WWE NXT live results: Two Tag Team title matches

Two Tag Team title matches are set for tonight's episode of NXT.

Bayley & Sasha Banks will return to the brand for a Women's Tag Team title defense against Tegan Nox & Shotzi Blackheart. This will be the second time the titles have been defended on NXT since they were introduced last year.

Bayley & Banks retained their titles against Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross and The IIconics in a triple threat match at Backlash. The winner of tonight's match will defend the titles against The IIconics on Raw next Monday.

Imperium's Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner are also defending their NXT Tag Team titles against Breezango tonight. Breezango became the number one contenders to the titles by defeating Undisputed Era's Roderick Strong & Bobby Fish and Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch in a triple threat match two weeks ago.

Plus, WWE will follow up on the warning that Scarlett sent to NXT Champion Adam Cole on behalf of Karrion Kross at the end of last week's episode. Cole cut a post-show promo last week saying he isn't worried about Kross, Keith Lee, or Finn Balor trying to take his title.

Our coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

The show is opened with the tag team title match.

NXT Tag Team Champions Imperium (Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner) defeated Breezango (Tyler Breeze & Fandango) to retain their titles

Aichner pinned Fandango to retain the titles. The match was good, but the finish made Breezango look foolish.

Breezango during their entrance spoofed the champions coming out dressed as "Marsupial" and "Fabio" from "Emporium".

Aichner was in control working an arm on Breeze. Then Breeze was able to counter with a Cactus Jack clothesline that sent both of them out to the floor. Barthel joined Aichner in a double team where they sent Breeze crashing into the plexiglass barriers. Imperium then kept Breeze in their corner while they got heat on him.

Fandango ran wild after a hot tag. A flurry of high spots led into Fandango doing a tope con giro flip dive before a commercial break. Imperium were regaining the advantage as the show returned from break. Aichner did a cool desplift suplex on Breeze with an assist from Barthel.

Breeze was able to counter so he and Fandango could execute the tandem Fashion Faux Pas for a near fall that was broken up with a collision. Fandango moments later delivered the Bobby Eaton flying legdrop off the top rope for another close two count that was broken up.

Malcolm Bivens led his team Indus Sher to ringside just before the finish. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch ran down and began brawling with Indus Sher. Breeze was knocked off the apron on to the teams brawling at ringside. Meanwhile, Fandango rolled up Barthel -- but Barhel was not the legal man for his team. Aichner then caught Fandango with a DDT, and he covered him for the pinfall.

Velveteen Dream in an interview brought up a picture supposedly drawn by Dexter Lumis that showed he and Dream as the NXT Tag Team Champions. Dream dismissed the notion of them was a team. He called the artwork a "misunderstanding" between them. Dream got help from Lumis at TakeOver, and Dream returned the favor on last week's episode. Dream wanted Lumis to understand that Lumis means nothing to him. Dream said he was a "solo act".

Damian Priest defeated Killian Dane

Priest pinned Dane after delivering The Reckoning.

Priest seems like a full-fledged babyface now. He sold his back early on, and Dane targeted the back. Priest was looking strong until the injury caught up with him, and then Dane began to work him over. Priest fought back, but his hope spot was dashed with a series of suplexes.

Priest sidestepped a charge into a corner, and then Priest started to make a comeback. He hit Dane with a flurry of punches and kicks. Priest got a two count after a delivering a flying forearm. Dane would go on to momentarily cut off Priest with a crossbody. Priest still fought back and set up The Reckoning before covering Dane for the pinfall.

A disheveled Robert Stone continues to spiral downward. He was a mess, and was seemingly drunk. He even had a bottle rapped in a paper bag. Dane startled Stone as he was leaving the ring. Before the next match, Aliyah had to go get Stone and lead him to the ring as he is still her manager for some reason.

Aliyah (with Robert Stone) defeated Xia Li

They were having a wrestling match when Stone got on the apron. He was still a mess. He projecrtile vomitted on Li, and she was of course distracted and disgusted by this. Could have done without seeing that. Aliyah rolled up Li for the pinfall. They messed up the first count, but they got the second attempt right.

A drunk Stone fell off the apron after the match. Aliyah tried to cheer him by saying she had won the match.

A vignette showed Timothy Thatcher stretching and torturing people while doing a seminar. This made Thatcher looke like the wrestling version of the heel coach in the original Karate Kid movie.

Undisputed Era took Roderick Strong to therapy in a pretape segment. NXT Champion Adam Cole and Bobby Fish picked up Strong in their limo. Strong was unshaven and not in the mood for his stablemates' fist pumping. Cole & Fish accompanied Strong to what was supposed to be a doctor's office.

Cole had Strong lay on a couch, and he told him to close his eyes. The doctor then lowered the book his was reading to reveal his face -- and it was Kyle O'Reilly. He disguised his voice and used a fake name pretending to be a doctor. He asked Strong what as wrong.

Strong started to talk abou this fear related to Dexter Lumis. Cole started doing an inkplot test, and Strong began to freak out. He saw Lumis and the trunk of the car Lumis put him in.

O'Reilly -- still playing the doctor -- told Strong he has to confront his fear of the trunk. Strong eventually agreed, and they tried putting him in the trunk of the limo. Strong bolted and ran away at top speed. Cole & Fish took off after him.

NXT Champion Cole was backstage at Full Sail when he was confronted by NXT North American Champion Keith Lee -- who again warned Cole he would be the person taking the title off of him. Cole stormed off, and Lee smirked.

Cole came to the ring for a promo, and Cole began by noting he has held the NXT Championship for 388 days. Cole brought up Karrion Kross, and Cole basically said Kross had to work his way up the ladder. Kross last week confronted Cole in a cliffhanger that closed the show.

Cole went on to address Keith Lee. Cole said he had his eyes on the North American title. Cole talked about winning both titles and then people can refer to him as "champ champ, bay bay."

Lee came to the ring to confront Cole face-to-face. Before Lee could speak, Johnny Gargano interrupted them. Gargano warned Lee that he had his sights on the North American Championship. Gargano said he also wanted the NXT Championship so he and his wife Candice LeRae can achieve their goal of being the first married couple to hold both top NXT singles titles at the same time.

Lee was insulting Gargano when Finn Balor joined the party. He arrived on the scene and used the term "marks" so his inside baseball references continue. Balor wants the North American Championship because he was never held that title. Balor got in Lee's face. He told Lee this wasn't a challenge, this a warning. Balor is taking the title. Then Balor turned to Cole and warned him to would come for his title after winning the other one.

Balor called Cole a "transitional champion", and Cole took exception to that remark. They were seemingly about the throw hands when William Regal appeared on the Titantron to book some matches. He booked a triple threat match next week for the North American Championship with Lee defending against Balor and Gargano. The winner of that match faces Cole on July 8th in a champion vs. champion match with both titles on the line.

After that segment when Lee was backstage, he was confronted by an angry LeRae. She was met by Mia Yim, and they brawled around the backstage area.

Dakota Kai (with Raquel Gonzalez) defeated Kayden Carter

Kai submitted Carter in a short match after interference by Gonzalez. Carter got to shine briefly, but not for long as they went right into the finish.

The hourglass that Scarlett brought out last week was shattered in a skit, and Kross walked over the pieces of broken glass and sand.

A vignette highlighted Mercedes Martinez. That was great, and Martinez is great. I hope she gets to show how great she is in NXT.

Bronson Reed defeated Leon Ruff

Reed pinned Ruff quickly in a squash match. Reed did a splash off the top rope as his finisher.

Reed after the match challenged Karrion Kross to a match next week on NXT. Then he picked up Ruff on his shoulders and carried him to the back.

Someone slashed Damian Priest's tires on his car. Cameron Grimes drove up in another car, and he taunted Priest before speeding away.

NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobarc came to the ring for a promo. He was flanked by Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde. Escobar talked about the legacy of El Hijo del Fantasma. For years he was known as just a luchador while wearing the mask. He knew that would come to an end when he signed with NXT so he closed the chapter on Fantasma.

Escobar said his father, Fantasma, also told he was going to be leader and not a luchador. Escobar vowed to teach Mendoza & Wilde how to be leaders. Escobar said he was "leader of leaders". Drake Maverick interrupted the speech and he stormed the ring. Maverick got some licks in before the numbers game caught up to him. Maverick was able to do a tope, but then he got beaten down at ringside.

Escobar then gave Maverick a Phantom Driver off a stage through a table. Maverick did a stretcher job during the commercial break.

Officially announced for next Wednesday night on NXT is Grimes vs. Priest and Reed vs. Kross. Both matches were set up earlier in the show. Also made official earlier in the show was the triple threat match for the NXT North Amercian Championship.

WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks & Bayley defeated Shotzi Blackheart & Tegan Nox to retain their titles.

Banks submitted Blackheart to retain the titles.

The challengers each got to shine before the champs cut them off. They match went through a commercial break that built to a hot tag for Blackheart to clean house. She spiked Banks with a back suplex for a near fall.

Blackheart missed a wrecking ball dropkick, and Banks captialized with a running meteora off the apron to the floor. Blackheart soon made a comeback, and she tagged in Nox for some stereo cannonball splashes. Nox with chokeslammed Banks onto Bayley. Blackheart then followed up with a springboard dive to the outside.

More tandem offense from Blackheart & Nox, but their near fall was broken up with a save by Banks. Everybody was down selling as they went into the final moments of the match.

Banks countered a Doomsday Device -- only for Banks to take a missile dropkick. Banks kicked out of a pinning attempt and transitioned into applying the Bank Statement. Blackheart escaped the hold and applied cattle mutilation submission hold. Bayley got in the ring with a chair to break up the hold, but Nox cut her off and took the chair.

The referee caught Nox holding the chair, and he admonished her for it. While the ref has his attention on Nox, behind his back was Bayley breaking up the submission hold. Banks then applied the Bank Statement, and Blackheart tapped out.

Banks & Bayley were celebrating in the ring after the match when NXT Women's Champion Io Shirai ran in to attack them. She suplexed them, hit them both with running knee strikes, and then Shirai cleared the ring to stand tall.
