UFC On Fuel Alexander Gustafsson vs. Thiago Silva: Wrestling Observer Staff Picks Results

UFC On Fuel 2Compiled by Josh Nason

After six weeks of vacation, the UFC returned to action Saturday afternoon for UFC on Fuel 2, marking the organization's debut in Sweden and the resuming of the Wrestling Observer MMA staff picks.

Because of a non-existent internet connection, this wasn't posted in time for the event today so we're changing things up this week and showing you how people did after the fact.

With next Saturday's UFC 145 ppv, we'll be back on track and will have updated year-to-date records as well.

Your roundtable of awesomeness:

Dave Meltzer | Oliver Copp | Todd Martin | Mike Sawyer | Josh Nason | Mike "Mr JL" Sempervive

Alexander Gustafsson def. Thiago Silva by u/d (30-27 x2, 29-28)

Gustafsson: Nason, Copp, Meltzer, Sempervive, Martin, Sawyer

The gang all got this one right. Gustafsson (14-1) has won five straight and this was his first decision since September 2008 (nine fights).

Brian Stann def. Alessio Sakara by 1st round KO (2:26)

Stann: Nason, Copp, Meltzer, Sempervive, Martin, Sawyer

Man, we're wicked smahhhhht. Stann (12-4) looked pristine in taking apart Sakara, knocking him out cold while both were the ground. Since moving to 185, he has finishes in all four of his wins.

Siyar Bahadurzada def. Paulo Thiago by 1st round KO (:42)

Thiago: Nason, Copp, Meltzer, Sempervive, Martin, Sawyer

Well, maybe we're not that smart. In his long-awaited UFC debut, Bahadurzada (21-4-1) needed just 42 seconds to knock out Thiago, his first fight since last May due to contract issues with Strikeforce. He's now won seven in a row and earned a $50k Knockout Of The Night bonus in this one.

Dennis Siver def. Diego Nunes by u/d (29-28 x3)

Close fight and a split decision between our panel as well. This was Siver's (20-8) first fight at 145 pounds. After running up a 16-1 record, Nunes has lost two of his last three.

Siver: Copp, Meltzer, Sawyer
Nunes: Nason, Sempervive, Martin

Brad Pickett def. Damacio Page by 2nd round submission (4:05)

Pickett: Nason, Copp, Meltzer, Sawyer
Page: Sempervive, Martin

Semp and Martin found out the hard way why you don't pick against "One Punch"…even though he won by submission. Both men earned $50k for Fight Of The Night. Pickett is now 21-6, while Page has lost his last three.

Final Results:

- Meltzer: 4-1
- Martin: 2-3
- Nason: 3-2
- Copp: 4-1
- Sawyer: 4-1
- Sempervive: 2-3
