WWE SmackDown numbers hold up well in overnight ratings

With the major networks back to running mostly original programming, SmackDown's overnight ratings held up relatively well this week. Last night's SmackDown averaged 2.142 million viewers on Fox, down three percent from last Friday's overnight number.

It was the lowest out of all the network shows in terms of overall viewers, but the major demo numbers told a better story.

In the 18-34 demo, SmackDown averaged the same 0.4 overnight rating it did last week, which was the best number since April in that category. That tied ABC's Shark Tank for the top spot on the network charts.

In 18-49, SmackDown did a 0.6 rating, down 7.7 percent from last week's overnight number. That beat out everything on the networks except Shark Tank.

After a significant drop from hour one to hour two last week, the individual hours for last night's show had a similar pattern to what SmackDown normally does. Hour one averaged 2.111 million viewers, growing three percent to 2.172 million for the second hour.

The year-over-year numbers held up very well as compared to other wrestling programming recently. Overnight viewership was down 8.9 percent from this week last year. The number in the 18-34 demo was identical to last year, while the 18-49 number was down 14.3 percent.
