WWE Main Event results: Shelton Benjamin vs. Akira Tozawa

The Big Takeaway: Shelton Benjamin defeated Akira Tozawa to mark his first ever appearance on WWE Main Event -- a fact that was not recognized at all on commentary.

Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins got their win back in what turned out to be a fun ending in their match against Mojo Rawley & Eric Young.

Shelton Benjamin defeated Akira Tozawa (5:45)

Well, Benjamin has achieved many things in this company, but at the age of 44, he had never had the dubious privilege of working on Main Event. Until now.

He looked like a heavyweight when compared to Tozawa here. He bullied him throughout and looked genuinely mortified when Tozawa had the audacity to try to hurt him. But hurt him he did -- after a rolling senton to the outside, Tozawa got plenty of offense in.

They had a pretty decent back and forth in the last few minutes and Tozawa flew around the ring for Benjamin. Benjamin eventually finished him with the Paydirt for the win.

This was good fun and really well paced. More of this on Main Event would be more than welcome.

Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins defeated Mojo Rawley & Eric Young (4:29)

Ryder and Hawkins now have their own music, but after the way they were dispensed with in the tag team turmoil match at Crown Jewel this past week, you’d have to assume they’re not high on anyone’s plans.

They initially kept this slow and methodical, with Ryder getting beaten up by Rawley. Then Hawkins, in turn, played babyface in peril.

After a commercial break, this kind of exploded and the last two minutes featured excellent tag team wrestling.

Ryder got the hot tag, but he was thwarted from hitting the Broski Boot on Young and instead had to hit a baseball slide on both Rawley and Young through the ropes to the outside. Hawkins then went for a spear on Young, but got caught in an exploder suplex for a near fall.

Rawley dumped Ryder and Hawkins dumped Rawley. Young went for a schoolboy, but Hawkins kicked out at two. Ryder was then quickly back up on the apron and blind tagged in so that he and Hawkins could get the win with the Long Island Express.
