WWE Monday Night Raw

January 20, 2014
Dayton, Ohio

Noteworthy: Dave Batista returned to WWE, giving verbal notice to Randy Orton and physical notice to Alberto Del Rio. Big Show and Brock Lesnar had another confrontation in their road to Royal Rumble. Randy Orton had to be given another pep talk from Triple H just to do his job. Daniel Bryan showed no signs of injury in attacking Bray Wyatt. The Royal Rumble is Sunday, and CM Punk appears to be the guy going really long in the Rumble match.

Commentary: Michael Cole, JBL, and Jerry Lawler

Dave Batista Returns to WWE
Tonight's episode began with the Authority in the ring, set to introduce the returning Batista. Randy Orton, however, interrupted the introduction as he stormed to the ring and confronted Triple H and Stephanie. Orton was upset, but the Authority turned the tables and bashed Orton for losing last week and attacking John Cena's father, all while getting a plug in for the WWE Network. Stephanie said it is a new era of authority, and if Orton couldn't handle the authority, then he could leave WWE. Orton blamed his actions on the pressure of his rematch with Cena, as well as the returns of Brock and Batista. Triple H made a rematch of Orton vs Kofi for tonight, while also telling Orton to act like a viper and get his revenge. Triple H showed Orton that he has put a camera on the one entrance into the building, all to view when John Cena shows up. He pressured Orton into making things right, intimating that Orton attack Cena when he appears.

And now, Batista's music hit. Batista, clad in awesome, returned as Stephanie and Triple H applauded for him. Batista milked a reaction out of the crowd for several moments until his music stopped while he was still on the top rope posing. After a hug from Steph and Hunter, the authority left, leaving Batista and Orton alone in the ring. Breathing heavily, Batista said he is back for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. So deal with it!

Billy Gunn & Jesse James vs Cody Rhodes & Goldust for the WWE Tag Team Championships will be the Royal Rumble Kickoff match this Sunday.

HBK, Jim Duggan, and Ric Flair will be the panel for the Royal Rumble kickoff.

The Shield vs Big E & Goldust & Cody Rhodes
Seth Rollins pinned Big E Langston with a jumping curb stomp. Roman hit Cody with a superman punch while Cody went for the disaster kick, which was a cool looking moment. Shield was strong, all while the commentary team pushed that it will be friend vs friend at Royal Rumble.

We got a replay of Daniel Bryan's attack on Bray Wyatt to close out Raw last week.

35 Days until the WWE Network debuts.

Daniel Bryan Had A Plan
Daniel Bryan came to the ring, leading the Dayton crowd in some fun "Yes!" chants. His first line was "...and some people say I shouldn't be the face of this company!" Bryan said that he joined the Wyatt's with a plan, to take down Bray physically and mentally. He sacrificed the time with the Wyatt's to get Bray one on one, and when the moment came, he took it. Bryan exposed Bray Wyatt, and at the Royal Rumble, it will be Bray vs Bryan one on one. As Bryan was chanting, the lights went out and Bray Wyatt appeared on the TRON. Bray called Bryan a traitor and a coward. He claimed Bryan has flown right back into society's cage. He closed by saying that everything that happens to Bryan from now on will be Bryan's fault.

FANDANGO defeated Xavier Woods with the top rope leg drop. #EMMAtaining was in the crowd dancing along to FANDANGO's theme.

Backstage, Brad Maddox called Batista's return the biggest return ever on RAW. Stephanie McMahon came in and lashed out at Kane for attacking CM Punk on Smackdown. She told him to apologize tonight.

Kane Apologizes to CM Punk; Punk vs Gunn
Kane came out and called out CM Punk. Kane apologized to Punk for his actions on Smackdown, which Punk made him do twice to rub it in. As the crowd begged for a third time, Punk said it was cool, and he attacked Kane. He sent Kane packing when Brad Maddox came out and made a match between CM Punk and one of the New Age Outlaws. As they made their way to the ring, Road Dogg and Billy played Rock, Paper, Scissors for the right to face Punk. Gunn won with scissors over paper, so we had our match. James stayed for commentary.

CM Punk defeated Billy Gunn with the GTS. Road Dogg never interfered himself, but Punk went and attacked him during the match while he had Gunn taken out.

After the match, Kane made CM Punk the #1 entrant into the Royal Rumble match.

Backstage, Brock Lesnar & Paul Heyman entered the building.

A Tribute to Mae Young aired.

Alberto Del Rio vs Rey Mysterio
Del Rio tapped Mysterio with the cross armbreaker. The two had a long match with many close nearfalls, a few of which were very believable. Mysterio hit the 619 and Drop The Dime, but Del Rio grabbed the ropes when many thought this would be the finish. Del Rio worked Rey's arm and shoulder, which lead to the finishing arm breaker.

While Del Rio was in the ring, Batista came back out and gave him a Batista Bomb.

Big Show Calls Out Brock Lesnar
Big Show came out and mocked Paul Heyman for a minute before calling out Brock Lesnar. At first, Paul Heyman came out alone, but before speaking, Lesnar's music hit and the two walked to the ring. After milking the walk to the ring, the two turned around and went all the way backstage. Show grabbed a mic again and told Lesnar to drag his ass back and get in his face. This worked, as Brock and Paul came back out. Brock finally got in the ring, and went for a double leg takedown. That did not work, and Show managed to toss Brock around some more until dumping him out of the ring. Brock went nuts, grabbed a chair, threw around some commentary monitors, and more until Paul came out to calm him down. After a moment, Brock was calm, and he and Heyman walked up the ramp. Brock screamed that he'll see Show on Sunday, and Show stood ready for more of a battle.

WWE App: #BadNewsBarrett said AJ Lee is universally loathed by every Superstar and Diva in WWE. AJ, celebrating her record Diva title reign, accidentally threw cake on Tamina in a rage from Barrett's bad news.

AJ Lee & Tamina vs Cameron & Naomi
Naomi pinned AJ Lee. AJ was skipping around a downed Naomi after tagging in, but when she went to pick Naomi up, Naomi grabbed her into a rollup for the win.

Luke Harper & Erick Rowan vs The Usos
The Usos won with a rollup pin on Luke Harper. These two teams wrestled for a long time before Bray Wyatt, at ringside in his chair, got up and started speaking over the house mic. As Harper was beating up an Uso, he said that this is the punishment that awaits Daniel Bryan. Bray chuckled a bit and sat back down. Promptly, the Usos regained control. As the teams continued, Bray got up again and was shouting instructions at his men. Daniel Bryan ran down and attacked Bray. With the chaos, and Harper being distracted, an Uso was able to rollup Luke for the win.

Kofi Kingston vs Randy Orton
Orton beat Kofi via DQ.

John Cena, showing up super late, arrived to the building and ran down to the ring during the match. He attacked Randy Orton, causing a DQ loss for Kofi Kingston. Kofi, having lost, was cheering Cena on in his attack. Cena and Orton brawled around ringside briefly before heading into the crowd.

The two fought all the way up the steps in the crowd until eventually getting to the top of the arena. Cena fought Randy out of a suite atop the arena. As Cena was checking to make sure a fan in the suite was okay, Orton escaped and walked out of the building. Cena followed, but Orton got into a getaway car outside. Cena was distraught, and he returned slowly back into the arena and posed for cheers atop the steps. John then walked down the steps all the way back to the ring, posing for more cheers as Michael Cole did his final sell job for Royal Rumble.
