UFC on ESPN+ 3 live results: Jan Blachowicz vs. Thiago Santos

The Octagon heads to the Czech Republic for the very first time with a light heavyweight slugfest serving as the main event.
Jan Blachowicz will be on the hunt for his fifth straight win when he takes on Thiago Santos in the five-round headliner. Santos has won three straight fights, including two straight since making the move up to 205 pounds, and he is seen as a dangerous threat in the new weight class.

Also on the main card is a heavyweight battle that sees Stefan Struve looking to end his three-fight losing skid against Marcos Rogerio de Lima, Liz Carmouche looks to get in the women's flyweight title picture as she takes on Lucie Pudilova, and John Dodson tries to get back in the win column against surging bantamweight prospect Petr Yan.

> Damir Ismagulov (17-2, 1-0 UFC) vs. Joel Alvarez (15-1, 0-0 UFC)

Both guys throwing a lot of punches early with Ismagulov connecitng more. Alvarez bleeding from the nose early. Ismagulov also landing hard leg kicks and a lot of reddening on Alvarez' lead leg. Ismagulov with a 26-15 advantage in strikes landed in round 1. 10-9 Ismagulov

Round 2 was more of the same, although Alvarez starting to check some of the kicks. He seems really nervous to be in there. Ismagulov targeting the body more and by the end of the round has an 18-4 advantage in body strikes landed. 10-9 Ismagulov, 20-18

Alvarez' midsection is completely red, like he fell asleep on the beach, except it wasn't like that at the start of the fight. Alvarez starting to try and push the pace midway through the round but Ismagulov keeping his distance and landing hard counters. Alvarez looking for the home run shot and taking more chances in the last 90 seconds and does connect a couple of tiimes. Ismagulov rocks him with a nice punch combo with 30 seconds left. Round 3 was closer but Alvarez didn't do enough to even take a round. 10-9 Ismagulov, 30-27

> Rustam Khabilov (23-3, 9-2 UFC) vs. Diego Ferreira (14-2, 5-2 UFC)
Lightweights* (Ferreira missed weight by 1 pound)

Ferreira aggressive to start and pushing the action. Khabilov landing counters while ducking out of the way of the hard shots of Ferreira for the most part. Ferreira catches him with a nice shot and follows up with a knee to the body, Khabilov gets a suplex takedown but Ferreira right up. Ferreira backs up Khabilov with a punch combo at 3:00. Head strikes are 16-7 for Ferreira through 4 minutes. Khabilov gets a takedown but Ferreira takes the back on the way down. Ferreira ith a rear naked choke as the round ends. 10-9 Ferreira

Ferreira's corner told him he won the round but to stay away from the ground game going forward. Ferreira comes out aggressive to start round 2 as well. Khabilov with a nice punch combo at 1:30. Khabilov showing damage on his midsection. Khabilov with basically a belly to belly suplex for a takedown at 3:00 but Ferreira gets right up.  Ferreira lands a nice punch combo at 4:15. Khabilov with a power takedown at 4:30 but Ferreira right up. 10-9 Ferreira. 20-18

Great punch exchange 30 seconds in. Khabilov backs up Ferreira with punches at 45 seconds. Ferreira corner, between rounds, told him it could be 1-1 because of the takedowns and that he needs this round. Ferreira with a good punch combo at 1:30. Neither guy looking tired. Khabilov bleeding from the nose and both legs are red. Ferreira with a 69-27 advantage in distance strikes landed through 13 minutes. Khabilov gets off a nice punch combo at 3 minutes. Ferreira lands a hard combo and rocks Khabilov, who goes for a takedown. Ferreira lands hard elbows to the head while defending it. Khabilov stuffed on another takedown. And another at 4:30. Khabilov finally gets it at 4:45 but Ferreira right up. Ferreira lands a high kick that rocks Khabilov right before the buzzer. 10-9 Ferreira, 30-27

> Michel Prazeres (26-2, 10-2 UFC) vs. Ismail Naurdiev (17-2, 0-0 UFC)

Prazeres catches a kick and goes for a takedown early. Prazeres ends up in control of the cage clinch. Naurdiev manages to separate. Naurdiev throwing hard punches and leg kicks. Naurdiev defends antoher takedown attempt at 1:30. They separate after knees to the body from Naurdiev. Naurdiev backs up Prazers with a great  punch combo. He goes for another takedown and eats more punches. Prazeres finally gets him down at 2:30 and working for a head and arm choke. Naurdiev reverses into top position. Naurdiev with hard elbows to the head. Naurdiev into mount and then takes the back at 3:30. Prazers escapes a choke attempt and works into top position. Naurdiev lands hard elbows to the while sitting. Prazeres with elbows to the head at 4:45. 10-9 Naurdiev

Prazeres gets Naurdiev briefly to open the round but he gets right up. Naurdiev landing kicks from distance in the first minute and defends another takedown attempt. Kick combo from Naurdiev at 1:30. Prazeres definitely pushing the action. Naurdiev with a 31-10 advantage in significant strikes landed. Prazeres controlling a cage clinch at 2:00. He gets him down  at 2:30. Naurdiev scrambles into top position at 2:45. Ref stands them up at 3:30 for lack of action. Naurdiev lands a knee to the head as Prazeres moves in for a takedown. Prazeres controlling a cage clinch and ref warns them to work quickly. Crowd showing disapproval. Ref beraks up the clinch at 4:30. Naurdiev defends another takedown att 4:45. 10-9 Naurdiev, 20-18

They huge to start round 3 and the crowd gives them an ovation. Cage clinch with Prazeres in control. They gets a warning quickly for lack of action. Naurdiev defends another takedown attempt and Prazeres now 2/13 on his attempts. He does manage to get into top position at 2:15. Prazeres doing nothing but laying on him though and the ref is warning them. Naurdiev to his feet at 3:15 and lands a knee/punch combo. Prazeres stuffed on a takedown attempt and Naurdiev landing hard punches to the head. Naurdiev ends up in top position. Naurdiev landing punches and elbows and gives up his back. Naurdiev relentless with the punches. Prazeres turns over onto his back and throwing up light punches but not defending at all. Naurdiev is exhausted himself but trying to finish Prazeres, who is compleltely out of gas. Ref warns them to work at 4:45. 10-8 Naurdiev, 30-26 overall

> Damir Hadzovic (12-4, 2-2 UFC) vs. Polo Reyes (8-3, 4-1 UFC)

Hadzovic throwing a lot of kicks early. Reyes throwing mostly counter punches while backing up. Hadzovic with a punch/kick combo at 2:30. Reyes with a similar combo at 2:45. Reyes with a nice punch combo at 3:30. Hadzovic answers back with one. Body punch combo from Reyes. Hadaovic with a left hook but Reyes answers back with another punch combo. Hadzovic with a takedown at 4:15. Reyes to his feet but Hazovic controlling the back. Hadzovic gets him down again before the buzzer. 10-9 Hadzovic

Punch/kick combo from Reyes to open the round. Hadzovic gets a takedown and right into mount at 1:00. Hadzovic with hard elbows and punches to the head. Reyes gives up his back at 1:30. Hadzovic works him back to mount at 1:45. Hadzovic landing hard punches to the head nad again Reyes gives up his back. Hadzovic landing hard unanswered shots and the ref stops it.

Hadzovic said he likes Reyes and is unhappy that he's hurt and wished that hadn't happened. 

> Veronica Macedo (5-2, 0-2 UFC) vs. Gillian Robertson (5-3, 2-1 UFC)
Women's Flyweights

Robertson gets an early takedown and quickly gains mount. Macedo revereses into top position and landing hard punches to the head as well as elbows. Robertson back on top. Macedo gives up her back as she tries to get to her feet. Robertson wtih a full body lock and trying to set up a rear naked choke. Macedo sweeps into top position. Macedo to her feet at 3:15. Macedo throwing hard kicks to the body. Macedo with a punch combo. Robertson gets a takedown. Macedo with a triangle attempt from her back and then landing elbows to the head after Robertson breaks it. 10-9 Macedo

Macedo with a takedown to open the round but Robertson up quickly. Robertson with a takedown but Macedo with a guillotine attempt. Macedo with a 30-3 advantage in significant strikes landed in round 1. Robertson escapes the choke and landing punches to the body. Robertson wtih an arm triangle attempt but Macedo sweeps into top position. Robertson with an armbar attempt from her back. Robertson throws up a triangle attempt as well. Robertson sweeps into top position and lands in mount at 3:00. Robertson takes the back and secures a rear naked choke and gets the quick tap.

Robertson said she's a submission hunter and always looking for the tap. She was so happy in her promo and said the rear naked choke was her favorite sub. She said she secured the choke before she was even in position, which is how she catches people. 

> Daniel Teymur (6-2, 0-2 UFC) vs. Chris Fishgold (17-2-1, 0-1 UFC)

Fishgold gets an early takedown. Teymur grabbed the fence to avoid it and ref took a point, Teymur landing hard punches from his back .Fishgold with another takedown. Teymur up quickly and gets a takedown of his own. Teymur an ankle lock attempt but escapes. Both to their feet at 1:45. Fishgold msisses badly on a takedown attempt and eats come punches. Fishgold with another takedown. Teymur up but Fishgold takes his back. Teymur shakes him off and gets a takedown, moving right into side control. Teymur landing hard punches and elbows. Fishgold to hs feet at 3:15. Both throwing wild punches on the feet. Fishgold marching forward with punches and then gets a takedown at 4:00. Fishgold takes the back at 4:15. Fishgold into mount and landing hard punches and elbows at 4:30. Fishgold with an armbar attempt. Teymur escapes but gives up his back. 10-8 Fishgold

Fishgold gets a takdown and takes the back at 1:00. Fishgold with a rear naked choke and gets the tap.

Fishgold got a post-fight promo but between him being exhausted and his thick accent, I couldn't understand a word he said. 

> Dwight Grant (8-2, 0-1 UFC) vs. Carlo Pedersoli (11-2, 1-1 UFC)

Grant with a nice punch combo and then defends a takedown, all inthe first 30 seconds. Pedersolit with another takedown attempt stuffed. Kick/punch combo from Grant at 1:30. Wild punch exchange at 2:00 that the crowd loves. Pedersoli pushing the action and throwing a lot of different kicks. Grant throwing these wild haymakers that are missing badly for the most part. Grant stuffs a takedown attempt at 3:45. Pedersoli takes the back standing. Grant breaks free at 4:00. Grant stuffs another takedown at 4:30. Pedersoli with knees to the head. Pedersoli down after missing a kick and getting nailed with a punch that makes him land flat on his face. Grant follows up with punches and the ref stops it as the buzzer is going off to end the round.

They said 4:59 but Goddard was stopping it as the buzzer was going off. On live viewing it almost looked like it was stopped after the buzzer but the replay showed it was basically at the buzzer. The punch landed so hard it knocked Pedersoli's mouthpiece out. Grant said he was waiting for the opportunity to duck that kick and land a punch after watching his previous fights and that's exactly what he did. Grant wants to fight again quickly and promises another win like this if he gets another fight. 


> Magomed Ankalaev (11-1, 1-1 UFC) vs. Klidson Abreu (14-2, 0-0 UFC)
Light Heavyweights* (Abreu missed weight by 3 pounds)

Abreu controlling the pact to start. Ankalaev goes to the cage clinch at 1:00. They trade knees to the body. Crowd booing the lact of action and the ref warns them to work. They separate on their own. Abreu lands a hard punch combo that rocks Ankalaev. Nice punch exchange at 2:15. Ankalaev lands a nice uppercut that breaks the nose of Abreu as he moves in for a takedown. Abreu stuffed on a takedown attempt and Ankalaev ends up on top. Abreu tying up his body from the back. Ankalaev landing elbows to the head, which starts the bleeding from the nose. More hard elbows from Ankalev at 4:45. 10-9 Ankalaev

Abreu lands a nice head kick 30 seconds in. Ankalaev with a 37-11 advantage in strikes landed. Abreu with a nice punch combo at 1:15. Ankalev pushing the action now. Ankalaev moves in for a takedown but stuffed. Ref continually warning Ankalaev for having his fingers outstretched but he may not understand him. Abreu has a takedown attempt blocked but ends up in control of a cage clinch. Ankalaev takes control at 3:15. Ref warns them to work. Trip takedown from Ankalaev and right into half guard. Ankalaev setting up a triangle choke. Total Strike count now 56-20. Abreu works him back to full guard and is landing strikes from his back but not enough to steal the round. 10-9 Ankalaev, 20-18

Abreu takes the center of the Octagon to start. Ankalaev catches a kick and gets a takedown but Abreu right up. Ankalaev lands a nice punch combo though. Bleeding has stopped, for now, from the broken nose. Ref warns Ankalaev again about the outstretched arms. Significant strikes are 41-18 for Ankalaev. Crowd getting bored and whistling. Nice punch exchange at 2:30. Ankalaev to the cage clinch at 3:15. Ref warns them to work at 3:45 as the crowd whistles their disapproval. Warns them again at 4:15. He finally breaks them at 4:30. Another finger warning for Ankalaev. Back to the cage clinch as the fight ends. 10-9 Ankalaev, 30-27

> John Dodson (#9, 20-10, 9-5 UFC) vs. Petr Yan (#14, 11-1, 3-0 UFC)

Dodson moves forward with punches to start. Yan takes over Octagon control in the first minute. Dodson rushes and lands some nice punches to the body. Dodson catches a kick and gets a takedown but lets him back up. Yan lands a nice punch combo and Dodson in trouble. Dodson catches another kick and gets a flash takedown. Yan up and they clinch in the center. Yan throws Dodson off. Ref wanrs them both about extending their fingers. Dodson with a punch combo at 3:00. Dodson clinches up on the cage at 3;15. They separate on their own and Yan gets off some nice punches. Yan with a nice punch combo at 3:45. Dodson answers with one of his own. Punch/knee combo from Yan at 4:45. Close round, 10-9 Dodson

Yan with a nice punch combo 30 seconds in as he continues to press the action and keep Dodson's back to the cage. Dodson with a near takedown at 1:45 but Yan quickly takes over the standup again. Yan just misses a flying knee and Dodson gets a takedown off of it. Yan right up and controlling the back standing. Knee to the head from Yan and Dodson breaks away. Both land hard punches. Yan defends a takedown and ends up controlling hte back of Dodson and drags him down. Dodson up but Yan still controlling the back. Dodson blatantly grabbing the cage and the ref does nothing. Yan with a nice punch combo at 4:15. Dodson stuffed on a takedown attempt. Yan takes him down and takes the back. Yan landing punches to the head as the fight ends. 10-9 Yan, 29-28 overall

Petr Yan called out Jimmie Rivera for his next fight. Rivera is another top contender so that's a good name for him and it would be a winnable fight for him as well. 

> Liz Carmouche (#6, 12-6, 4-4 UFC) vs. Lucie Pudilova (#14 WBW, 8-3, 2-2 UFC)
Women's Flyweights

Pudilova gets a huge ovation as the only Czech fighter on the show. Carmouche takes it to a cage clinch in the first minute. Crowd booing the lack of action after a minute of this. Carmouche with foot stomps. Carmouche with punches to the legs. Carmouche finally gets her down at 3:30. Pudilova with elbows to the head and Carmouche bleeding pretty heavily. Pudilova with a guillotine attempt but Carmouche escapes. Pudilova in a sitting position. Pudilova does get to her feet as the round ends with a standing guillotine. 10-9 Carmouche

Pudilova has only landed 12 of her 82 strikes thrown. Carmouche has landed 42. Carmouche gets a takedown at 2;45 after catching a kick. Carmouche with an armlock attempt and moves into side control. Carmouche with elbows to the body. Pudilova with elbwos to the head from her back. Pudilova works her back to half guard at 3:45. Carmouche with a heel hook attempt at 4:00. Pudilova with elbows to the backside of Carmouche. Pudilova escapes an into top position. Carmouche with an armbar attempt from her back. Pudilova escapes and keeps top postion. Pudilova with punches to the head as the round ends. 10-9 Carmouche, 29-28 overall

Crowd is so loud expressing their disapproval that Carmouche can't even hear Dan Hardy asking her questions. They shold've interviewed Pudilova. 

> Gian Villante (17-10, 7-7 UFC) vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk (12-2 1 NC, 0-0 1 NC UFC)
Light Heavyweights

Michal controlling the cage early. He's moving in and out quite a bit, which appears to be confusing Villante. Nice punch exchange at 45 seconds. Michal lands a liver punch that cripples Villante and he goes down hard before eating a few punches and the ref stops it.

> Stefan Struve (28-11, 12-9 UFC) vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima (16-5-1, 5-3 UFC)

de Lima knocks down Struve with the first punch of the fight and goes to the ground, landing punches. Struve ties him up from the ground. de Lima setting up a head and arm choke. de Lima lets it go and lands some more punches. Struve attempts a Kimura from his back. de Lima with punches to the body and head. de Lima doing a good job keeping Struve tied up and doing enough to avoid a standup. Heavy punches from de Lima at 3:00 to the head. Total strikes are 44-0 for de Lima. de Lima into half guard at 3:45. Crowd getting restless but this is complete domination by de Lima, who passes into side control and then mount at 4:30. 10-8 de Lima

Cage clinch to start the round with de Lima in control. Struve takes him down and then postures up to improve position. Struve setting up an arm triangle from half guard at 1:15. de Lima tying up the legs of Struve from his back. Struve breaks that and goes back to the arm triangle attempt at 2:15 and then gets the tap.

Struve admits that he was knocked out cold in the first round and doesn't even remember and woke up on the ground. He said his experience helped him win the fight. Struve is now 2nd all time in submission wins at heavyweight in UFC behind Frank Mir. Struve strongly hinted that this may have been his last fight. He says he's not 100% sure he's retiring but would like to go out with a win and he's going to think hard about retiring. He was crying at the end and laid his gloves down in the center of the Octagon. 

> Jan Blachowicz (#4, 23-7, 6-4 UFC) vs. Thiago Santos (#6, 20-6, 12-5 UFC)
Light Heavyweights

Santos advancing to start and throwing hard kicks that are just missing. Blachowicz landing hard leg kicks early. Santos gets off a couple of leg kicks as well. Blachowicz doing his best to stay out of Santos' striking range. Santos tags Blachowicz with a hard punch to the head at 3:45. Blachowicz with a takedown attempt stuffed at 4:15. Santos taking over Octagon control late in the round. Santos with hard leg kicks late in the round. Close round, 10-9 Blachowicz

Santos drops Blachowicz with a punch combo early and all over him with hammer punches. Most of them blocked but enough of them got through that referee Herb Dean had not choice but to stop it. 

Official result - Thiago Santos (21-6) by TKO (punches) at 39 seconds of the 3rd round

Santos wants a title shot after the win. Blachowicz very gracious in congratulating him and they shared some cordial words. Santos is now tied for 2nd in UFC history for most knockouts behind Vitor Belfort. Santos said he had to take it easier this time because of the style matchup. They showed the replay and I counted 25 hammer fists to the head after the knockdown. Santos dedicated the win to his family and friends in Brazil due to the tough start of the year they had. Santos said he'll be in Las Vegas and he wants the winner of next week's fight. He says if it's Anthony Smith, I'll beat him again and if it's Jon Jones, I'll beat him too.
