The grudge between Aleister Black and Johnny Gargano continues to attract the attention of NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa. Gargano was able to defeat Black in a cage match with help from his former DIY tag team partner.

Black and Gargano facing off in a cage headlined as the main event on episode #483 of NXT. The conclusion would tease the reunion of DIY. Likewise, Ciampa cost Black a match ahead of their title bout at TakeOver. The plot thickens.

The show opened with the in-ring debut on NXT television of Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir.

Io Shirai & Dakota Kai defeated Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir

Shirai pinned Shafir with a moonsault press. Duke and Shafir bullied Kai in the match until Shirai cleaned house to defeat them.

Duke shot in at the outset. Moments later, Kai was getting the better of Duke when Shafir delivered an illegal cheap shot from the apron to turn the tide. The Horsewomen proverbially cut the ring in half as they got heat on Kai. They manhandled her -- but Kai kept kicking out.

Kai eventually countered with a kick to create space for her to crawl over to make a hot tag. Shirai ran wild with a dropkick and forearm smashes. A springboard missile dropkick by Shirai led into running double knees in a corner.

Shirai began to climb the ropes when Shafir jumped on the apron. Kai ran across the ring to knock Duke off the apron with a kick. Shirai then moonsaulted into a lateral press on Shafir for the pinfall.

Later in the show, a tweet by William Regal announced Shirai as another participant in next week's fatal four-way to determine a number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship.

Reporters in an interview asked Matt Riddle about Kassius Ohno knocking him out with a cheap shot roaring elbow several weeks ago. Riddle said he is “not really happy about it.” Riddle went on to say he cannot blame Ohno for attacking him after getting beaten in seconds at TakeOver. Riddle concluded by saying he would knock him out again in seconds...bro.

Dominik Dijakovic defeated Aaron Mackey

Dijakovic pinned Mackey in a complete squash. Mackey charged at Dijakovic at the start, and that was all the offense he got. Dijakovic blocked his punch and proceeded to maul him.

Mackey kept getting mowed down and ragdolled around the ring. Dijakovic executed his finisher after yelling “Feast your eyes!”

A Heavy Machinery vignette was pure gold. Personally, the music video montages reminded me of hype videos seen on Memphis studio wrestling a long time ago in a galaxy far away. The only thing missing was an introduction by Lance Russell. Despite that, this was still great.

Heavy Machinery defeated an enhancement team

Otis Dozovic and Tucker Knight squashed two jobbers. Undisputed Era appeared on the entrance ramp to taunt Heavy Machinery during the match. That only served to fuel them. Heavy Machinery delivered two Compactors to each of the job guys. They then executed a double Compactor to score the pinfall.

Johnny Gargano defeated Aleister Black in a steel cage match

Gargano pinned Black after interference by Ciampa. Doing a takeoff of Terry Gordy slamming the cage door on Kerry Von Erich, Ciampa slammed the cage door on Black as he and Gargano were headed for a photo finish. Gargano and Ciampa then teamed up to take out Black.

Gargano and Black brawled outside the cage before the bell rang. Black was pummeling Gargano around ringside before shoving him inside the cage. Gargano immediately tried to escape as he rushed to climb out -- but Black corralled him.

Black cleaned house inside the cage, while Gargano kept trying to escape. Gargano crotched Black on the top rope to turn the tide. Gargano worked over Black for a few minutes. He went to catapult Black, and Black landed on the top rope like Spider-Man. Black then did a moonsault on Gargano.

Black was climbing out of the cage when he had second thoughts. One of his legs was already dangling over the edge of the cage when Black decided to administer more of a beatdown on Gargano. Black jumped back into the ring -- only for Gargano to sidestep a charge. Black crashed into the cage, and Gargano tried once again to escape.

Black stopped him from fleeing, and they fought standing on the top rope. Gargano did a sunset flip into an avalanche powerbomb. Black kicked out after Gargano crawled over to drape an arm over him.

They traded strikes in an exchange of fighting spirit. Gargano landed a superkick -- only to catch a running knee strike. Black was hitting knee strikes when the cage door flung open. Black almost knocked Gargano out of the cage, but Black grabbed a foot to drag Gargano back inside the ring.

They once again fought while perched on the top rope. Gargano sent them careening to the mat with an avalanche Russian leg sweep. Upon impact, Gargano transitioned into the Gargano Escape. Black deadlifted him with Gargano still latched on his arm. Black smashed Gargano into the cage, and Gargano caught himself.

Gargano tried to scurry out of the cage -- only to get caught. Black shoved Gargano down and followed with a meteora. A German suplex with a bridge got Black a two count.

Black was crotched again by Gargano. A superkick first and then a snake eyes on Black had him reeling. Gargano was measuring Black when Black out of nowhere hit Gargano with Black Mass. A double down led into them each crawling to their feet trying to escape the cage.

Gargano was climbing out over the top of the cage while Black reached and pawed a path towards the door. Ciampa appeared at ringside, and he slammed the cage door on Black. Meanwhile, Gargano crawled back into the cage to confront his partner-turned-rival.

Ciampa and Gargano had a staredown from opposite sides of the ring. The crowd chanted “DIY” before the former tag partners hit Black with double team strikes. Gargano looked in somewhat disbelief about his own actions.

Ciampa smirked and left the cage. Gargano covered Black for a three count as a smiling Ciampa clapped his approval. Gargano showed no signs of remorse.
