn challenges Bo for the NXT Title and Bo is in disbelief. Good night from Orlando.
