North American title match set for next week's WWE NXT

The NXT North American Championship will be on the line in a triple threat match next week.

On next Tuesday's NXT, North American Champion Carmelo Hayes will defend his title in a triple threat match against Johnny Gargano and Pete Dunne. Hayes proposed the title match after Gargano and Dunne both emerged as contenders to the North American Championship.

The title defense will be Hayes' first since winning the North American Championship from Isaiah "Swerve" Scott last month. Hayes has been calling himself the leader of NXT's new era and "the A champion" of the brand.

Hayes' feud with Gargano began when Gargano confronted him the week after his North American title win. Dunne defeated Hayes in a non-title match in last week's main event, with involvement by Gargano and Dexter Lumis leading to Hayes' loss.

Lumis lost to Tony D'Angelo on tonight's NXT and was then attacked by Hayes and Trick Williams after the match. They put Lumis' hand inside of a steel chair, then Hayes stomped on it after jumping from the middle rope. Gargano ran down after that and chased Hayes and Williams off.

Gargano then called out Hayes, but Dunne came down instead. Dunne told Gargano to stop trying to worm his way into a title match. Dunne brought up his win over Hayes, but Gargano said that Dunne won because of his help. Hayes appeared and said he'd face Gargano and Dunne at the same time next week.

A non-title match between NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa and Grayson Waller is also set for next Tuesday's NXT.
