WWE SmackDown viewership down, 18-49 number steady

The return of the NBA seems to have taken a hit on SmackDown ratings as overnight viewership for the show on Fox was down four percent from last week, averaging 1.892 million viewers. It's the second lowest overnight number for SmackDown on Fox since debuting last October.

The numbers in the key demos held up, though, as the show had a 0.3 rating in the 18-34 category, which topped all of network TV. That was up 20 percent from last week.

In 18-49, SmackDown averaged a 0.5, the same number as last week and tied for first place on the networks. It was actually the third time in the last four weeks SmackDown hit that mark.

Total viewership was last among the networks, but SmackDown was closer to the competition than it is most weeks with sports in the form of MLB, NBA, and MLS on cable TV. With the NHL set to resume tomorrow the competition isn't going to get lighter any time soon.

One good sign for SmackDown was that the audience grew from hour one to hour two, which is very unusual for a wrestling show in 2020. The first hour opened at 1.873 million and the show increased to 1.911 million in the second hour.

Here's a look at the overnight viewership and key demo ratings for SmackDown over the last 10 weeks:
