The finals are set for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic as plots thickened in several storylines on the latest episode of NXT. DIY imploded following a semifinal loss to Ricochet & Aleister Black. The Forgotten Sons advanced to the finals following a heated match against Moustache Mountain.

Ricochet & Black meet The Forgotten Sons in the tournament finals in two weeks time.

Meanwhile, NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler interfered to attack two of her prospective challengers -- Io Shirai and Bianca Belair -- during a number one contender’s match.

The show opened with the first semifinal match in the Dusty Classic.

The Forgotten Sons (Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake w/ Jaxson Ryker) defeated Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate & Trent Seven) to advance to the Dusty Classic finals

Cutler pinned Seven in the semifinal match. The Sons kicked it up a notch as they looked strong in a good match. They worked over Bate early on until Seven tagged in. Seven was cleaning house when Cutler took out his leg with a chop block. On commentary, Mauro Ranallo mentioned that Seven had existing issues with the leg in the past.

Targeting the leg, The Sons punished Seven. Blake applied the Famous Funk Spinning Toe Hold -- only to have Seven counter with a small package for a two count. Blake then applied a figure four leglock, and Seven fought to reverse the hold. Blake got a rope break after a reversal.

Cutler tagged in trying to maintain his team’s advantage, but he and Seven clotheslined each other for a double down. Anticipation built as Seven finally made a tag. Bate ran wild on The Sons. In the midst of running wild, Bate picked up both Sons for a double fireman’s carry. He then proceeded to airplane spin both of them in a feat of strength.

Bate executed a double Frankensteiner before he missed a Shooting Star Press. He recovered to deliver a neckbreaker. Bate then leapt off the top rope with a corkscrew senton. With a double team, Moustache Mountain delivered a combination of a lariat into a dragon suplex.

Ryker interfered to break up a pin. That led to Bate hitting a tope suicida. Moustache Mountain went for their finisher -- but it was to no avail. Ryker interfered again to clothesline Bate on the floor. The Sons set up Seven for their foot stomp/slop drop finisher. Cutler then covered Seven for the pinfall.

Cathy Kelley was interviewing Matt Riddle when Adam Cole interrupted them. Cole -- of course -- wanted to talk about himself wanting the North American Championship. Riddle suggested that they continue the discussion in the ring.

Bianca Belair vs. Io Shirai in a number one contender’s match ended in a no contest

Shayna Baszler was on commentary and jumped into the match to attack both wrestlers -- leading to a no contest.

Belair at the outset locked in a full nelson, but Shirai escaped to begin a series of high spots. Shirai sent Belair outside with a dropkick. On the floor, Shirai tried to follow up -- but Belair caught her and dropped her on the ring steps.

Belair got a two count -- and then she taunted Shirai. Belair briefly got heat on Shirai and hit a standing moonsault for another two count. Shirai began a comeback with a double stomp. She soon set up a 619 and had Belair reeling. A springboard missile dropkick was followed by running knees in a corner. Shirai climbed the turnbuckles and Belair cut her off.

With Shirai tied in the tree-of-woe, Belair whipped her with her long braid. Belair tried climbing the turnbuckles -- only for Shirai to cut her off. A super Frankensteiner by Shirai led into her trying another high-risk move.

Shirai's moonsault off the top failed when Belair got her knees up to block it. Baszler suddenly left the announce desk -- and she pulled Shirai out of the ring. Baszler then attacked Belair and applied a rear naked choke.

Kairi Sane ran in to make a save, but Baszler caught her in a choke. Shirai jumped into the ring to save her tag partner. A running knee led to Shirai throwing Baszler out of the ring. Baszler would not be stopped so easily. Shirai went to check on Sane -- and Baszler grabbed her to apply another choke. Before the dust settled, Baszler had choked out all three.

This all sets up a fatal four-way at TakeOver: New York with Baszler defending her title against Shirai, Belair, and Sane.

Ricochet & Aleister Black defeated DIY (NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano) to advance to the Dusty Classic finals

Ricochet pinned Ciampa in a helluva match that saw the implosion of DIY.

Black and Ciampa started the match, which was action packed and fast paced. Ricochet tagged in -- only to get wiped out with a kick. Gargano tagged in for a series of high spots with Ricochet. Black soon joined and he and Ricochet cleared the ring. Then they launched into their double pose routine (as seen on the main roster).

Ciampa caused a distraction that allowed Gargano to connect with a slingshot spear on Ricochet. That set up the heat spot. Gargano hit a neckbreaker for a two count. DIY began working over Ricochet. Ciampa taunted Black by mocking his cross-legged pose.

Ricochet eventually cut off DIY with a neckbreaker and DDT combination. Black came in off a hot tag like a house of fire. Black executed an Asai moonsault to the floor. Gargano attempted another slingshot spear -- but this time Black wiped him out with a knee strike.

Black delivered a brainbuster and covered Gargano. Ciampa broke up the pin -- and a melee soon erupted. Everybody got involved for a series of rapid high spots. Black was on the turnbuckles when Ciampa cut him off to deliver a draping cutter on the apron.

Gargano used his slingshot DDT for a near fall. Black found himself trapped in the Gargano Escape. Ricochet went to make a save, but Ciampa cut him off to apply an armbar. Ricochet powered out to pick Ciampa up for a DVD onto Gargano -- thus breaking the Escape that was locked on Black.

Gargano started to sell his leg. Grimacing in pain, Gargano crawled over to tag out. Ciampa rolled outside to check on Gargano. Ciampa got back in the ring for a fighting spirit exchange with Ricochet. That led to a double down.

Needing to tag out, Ciampa crawled towards his corner -- but Gargano was still down selling his leg. In the meantime, Black tagged in. He countered a worn down Ciampa to deliver the Black Mass. Ricochet tagged back in and leapt off the top for his 630. He then covered Ciampa for the pinfall.

The DIY melodrama then played out as Candice LeRae came down to ringside to check on her husband. Ciampa came over to help Gargano to his feet. Despite losing, everyone seemed on the same page as they left up the ramp.

Gargano stumbled and fell when they reached the stage. Ciampa began to lift him up -- but Ciampa instead tried to throw him into the LED grid. Gargano countered using his supposed bad wheel -- and Gargano sent Ciampa crashing into the grid. Gargano followed with a punt to Ciampa’s head.

Gargano stood tall with his wife by his side for a cliffhanger ending. Was he faking the injury? Time will tell. DIY looked done either way as the show closed.
