IC title number one contender's match set for WWE SmackDown

The winner will challenge Gunther at September's Clash at the Castle PPV.

Gunther's challenger for Clash at the Castle will be determined on tonight's episode of SmackDown.

WWE has announced that a fatal five-way Intercontinental title number one contender's match will take place on SmackDown tonight, with the winner advancing to challenge Gunther at Clash at the Castle. Ricochet, Madcap Moss, Sheamus, Happy Corbin, and Sami Zayn will be the participants in the number one contender's match.

Clash at the Castle is being held in Cardiff, Wales on Saturday, September 3.

Gunther became Intercontinental Champion by defeating Ricochet on SmackDown this June. Last Friday, Gunther retained against Shinsuke Nakamura.

Tonight's SmackDown is taking place in Zayn's hometown of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It's the 1200th episode of the show.

  • WWE Women's Tag Team title tournament first-round match: Natalya & Sonya Deville vs. Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne)
  • Intercontinental title number one contender's match: Ricochet vs. Madcap Moss vs. Sheamus vs. Happy Corbin vs. Sami Zayn
  • The Viking Raiders will hold a "Viking Funeral" for The New Day
