MONDAY NEWS UPDATE

Bryan and I will be back tonight with Wrestling Observer Radio talking Raw, ratings, G-1 as well as taking you email questions to mailbag@wrestlingobserver.com

I wouldn't worry much about Raw ratings tonight. Besides the usual Monday Night Football game (Indianapolis Colts vs. Baltimore Ravens), there are Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Devil Rays and San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers baseball playoff games. Baseball numbers are way up and are going against almost every wrestling show for the next few weeks.

Raw is from the Chase Center in San Francisco, head-to-head with the Giants-Dodgers. The advance was weak going in and I can see some people with tickets not coming. Main event is Charlotte Flair & Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks & Bianca Belair, plus in King of the Ring, Ricochet vs. Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston vs. Jinder Mahal, and Queen's Crown has Doudrop vs. Natalya and Shayna Baszler vs. Dana Brooke. Big E & Riddle & Randy Orton vs. Bobby Lashley & A.J. Styles & Omos is the announced dark match main event.

UFC is looking at doing a Jorge Masvidal vs. Leon Edwards fight on its 12/11 PPV show. If that goes through, then the Brandon Moreno flyweight title defense against former champion Deiveson Figueiredo will be moved from that show to 1/22.  Edwards is listed as a -275 favorite.

G1 at 5:30 a.m. Eastern tomorrow morning from Sendai's Xebio Arena

  • Hiromu Takahashi vs. Ryohei Oiwa non-tournament
  • Taichi vs. Tama Tonga
  • Sanada vs. Yoshi-Hashi
  • Kazuchika Okada vs. Chase Owens
  • Hirooki Goto vs. Evil
  • Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Jeff Cobb

There will also be an A block show on Wednesday morning a 5:30 a.m.

  • Hiromu Takahashi vs. Kosei Fujita non-tournament
  • Kota Ibushi vs. Satoshi Kojima non-tournament
  • Tomohiro Ishii vs. Yujiro Takahashi
  • KENTA vs. Tanga Loa
  • Toru Yano vs Zack Sabre Jr.
  • Shingo Takagi vs. Great O'Khan

With Kazuchika Okada's match with Sanada last week he broke the Kenta Kobashi mark for 142 four-star matches with his 143rd.  He also has the most four-star singles matches with 107 (thanks to Leonard Mendez Told)

OTT from Saturday night in Dublin before about 300 fans for a 20 month break in the city. OTT runs 10/30 most likely with full capacity allowed because the restrictions on attendance end 10/22.  B Cool & Jay b Captain Sexsea & Fabulous Nicky, Paddy M b Sean Maxer Guinness, Debbie Keitel & CT Flexor b Sammy D & Lana Austin, Charlie Sterling b Justin Daniels, Session Moth Martina won three-way over Mark Haskins (former champion) and Terry Thatcher t wi the Gender Neutral championship, LJ Clearly b Adam Maxed, Will Ospreay & Aussie Open b Scotty Davis & Shota Umino & Yota Tsuji.  Main event said to be off the charts.  the show was a tribute to Ryan Smile.  Ospreay, a close friend of his, gave a speech about him and told stories of how they met and their happiest times in wrestling. He broke down many times and cried.  He was embraced by Aussie Open as he struggled his way through the speech.  He then put a Ryan Smile T-shirt in the middle of the ring and put his IWGP world heavyweight title belt over it and then left in a surreal moment.

Tickets for the 2022 Royal Rumble at the Dome in St. Louis goes on sale tomorrow with Travel Packages. Thursday is the presale and Friday is the general public onsale. This would be the biggest event on sale until WrestleMania. (thanks to William Zdon)

A quick note that Hall of Fame ballots have not been sent out yet. I've said this on some shows. It's very time consuming and my schedule is pretty brutal right now.

Although it has been known for some time, ROH officially announced this year's Final Battle for 12/11 at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore. It's the company's next show with paying spectators as they were still doing empty arena TV tapings to keep results secret.

WWE

  • Yahoo has a story on Raquel Gonzalez.
  • A huge match on the NXT UK show Thursday has Ilja Dragunov defending the U.K. title against A-Kid, which should be a classic.

AEW

  • AEW announced Heritage Night for the Rampage tapings in Miami which had very weak ticket sales as of the weekend.  If you bring your flag you get in for $10 and get a photo with Cody Rhodes.
  • Tony Khan turned 39 yesterday.

UFC

  • Sam Alvey vs. Ian Heinisch are set for a February 5 show.
