The finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic saw Aleister Black & Ricochet win the tournament and earn a Tag Team title match against War Raiders at TakeOver: New York.

Elsewhere on the show, Shayna Baszler and the Horsewomen once again make their presence felt. Matt Riddle also confronted Velveteen Dream after a showcase match.

The show opened with Adam Cole in street clothes coming to the ring for a promo. The NXT Championship belt sat on a pedestal in the middle of the ring. Cole said he could give a million reasons why he is winning the title at TakeOver. But first, he wanted to call out Johnny Gargano.

When they faced off in the ring, the crowd started loud dueling chants of “Johnny Wrestling/Adam Cole.” They seemingly chanted for days. Cole heeled on the crowd to get them to stop. Gargano said he loves the chants -- so the chants started again. Gargano eventually silenced the fans.

Gargano dared Cole to list all the reasons he will beat him at TakeOver. Cole just stared at him. Gargano said Cole was at a loss for words for the first time. Gargano then cut a promo saying his path still leads to him holding the NXT title. Cole will meet “Johnny Takeover -- BAY BAY!”

Cole mocked Gargano, asking if that was supposed to frighten him. Cole pointed out Gargano’s loss record at TakeOvers, and then called him “Johnny Participation.”

Cole touted his winning record at TakeOver. Gargano’s reply was to tell his underdog story of making it to WWE. He was told no many times, but he didn’t take no for an answer. He teamed with Tommaso Ciampa by chance as they scratched and clawed their way to spots on the roster.

Gargano went full babyface while saying he fights for everyone who was told they could not make it. He insists he earned all of his accomplishments. He has earned everything because this is his life. Gargano said he earned everything without being handed a top spot -- nor did he have cronies to fight battles for him.

Gargano concluded by vowing to win the NXT title. Cole left the ring and sauntered away -- but before heading up the ramp, he then turned so he could get in the last word. Cole mocked Gargano’s inspirational story, and wondered if he was watching a Lifetime movie.

Fight all he wants, but Cole vowed to Gargano that Cole would be the next NXT Champion. Cole motioned behind him in reference to the reason he was winning.

The other three members of Undisputed Era walked to the stage, indicating that they were Cole’s backup. Cole used a play on words to conclude the promo with an “Undisputed” tagline, and then he smirked as Undisputed Era posed.

Vanessa Borne & Aliyah vs. Lacey Lane & Kacy Catanzaro ended with a non-finish when the Horsewomen attacked

NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler and her cohorts again stopped a match in progress with a beatdown. This was Lane’s debut on NXT TV, and Mauro Ranallo on commentary mentioned her sports background. He did not however mention her lucha libre background, but she showcased that in the ring. Borne and Aliyah cut her off and began to work her over. That was until the Horsewomen arrived to wreck shop.

They attacked in a massacre -- but not without Catanzaro putting up a fight. Baszler caught Catanzaro in a choke. She escaped to flip and fly -- which only delayed the inevitable. Baszler soon again caught Catanzaro to choke her out.

Baszler held the title high above her head before she and her charges sauntered away. They paused and stalked their way to the announce booth. Baszler said beatdowns like that would keep happening so long as the company continues to mistreat its champion.

Matt Riddle defeated Kona Reeves

Riddle submitted Reeves despite a distraction by Velveteen Dream. It was said on commentary that Reeves got some advice from Don Muraco. That did not help him here -- or did it? He begged off at the outset to bait Riddle in for a sucker punch. Reeves taunted Riddle.

Riddle countered a fireman’s carry to execute a running senton. Suddenly, the lights dimmed as Dream’s entrance theme played. Dream rolled to the stage while lounging on a couch that was wheeled into place by two women. He sipped from a chalice and stroked his North American Championship belt.

A distracted Riddle found himself being suplexed for a near fall. Reeves applied the Kona Clutch. Riddle soon escaped to deliver a series of strikes. A ripcord knee led to Riddle raining down elbow strikes. Reeves tapped out when Riddle applied the Bromission.

Dream cut off the ring announcer so that Dream himself could announce Riddle as the winner. Riddle strolled up the ramp to confront Dream, who was still seated on a couch drinking from his chalice.

Riddle grabbed the cup and took a sip. He spat it out and tossed the chalice over his shoulder. Riddle then told Dream that he would see him at TakeOver…bro.

Aleister Black & Ricochet defeated The Forgotten Sons (Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler w/ Jaxson Ryker) in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic finals

Ricochet pinned Blake with a 630 senton bomb. This was fast paced when the babyfaces had the advantage. Ricochet flew around with dazzling high spots. He went for a handspring and Ryker interfered with a shot to Ricochet’s back. That set up the heat spot as The Sons worked over the back.

Black was eventually able to get a hot tag. He cleaned house. Black & Ricochet are becoming a great team with good chemistry. There were some wild spots that words would not do justice. Ricochet is unreal.

Ryker tried to interfere again, but the referee caught him. Black countered to tag out. The Black Mass hit Blake. Black blocked Cutler from jumping in, then Ricochet leapt off the top with a 630 bomb for the pinfall.

Black & Ricochet win the Dusty Classic. NXT Tag Team Champions War Raiders marched to the ring to go face-to-face with their TakeOver challengers.
