Dana White denies UFC sale; Anderson Silva out of Saturday's UFC 198

Dana White UFC

The UFC news tree just keeps giving on this Tuesday night.

Less than an hour after ESPN's Darren Rovell reported that the sale of the UFC appears imminent, UFC president and owner Dana White refuted the story, telling the Las Vegas Review-Journal's Adam Hill that "The UFC is not for sale. The ESPN story is overblown. Darren Rovell is not a fan of facts. His facts could not be further off.”

Rovell tweeted "LOL" at this quote and said they cited five different independent sources and three of those source said "UFC volunteered a full year EBITDA of in between $200M & $250M to investors."

He added, "Hey Dana White, once you hire an investment back to give out your financials, it's hard to say you're not for sale." [sic]

As always, more to come. Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez did a breaking news audio about the situation earlier where they have some interesting food for thought.

Anderson Silva

In other news, former UFC middleweight champion and legend Anderson Silva is out of this Saturday's loaded UFC 198 show due to "abdominal pain that may require gall bladder surgery" as first reported by Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole Tuesday night.

The 41-year-old was set to face Uriah Hall on the main card from his hometown of Curitiba, Brazil. Now, it looks like that fight may never happen. The aforementioned White said that they are trying to find a replacement to fight Hall on very short notice.

From Iole's piece:

"Anderson developed abdominal discomfort [Monday and] further evaluation today is consistent with acute cholecystitis," UFC medical consultant Jeff Davidson said Tuesday. "He will be seen by a surgeon today for possible surgery."

While Silva's removal is a bummer for fight fans, the show still features plenty of talent and great fights with UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic, Jacare Souza vs. Vitor Belfort, the promotional debut of Cyborg Santos, Matt Brown vs. Demian Maia, and more.
