Report: Bellator 155-pound champ Eddie Alvarez out of Saturday's Bellator PPV
Saturday, 10 May 2014 08:16
Somebody doesn't want Bellator to go on PPV.
For the second time in two attempts, Bellator was hit with a late injury to the main eventer in its attempt to do a PPV. Reports are that Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez suffered a concussion in training and will be out of the 5/17 trilogy fight with Michael Chandler scheduled for next Saturday night in Southhaven, MS.
When asked at the company's show in Rama, ONT, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney denied the reports, but Sherdog and MMA Fighting have both reported the injury. Greg Savage of Sherdog reported last night that Will Brooks, who was scheduled for an undercard showcase fight against Nate Jolly, would face Chandler instead.
If that was the case, Quinton Jackson vs. King Mo Lawal would be the real main event of the show.
