WWE SmackDown live results: The draft begins


Friday Night SmackDown takes place from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada tonight.

The 2019 WWE Draft begins tonight before ending on Monday's Raw in Denver. The first pool of wrestlers eligible tonight includes Roman Reigns, The O.C., Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, and “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. The draft will feature FOX and USA Network personalities appearing.

Roman Reigns (representing SmackDown) takes on Seth Rollins (representing Raw). The winner’s brand will get the first pick in the draft.

A SmackDown Women's title rematch is also set for tonight, with new champion Charlotte Flair defending her title against Bayley. Charlotte became SmackDown Women's Champion by defeating Bayley at this past Sunday's Hell in a Cell pay-per-view

Also on tonight's show, The O.C. (AJ Styles, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson) will take on The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E & Xavier Woods) in a six-man tag match.

Seth Rollins (Representing Raw) defeated Roman Reigns (Representing SmackDown)

Michael Cole and Corey Graves discussed the draft before the match. They noted that FOX and USA executives have a say on the draft and that each network wants the strongest brand.

On commentary, Cole claimed this might be the last time we’ll ever see this match. He repeated this statement several times for other matches. Reigns had the early advantage, but Rollins slowed the pace down with a side headlock. Reigns rolled up Rollins for a near fall. Rollins then sent Reigns to the floor and went for a suicide dive.

Reigns nailed Rollins with a forearm to cut him off but missed the drive-by.

Rollins missed a knee off the apron, and they went face-to-face in the ring. They traded shots in the middle of the ring. Back from the break, Rollins was firmly in control. They both attempted a suplex, but neither executed the move. Reigns rolled up Rollins and followed up with a sit-out powerbomb for a near fall.

Reigns attempted the superman punch, but Rollins sent him into the corner.

Rollins followed up with three suicide dives and hit a springboard knee in the ring. He then hit a frog splash for another close two count.

Reigns avoided the Curb Stomp and hit an uppercut. Rollins made a comeback and hit a buckle bomb in the corner, but Reigns bounced back with the superman punch for a close near fall.

Reigns went for the spear, but Rollins countered into a modified pedigree for a two count. Rollins teased the Curb Stomp when suddenly the lights went out.

The Fiend Bray Wyatt came through a hole in the ring and applied the mandible claw on Rollins. He then dragged Rollins through the hole, but Rollins emerged minutes later. Wyatt slowly came out through the hole. The lights went out, and Wyatt appeared at the entrance.

Raw gets the first pick in the draft.

They showed executives busy at work inside the FOX and USA Network War Rooms. They’re all working on making the picks.

Michael Cole and Corey Graves ran down the rules of the draft.

Stephanie McMahon came out to announce draft selections. She stressed that FOX and USA Network Executives influence the draft picks.

The Raw Draft Picks: Raw Woman’s Champion Becky Lynch, The O.C. (AJ Styles, Karl Anderson, and Luke Gallows) and Drew McIntyre.

The SmackDown Draft Picks: Roman Reigns and “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. The FOX executives celebrated getting Reigns.

Renee Young hosted a special draft panel with Booker T, Beth Phoenix, and Samoa Joe. Young welcomed Joe to the show, and he said he’s happy she’s keeping the lights on at home.

Troy Aikman and Joe Buck discussed the draft. Aikman talked about his NFL draft and that his finishing move would be the piledriver.

King Baron Corbin defeated Shorty Gable

Apparently, Chad Gable’s name is now Shorty Gable. Greg Hamilton introduced Gable as Shorty; his name was listed as Shorty as he walked to the ring, and Cole called him the former Chad Gable. Cole and Graves referred to Gable as Shorty Gable throughout the match.

Before the match, Corbin mocked Gable’s height and talked about the type of king he is.

Gable caught Corbin with an arm drag, but Corbin fired back with a big boot for a near fall.

Gable attacked Corbin on the floor, but Corbin choke slammed Gable on the announce table. Corbin attempted Deep Six, but Gable countered with a bulldog. Corbin rolled to the floor, but Gable hit a running dropkick against the barricade.

Gable hit a moonsault for a very close near fall. Corbin attempted End of Days, but Gable reversed into a rolling German suplex for a near fall. He hit another German suplex, but he couldn’t hit the third.

Corbin attempted a chokeslam, but Gable countered into the ankle lock. Corbin fought out and hit End of Days for the win.

The panel for NFL on FOX discussed the draft and their first-round picks. They only named stars from the past, including Dusty Rhodes, Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and Andre The Giant.

Stephanie McMahon came out the announce the next round of picks.

Raw Draft Picks: Randy Orton, Ricochet, and Bobby Lashley. USA Networks executives celebrated getting Orton.

SmackDown DraftPicks: Sasha Banks and Braun Strowman.

Renee Young and the panel discussed the recent picks. They wondered if Lana would join Bobby Lashley on Raw.

They recapped the Braun Strowman and Tyson Fury angle.

They recapped the Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez angle.

WWE Champion Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman made their way to the ring. Heyman noted they’re out there to educate the fans. When a normal human being confronts their fears, they cower away with the thought of confrontation.

Heyman asked what does Lesnar fear. Heyman talked about October 23, 2010, when Velasquez conquered Lesnar and took the UFC Heavyweight Championship from Lesnar. He noted Lesnar never made any excuses because he doesn’t have any. That’s how good a fighter Velasquez is.

Heyman discussed Lesnar winning the title last week, and there were a lot of boos. Heyman promised that Lesnar is going to conquer his fear and Velasquez at Crown Jewel. Heyman said it’s not a prediction, but before he could say spoiler Rey Mysterio and Cain Velasquez interrupted.

Mysterio showed footage from UFC 121 when Velasquez defeated Lesnar. It included a shot of Lesnar’s scar after the fight. Velasquez spoke in Spanish, and Mysterio translated. He promised to give Lesnar a scar on the other side of his face.

In the back, The New Day did their intro. Kofi Kingston was holding a plate of pancakes and seemed in a good mood.

The New Day came out for an announcement for the Susan G. Komen foundation.

They showed footage of cancer survivor Sarah Veilleux and her sister Samantha. They met several superstars, including New Day.

Back in the arena, The New Day brought out Sarah and Samantha and presented them with WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

The New Day defeated The O.C.

The O.C. jumped The New Day and beat them around ringside.

Back from the break, the heels had the early advantage, but Kingston got the hot tag and ran wild. The New Day took over, and Woods hit a dive to the floor.

The fans broke into a “Kofi” chant. Styles attempted the Phenomenal Foreman, but Kingston rolled through. Styles went for the Styles Clash, but Kingston landed on his feet. Styles and Kingston had a heated exchange that ended when Kingston hit the Trouble In Paradise for the win.

Stephanie McMahon came out for the next round of draft picks.

Raw Draft Picks: Alexa Bliss, Kevin Owens, and Natalya. USA Network executives were pleased, but FOX was furious that USA got Bliss.

SmackDown Draft Picks: Lacey Evans and SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Revival.

McMahon announced the fourth and final round of the draft tonight. The draft continues Monday Night on Raw. 

Raw Draft Picks: The Viking Raiders, Nikki Cross, and The Street Profits.

SmackDown Draft Picks: Lucha House Party and Heavy Machinery. FOX was pleased about keeping Heavy Machinery.

They revealed some inside scoops, including a possible trade, selections that are injured, and an emphasis on the women’s division.

Bayley defeated Charlotte Flair To Win The SmackDown Woman’s Championship

Bayley came out and took her gear off. She was wearing black and gold tights with short hair. She took a weapon and destroyed the blow-up buddies that are part of her entrance.

Bayley was aggressive, but Flair hit a neck breaker and whipped Bayley into the barricade. Flair was firmly in control, but Bayley fought back. Back from the break, Bayley took over the match.

Bayley slowed the pace down with a side headlock. Flair pushed Bayley to the floor and hit a plancha.

She rocked Bayley with hard chops and a big boot off the apron. Flair attempted a backslide, but Bayley slipped out and hit the Bayley-to-Belly for a close near fall. Flair went for a moonsault but Bayley got the knees up. Flair landed on her feet and applied the Boston crab.

Bayley took over and hit a running knee in the corner. She followed up with an elbow drop off the top for a near fall. Bayley became more and more frustrated. She complained that she should win. Flair hit Natural Selection, but Bayley used an inside cradle to win the SmackDown title.

After the match, Bayley grabbed the mic and called the fans “b****es” and buried them for not supporting her.
