Two major names debut at tonight's Lucha Underground TV taping

Both Rey Mysterio Jr. and Dario Cueto's mythical brother MATANZA debuted tonight at the Lucha Underground television tapings.

Lucha Underground announced Mysterio's expected signing today in a press release.

“When it comes to in-ring performers, Rey Mysterio is among the elite and we are thrilled to welcome him and his skills to the ‘Lucha Underground’ franchise reinforcing our promise to bring US audiences the very best in lucha libre wrestling,” said Executive Producer and Showrunner, Eric Van Wagenen.

Mysterio said:  "I am excited by the opportunity to join such an extraordinary group of athletes and be a part of the Lucha Underground family.  It is a privilege to be able to represent this sport and have a chance to share my love of Lucha with passionate wrestling fans around the globe."

Matanza Cueto is the new Lucha Underground champion. They had a 20-man Aztec Warfare match at the tapings, which is Lucha Underground's modified version of the WWE Royal Rumble. Rey Mysterio showed up at #2 after the first entrant, Fenix. Matanza showed up at 21 after being introduced by Cueto. He pinned Fenix and it finally came down to Mantanza vs. Rey at the end, and Mantanza cleaned house and won the championship.

Lucha Underground Season 2 premieres on El Rey Network on Wednesday, January 27 at 8pm ET/PT.
