Former UFC champion dropping to new weight class



Frankie EdgarOn UFC Tonight Tuesday, it was confirmed that former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar will drop to 145 pounds. According to a post onĀ Ariel Helwani's Twitter feed, he wants to debut at featherweight by year's end. No date or opponent was named.

Edgar (14-3-1) recently lost a close split decision to current Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson that many thought he won. The 30-year-old has fought in six straight bouts where a title was on the line.

After back-to-back wins over B.J. Penn, he is 1-2-1 since 2011 in two fights each with Henderson and Gray Maynard.
