UFC on ESPN+ 7 live results: Alistair Overeem vs. Aleksei Oleinik

The Octagon heads to Russia for the second time with a heavyweight five-round main event.

Former UFC title challenger Alistair Overeem looks to score his second straight win and get back into the title picture when he takes on Aleksei Oleinik in the headliner. Oleinik comes into the fight on short notice as a replacement for Alexander Volkov, but is gunning for his third straight win after submitting Mark Hunt in the first Russia UFC event in September.

This card is filled with a lot of Russian fighters, but also features a nice women's flyweight fight as Roxanne Modafferi takes on Antonina Shevchenko, the younger sister of UFC Women's Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko.

> Magomed Mustafaev (14-2, 2-1 UFC) vs. Rafael Fiziev (6-0, 0-0 UFC)
Lightweights

Mustafaev rocks Fiziev early with a shot to the chin. Mustafaev knocks him down with a spinning heel kick and finishes him quickly with punches on the ground.

Official result - Magomed Mustafaev (15-2) by TKO (punches) at 1:26

Mustafaev had been off for over two years but said he'd been training the whole time and it was good to come back with a performance like this. 

> Gadzhimurad Antigulov (20-5, 2-1 UFC) vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk (13-2 1 NC, 1-0 1 NC UFC)
Light Heavyweights

Antigulov opens with punches to the head and goes for a takedown but stuffed. Michal drops him with a punch but he gets up. Michal drops him again but he's up again. Antigulov chasing him and eats another punch. He's down again and Michal finishes him with punches on the ground. 

Official result - Michal Oleksiejczuk (14-2) by KO (punches) at 44 seconds

Oleksiejczuk said that he's going to climb to the top of the division and continue to finish people like this. Post-fight interview took awhile with two different translators. 

> Marcin Tybura (#10, 17-4, 4-3 UFC) vs. Shamil Abdurakhimov (#13, 19-4, 4-2 UFC)
Heavyweights

Both guys keeping their distance early and missing most of their first strikes. Shamil gets off a nice punch combo at 1:15. Shamil nails a series of uppercuts from a clinch in the middle but Tybura weathers them well. Tybura lands a kick to the middle that could've been low but ref Herb Dean doesn't stop the action. Significant strikes through 4:30 are 19-12 for Shamil. With the fight entirely on the feet, that should give him the round. 10-9 Abdurakhimov 

Tybura landing more punches early in round 2. Shamil gets a takedown at 1:15 but Tybura gets right up. Punch combo from Shamil at 2:00 and he goes for a takedown but stuffed. Tybura bleeding from a cut on the nose and eats a spinning back fist. Shamil rocks Tybura witha  punch combo. Tybura staying up but eating a lot of punches and the ref steps in to stop it and Tybura finally drops after the fight is stopped.

> Alexander Yakovlev (23-8-1, 2-4 UFC) vs. Alex da Silva (20-1, 0-0 UFC)
Lightweights

Da Silva pushing the pace early. Da Silva with a takedown attempt blocked by Yakovlev and Yakovlev ends up in control of a cage clinch. Da Silva breaks free without taking any damage. Yakovlev gets a takedown but Da Silva gets to his feet quickly and takes Yakovlev down with a slam. Da Silva into side control at 2:30. Yakovlev gives up his back but then scrambles into top position. Da Silva into a seated position but Yakovlev working for the leg. Both to their feet at 3:15 and Da Silva controlling the cage clinch. Yakovlev lands a couple of hard elbows to the head and then takes control of the clinch. Yakovlev with knees to the body but Da Silva takes back clinch control. 10-9 Da Silva but close

Yakovlev slips while throwing a kick to open the 2nd and Da Silva goes right into his guard. Da Silva working for an arm triangle as he moves into half guard. Yakovlev escapes and to his feet at 1:#0 and takes Da Silva down. Da Silva gets up quickly and working for a takedown. Yakovlev sprawls out and lands some nice punches to the body. Yakovlev landing hard elbows to the head while continuing to defend the takedown. Yakovlev with a guillotine and gets the tap.

Yakovlev was asked after the fight if he's going to stay at lightweight or move back to welterweight. He says he feels good at this weight and he felt like the guys at 170 were too big for him. 

> Sultan Aliev (14-3, 1-2 UFC) vs. Keita Nakamura (34-9-2 1 NC, 5-6 UFC)
Welterweights

Aliev landing jabs from distance early. Both land hard rights at the 2 minute mark. Aliev lands a nice punch combo at 2:30 and controlling a cage clinch. Nakamura gets a trip takedown but Aliev right up and still controlling the clinch. Nakamura with punches to the body. Ref warns them to work as action is kind of stalled. Aliev with an 11-3 advantage in head strikes landed through 4:15 and they break on their own. Aliev goes right back to the cage clinch at 4:30. Ref warns them quickly this time but only 10 seconds left. 10-9 Aliev but close

Nakamura controlling the pace early in round 2 but Aliev gets off the first punch combo. Nice punch exchange at 2:30 with buys guys landing good shots. Aliev goes to the cage clinch but quick separation. Nakamura starting to land more but only single shots. Aliev gets a slam takedown at 3:30. Nakamura lands elbows to the head as he tries to make his way to his feet. Nakamura to his feet at 4:15 and didn't really take any damage. Aliev still controlling his body though. 10-9 Aliev, another close round, 20-18 overall

Nakamura actually has the lead in total strikes landed at 35-21 but significant strikes landed are 21-11 for Aliev. Aliev with the first punch combo of the round and then goes to the cage clinch at 1:15. Aliev gets a takedown at 1:30. Nakamura lands punches to the head as he tries to get to his feet. Nakamura with elbows to the head and then a Kimura attempt but Aliev escapes and then takes the back. Aliev with a neck crank at 2:30 but Nakamura escapes and to his feet at 2:45. Aliev still controlling the clinch. Separation at 3:30. Aliev looking a bit tired but should have the fight in hand if he doesn't get finished. Nakamura with a nice punch combo at 4:15. 10-9 Aliev, 30-27 overall

> Movsar Evloev (10-0, 0-0 UFC) vs. SeungWoo Choi (7-1, 0-0 UFC)
Featherweights

Evloev lands the first nice shot of the fight at 1:15 after both guys feeling each other out. Choi lands a nice knee to the head immediately after. Evloev with a takedown at 1:45. Evloev quickly into side control. Evloev with knees ot the body. Choi works him back to guard. Choi landing light punches from his back. Evloev landing punches to the head and body from the top. More punches to the body and head from Evloev as he maintains top position. Choi to his feet at 4:15 but Evloev still controlling his body. Evloev with knees to the head from the clinch. Evloev with another takedown at 4:45 but Choi right up. Evloev gets him down again and lands some punches as the round ends. 10-9 Evloev

Choi lands the first punch combo of the round but Evloev moves in for a takedown. Choi defends it but Evloev landing punches while he controls the cage clinch. Significant strikes so far are 44-7 for Evloev. Choi bleeding from the nose. Evloev gets him down and takes the back at 1:45. Choi works him around to the front and landing hard elbows to the head but Evloev takes him down. Choi has him tied up with a body lock but Evloev still landing punches to the head and body. Evloev takes the back at 3:15. Evloev lands an illegal knee to the head and the ref docks a point. It was as blatant as you'll ever see but Evloev still acted like he thought it was legal. He even stopped to ask the ref, who is Russian, before throwing it. Evloev back to the clinch and controlling the back of Choi, landing punches to the head. 9-9 round with the point deduction. 19-18 Evloev overall

> Krzysztof Jotko (19-4, 6-4 UFC) vs. Alen Amedovski (8-0, 0-0 UFC)
Middleweights

Amedovski pushing the pace early but neither guy landing much as they are keeping apart. Jotko gets a takedown at 1:45. Amedovski with a choke attempt from his back but Jotko escapes. Jotko takes the back and secures a body lock. Amedovski sweeps into top position and landing hard elbows to the head. Amedovski then stands up and forces Jotko up. Jotko stuns Amedovski with a spinning elbow at 3:00. Jotko follows up with a takedown at 3:15 and moves right into side control. Jotko into mount at 3:45 but Amedovski works him back to guard. Jotko landing elbows to the head as the round ends. 10-9 Jotko

Slow start to round 2, similar to the first. Jotko gets a takedown at 1:15 and moves right into side control. Jotko with elbows to the head as he maintains the position. Jotko mixing in punches as well  and Amedovski can't do a thing from his back. Jotko with top control in 5 of the first 9 minutes. Amedovski with a huge cut around his right eye and eatinga ton of punches and elbows. Amedovski looks helpless but the ref doesn't stop it. 10-8 Jotko, 20-17

Amedovski controlling the pace early in round 3. Jotko with a takedown at 1:30. Jotko with punches to the body and elbows to the head. Jotko into half guard and continuing to land punches and elbows to the head and body. Total strikes are 104-8 for Jotko. Jotko into side control at 3:30. The cut around Amedovski's eye is bleeding pretty heavily again. 9 out of 14 minutes of top control for Jotko. Jotko continuing to land punches and elbows to the head but stands up with 10 seconds left and raises his arms in celebration. 10-8 Jotko, 30-25

This was the last fight on Jotko's contract and he asked them to give him another deal because "This is my house", which got no reaction. He was very happy and did a spinaroonie after the fight to celebrate. 

> Roxanne Modafferi (#7, 22-15, 1-3 UFC) vs. Antonina Shevchenko (#12, 7-0, 1-0 UFC)
Women's Flyweights

Modafferi controlling the pace early with each lady keeping a safe distance from each other. Shevchenko lands a punch combo at 1:15. Modafferi with cuts opened up early under her left eye. Shevchenko also mixing in leg kicks with the punches. Modafferi missing on most of her punches and eating counter punches almost every time she throws something. Modafferi controlling a cage clinch at 3:15. Modafferi gets her down at 3:45. Shevchenko to her feet at 4:15 without taking much damage. Modafferi takes her down again at 4:30. Modafferi into mount at 4:45 and landing punches and elbows to the head. Close round, 10-9 Modafferi

Shevchenko with a nice punch combo 30 seconds in. Modafferi still pressing forward. Modafferi eating a lot of punches on the feet as Shevchenko with a 22-9 advantage in distance strikes landed. Modafferi goes to the cage clinch at 1:15. Modafferi gets her down at 2:15. Modafferi stands up at 3:15 but Shevchenko stays on her back. Modafferi back into her guard at 3:30. Shevchenko with a triangle attempt from her back and landing a few nice hammer fists. Modafferi with a 43-41 advantage in total strikes landed to this point. Shevchenko had an advantage in signifcant strikes landed though. Modafferi landing elbows to the head as he she tries to advance position. 10-9 Modafferi, 20-18 overall

Modafferi's corner said she was probably up two rounds but it could be 1-1 so she needed to stay aggressive. Shevchenko again landing a lot on the feet early and the crowd is rallying behind her. Modafferi gets a takedown 45 seconds in. Modafferi controlling the back. Shevchenko with elbows to the head and then reverses position to end up on top. Shevchenko with punches to the body and head but Modafferi tying her up with a body lock. Modafferi reverses position and ends up in mount at 2:15. Modafferi landing punches and elbows to the head but they don't have a ton of power behind them. Shevchenko reverses again at 3:15. Modafferi to her feet but Shevchenko controlling the clinch. Modafferi takes control at 3:30. Shevchenko lands some nice knees to the head while defending a takedown attempt. Modafferi gets her down at 4:45. 10-9 Modafferi, 30-27 overall

The one judge who scored it for Shevchenko was Russian, for the record. And the crowd booed the decision heavily. Modafferi answered the first question in Russian and then translated herself, basically putting over the city. She then thanked her team for preparing her for the fight. She also jokingly called out Cyborg for her next fight. 

> Sergey Pavlovich (12-1, 0-1 UFC) vs. Marcelo Golm (6-2, 1-2 UFC)
Heavyweights

Both throwing hard shots early and landing so this might not last long. Pavlovich lands a great combo 45 seconds in and the crowd explodes. Golm hurt by a combo and he's down and the ref steps in to stop it before Pavlovich can land any ground strikes.

> Islam Makhachev (16-1, 5-1 UFC) vs. Arman Tsarukyan (13-1, 0-0 UFC)
Lightweights

Arman slips while throwing a strike and Islam tries to take advantage with a takedown attempt but Arman defends it well and ends up in control of a cage clinch. Arman gets control at 1:30. Neither guy landing much in the way of strikes. Islam gets a takedown at 2:00 and landing punches to the face. Crowd with loud ISLAM chants. Arman gets to his feet but Islam holding a front choke and drags him down. Arman reverses and gets to his feet and now he's got a guillotine choke. Islam escapes and he's in control of the cage clinch. Arman takes the back standing and manages to take him down, the first time Islam has been taken down in his career. Islam up quickly but Arman still controlling the clinch. 10-9 Makhachev but close 

Islam lands a head kick early. Islam sprawls to defend a takedown and has a front choke briefly. Arman escapes and lands nice punches on the way out. They clinch in the center and fight for control at 2:00. Both trade knees to the body as the crowd chants for Islam continue. Islam controlling the back at 2:45. Islam takes him down at 3:00 but Arman has a Kimura from his back. Arman manages to get to his feet and in control of a cage clinch at 4:00. Islam sprawls to escape and lands elbows to the head. Islam with a 37-27 advantage in total strikes landed and he's got 2 takedowns to 1. 10-9 Makhachev, 20-18 overall

Both guys throwing more strikes to start round 3. Arman with a nice punch/kick combo and Islam follows up with a head kick. Arman with a takedown attempt but Islam sprawls out and lands some strikes. Islam takes it to the cage and controlling the clinch at 2:00. They separate on their own at 2:15. Islam sprawls out of another takedown attempt at 2:30 and again controlling a cage clinch. Islam gets a takedown at 2:45. Arman to his feet at 3:15 without taking any damage. Islam controlling the clinch again. Islam takes him down again at 4:00. Islam landing punches to the body and head as he continues to hold Arman down. 10-9 Makhachev, 30-27 overall

Oleinik pulls guard immediately. Oleinik goes to his feet after Overeem tries to take his back. Overeen nails him with a head kick on the way up. Oleinik with a punch combo and all over Overeem with punches. Overeem blocks most of them but Oleinik ends up in control of a cage clinch. Quick separation. Overeem with a knee to the body but Oleinik fires back with punches to the body. Oleinik with more punches to the head but Overeem blocking a lot of them. Oleinik throwing bombs with fight ending intentions but missing so he goes to the cage clinch. Overeem with hard knees to the body and punches to the head. Oleinik with punches to the body. Total strikes are 46-5 for Oleinik. More punches to the body by Oleinik. Overeem with a copule of knees to the body and head. Back to the clinch and Oleinik landing more punches. Overeem with a series of knees to the head. Oleinik down and Overeem takes his back. Overeem with hard punches to the head and Oleinik not defending himself so the ref stops it.

Overeem said it was a pleasure to fight in Russia for the first time and he'd like to fight there again. He also said he wanted a fight with Alexander Volkov, who he was originally supposed to fight here. 

Oleinik was interviewed as well. He took this fight on short notice and he'd like to have another fight soon with more time to prepare.
