WWE NXT results: Johnny Gargano vs. Roderick Strong

A rift continues to divide Undisputed Era after Roderick Strong lost to NXT Champion Johnny Gargano in the main event of this week's episode of NXT. An errant kick by Adam Cole cost Strong the match as dissension seemingly consumes the heel faction.

During the show, Kassius Ohno was named as the opponent for KUSHIDA's debut match on the next episode.

War Raiders were on the episode billed under their NXT monikers in a match against The Street Profits. In another tag team match, Candice LeRae got to shine. A singles match in the opener also resulted in a melee among tag teams.

The show itself opened with the entrance of the Forgotten Sons.

Humberto Carrillo vs. Jaxson Ryker (w/ Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake) ended in a double countout

At least I think it was a countout. The finish could also be a disqualification. A melee erupted and chaos ensued, so the official ruling was unclear. Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch ran in to make a save after the bell.

Ryker mauled Carrillo at the outset. Carrillo made a comeback and knocked down Ryker with a Disaster Kick. An angry Ryker gave chase as he and Carrillo played cat-and-mouse. Ryker went down again after taking a handspring back elbow. Carrillo followed with a standing moonsault.

Ryker seethed with anger as he exploded with rage, and he proceeded to punish Carrillo. Ryker delivered The Widowmaker (chokeslam into a sit-out powerbomb), but Carrillo rolled outside.

Ryker went out after him to continue the beatdown. Ryker threw Carrillo into the guardrail and rammed him into the ring apron -- while also raining down blows. Ryker tossed Carrillo over a guardrail. He then threw knee strikes until the referee called for the bell.

Lorcan and Burch ran down to save Carrillo from the onslaught. Lorcan and Burch grabbed chairs to fend off the Forgotten Sons. Ryker glared an icy stare at them as Cutler and Blake steered him away.

Adam Cole was doing a photoshoot when he was interviewed about the main event later on. Matt Riddle interrupted Cole as Riddle smirked off-camera. Riddle claimed Cole was jealous of Roderick Strong. Cole said he had better things to do, and he stormed off.

Candice LeRae & Kacy Catanzaro defeated Vanessa Borne & Aliyah

LeRae pinned Borne using a lionsault. LeRae cleaned house after a hot tag. Catanzaro started the match with Aliyah, and the babyface soon countered the heel. Catanzaro used a headscissors takeover, then she also flipped into an ax kick. The heels cut her off for the heat spot, and they cheated a little along the way.

Catanzaro countered a double suplex into a double neckbreaker, which allowed the separation for a her to make a tag. LeRae showed fire as she ran wild. A senton led to a lionsault for the pinfall.

Cathy Kelley interviewed Io Shirai about the angle where Shayna Baszler and company attacked Kairi Sane at the end of last week's episode. Shirai said what they did was terrible. Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir then jumped Shirai from behind for a beatdown.

A vignette teased the arrival of KUSHIDA. In a skit with William Regal, Kassius Ohno said he wants to face KUSHIDA in his debut match. Later in the show, Ohno vs. KUSHIDA was confirmed for next week.

NXT Tag Team Champions War Raiders defeated The Street Profits in a non-title match

Ford was pinned after taking Thor’s Hammer. War Raiders were billed as just that instead of their “Viking Raiders” name on Raw. They were also still holding the tag straps.

Ford launched into a tope con giro on the War Raiders to surprise them before the bell. Dawkins delivered a spinebuster as a set up for Ford to leap high off the top rope for a frog splash on Rowe. The crowd gasped on a near fall right out of the gates. The Profits were soon cut off, and Hanson threw a haymaker lariat to totally turn the tide.

War Raiders pummeled Dawkins until Ford was able to tag back in. He slugged it out with Hanson before delivering a huge belly-to-back suplex. The Profits both hit 360 Stinger splashes. Dawkins assisted Ford in executing Sliced Bread for a near fall on Hanson. The Profits were soon cut off again to experience a Viking raid.

Rowe held Dawkins for Hanson to springboard into a Hart Attack. War Raiders then teamed up on Ford to execute their finisher -- Thor’s Hammer -- for the pinfall.

In a media scrum, Mia Yim talked about NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler. She called out Bianca Belair for having lost to Baszler. Yim said she learned a lot after losing to Baszler, and Yim says she deserves another title shot.

NXT Champion Johnny Gargano defeated Roderick Strong in a non-title match

Gargano pinned Strong after a slingshot DDT. Interference from Cole backfired to further dissension within Undisputed Era. Strong showed fire and aggression, but was not overtly heelish other than him playing the antagonist in the match. Cheating then cost him the match, furthering seeds of a possible turn down the road.

They grappled at the outset with chain wrestling and several counters. That would set the stage for the rest of the match.

Strong powdered to regroup -- only for Gargano to toss him back outside a moment later. Strong managed to catch Gargano on a baseball slide. Strong then dumped him on the apron with a falling backbreaker.

Strong worked over Gargano before he began targeting the back. He applied submission holds on Gargano, including a modified Gory Special.

Gargano countered the Gory Special to arm drag Strong, creating a moment of hope. Gargano then fired up into a comeback. Strong dragged Gargano out of the ring, where Gargano countered a wheelbarrow to send Strong crashing into the ring steps.

Back in the ring, a slingshot spear netted Gargano a near fall. They each countered big moves. Gargano then caught Strong with a cannonball senton off the apron. The crowd chanted “Johnny” during a double down on the floor.

Gargano hit a superkick for a two count. The crowd chanted “NXT” before also chanting “welcome back” at Gargano as he chopped down Strong. A series of intricate counters by both led to Strong blocking a slingshot spear. With Gargano draped on the middle rope, Strong lifted him for a butterfly suplex into a backbreaker. Gargano still managed to kick out at two.

They clobbered each other in exchanges of fighting spirit. A combination that led to suplexes and a gutbuster by Strong resulted in another near fall.

Gargano fought to escape an attempted Boston crab. He transitioned into applying his crossface finisher. Cole ran down to cause a distraction. Gargano broke the hold and argued with Cole. Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly entered the scene, followed by Matt Riddle.

A brawl ensued at ringside with Riddle dispatching Fish and O’Reilly. Cole punched Riddle and turned around to throw a kick at who he thought was Gargano. Cole instead kicked Strong. Gargano flew through the ropes to wipe out Cole with a tope. Gargano then executed a slingshot DDT on Strong for the pinfall.

Strong afterwards wanted nothing to do with Undisputed Era as the plot thickens in the saga of the heel faction.
