As it turned out, the scoring was not only announced wrong for the Demetrious Johnson/Ian McCall flyweight tournament match at UFC on FX 2, but the first reports were wrong. It was actually a draw because two judges had it even.
We've gotten many conflicting stories on the cards, but this is what the actual cards were:
Sal D'Amato had a draw, read incorrectly on the air as Johnson winning.
Kon Papai had Johnson winning, read correctly.
Anthony Dimitriou had a draw, also read incorrectly on the air as McCall winning.
Based on that, the fight should have gone to a fourth round. The Australian commission admitted they screwed up in adding, although after Bruce Buffer announced scores that would make it a split decision, he called it a majority decision, which implied two judges for Johnson and one even.
It wasn't until the press conference when they found out about the 10-8 round on the D'Amato scorecard, meaning two judges had it even.
McCall vs. Johnson are going to have a rematch in a few months, with UFC looking at doing it in April if both men are okay with it. Neither appeared to be seriously hurt in the fight. Dana White was furious about how this all went down, as you can imagine.
