F4W NEWSLETTER: Figure Four Weekly: Looking at the WWE-EVOLVE relationship

The evolution of WWE's relationships with promotions they're friendly with continued to take shape this past weekend. Five WWE-contracted wrestlers were in action for EVOLVE last Friday and Saturday: The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford), Fabian Aichner, Kassius Ohno, and Mustafa Ali. Killian Dain made a surprise appearance for ICW in Glasgow, Scotland on Sunday, defeating Mikey Whiplash after it had been advertised that Whiplash would be facing a wrestler from WWE.

WON NEWSLETTER: November 19, 2018 Observer Newsletter: Survivor Series shake up, more

One week ago, the Survivor Series was to be headlined by Brock Lesnar vs. A.J. Styles and Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch in battles of the Raw and Smackdown brand champions.

But just days before the show, two unrelated incidents saw both main events that were heavily-looked forward to change.

And in doing so, one of the key matches at WrestleMania, possibly the main event, was also established.

Right now the plan is for Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch to headline WrestleMania. After the injury to Lynch on 11/12, a fractured nose and a concussion from a punch by Nia Jax during an in-ring Raw vs. Smackdown women’s brawl, she was out of the match that, due to the promos on both sides, was the most looked-forward to match on the show.

The next day, both Vince McMahon and Rousey decided that the best course of action was to do the match at WrestleMania. Rousey and Lynch immediately went at it hard on social media, even though Rousey’s new opponent on the PPV is Charlotte Flair.

Cody on Twitter said that his final ROH appearance would be on Final Battle on 12/14 against Jay Lethal for the title. He said that Lethal was his first opponent when he started with ROH two years ago, and he will be his last opponent as well.

This is the latest on the never-ending weight-cutting issues. Cynthia Cavillo, who missed weight by two pounds, could barely walk to the scale this morning. Still, even in that state, she was medically cleared and fights tomorrow night. Hopefully nothing bad happens, because if something does, this video is a smoking gun regarding UFC and its supervision of the show.

A 16-year-old girl is claiming that James Morris (James Ellsworth) sent her nude photos including a video statement from the accuser and more information she released. Morris denied the story. His attorneys, Bates & Garcia, released a statement saying, "My client, James Morris, known publicly and professionally as James Ellsworth has become aware of a number of baseless allegations. Mr. Morris has the utmost respect for women and categorically denies these inflammatory and despicable accusations."

WWE

  • While last night's NXT show in San Jose was taped for the WWE Network, it was not a traditional TV taping. It was more like a house show and basically an experiment in streamlining shows. The announcers weren't there, so voicover work will be done in studio. It was paced more like a house show.
  • Dolph Ziggler did a comedy show last night in Los Angeles with Tyler Breeze, Tye Dillinger, Ryan Nemeth (Ziggler's younger brother) and Damien Sandow. Breeze and Dillinger stayed away from anything WWE related past Dillinger holding the mic and saying it was the first time he's held a mic in two years. Ziggler did tell a joke about how Vince McMahon first pitched the Spirit Squad idea to him. There were other comics on the show who ran down Nia Jax and Enzo and one said that Enzo hung around comedy clubs in Los Angeles so much that now people were hating him. Becky Lynch was at the show since her boyfriend is a comedian who performed there.
