WWE NXT results: Sasha Banks & Bayley return

Tag teams returned in more ways than one on the latest episode of NXT. One team made a triumphant return to NXT, while another team agreed to reconcile so that they may return to triumph.

NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler met Mia Yim in a non-title match in the main event of this week's episode. Besides that singles match and another where Keith Lee collided with Dominik Dijakovic, much of the focus was on tag teams.

Newly-crowned WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks & Bayley returned to NXT, making a surprise appearance at Full Sail. They vowed to defend their titles everywhere, including on the NXT brand.

An announcement during the show revealed more participants entered in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. An official bracket also announced future matchups in the upcoming tournament. An angle in the opening segment led to one team reuniting for the Dusty Classic.

The show opened with Johnny Gargano doing an in-ring promo addressing the events of the past few weeks. He looked happy for a guy who lost a title, but he also debuted on the main roster -- so there is that. He discussed both.

Velveteen Dream defeated Gargano to win the NXT North American Championship on the previous episode. Gargano called it “one of the toughest matches of my career.” Speaking to the audience, he added that “we” introduced everyone to “Johnny Champion,” but he failed in his first title defense.

The crowd chanted “Johnny Failure” as Gargano admitted he failed the fans. He still feels like a champion, yet he has no title. Gargano said he has “come to realize” -- before he trailed off when NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa interrupted the speech.

The crowd chanted for Ciampa. “Save it,” barked Ciampa.

Ciampa said they win together whenever they team up in the ring. Last week he offered to help, but Gargano declined the offer. Then Gargano lost -- but that is not necessarily a bad thing according to Ciampa.

“We need each other,” Ciampa said to Gargano.

Ciampa went on to brag about holding his title before he again pointed out that Gargano had no title. Ciampa concluded that the solution was them teaming up in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Winning the tournament would lead to them challenging for the NXT Tag Team titles at TakeOver: New York. Ciampa said that could be their moment as he tried to convince Gargano to team with him.

The crowd chanted “D-I-Y” before they shook hands. That settled it. #DIY is back for the Dusty Classic.

Later in the show, Gargano saw his wife -- Candice LeRae -- outside the building. She was beyond pissed at her husband. LeRae was so angry she could hardly speak to Gargano except to say, “I hope you know what you are doing.” She then stormed off.

Cathy Kelley interviewed Ricochet, who looked dapper in a suit with a bowtie. Ricochet talked about having unfinished business with Undisputed Era. He cannot fight them alone. He vowed to enter the Dusty Classic with his new tag team partner -- Aleister Black.

Vanessa Borne & Aliyah defeated Taynara Conti & Xia Li

Borne pinned Li after a double-team neckbreaker/backbreaker combination. Conti had Borne scrambling at the outset. Conti fought with Aliyah outside the ring, and Aliyah held onto her leg as Conti tried to re-enter the ring. That allowed Borne to gain an underhanded advantage.

They worked over Conti, including doing a double Northern Lights suplex. Conti eventually made a hot tag. Li cleaned house with kicks before doing a super leapfrog. Aliyah was rolled up with an O’Connor Roll by Li, but Borne made a blind tag. Borne and Aliyah executed a double-team combo on Li to get the win

Velveteen Dream was coming into the building when he was approached by the four members of Undisputed Era. Adam Cole bullied Dream as the others made smart aleck remarks. Cole scolded the camera crew for not interviewing him.

Dream said Cole had “such a big mouth for such a little man.” Dream remarked that Cole does not run his mouth as much without his stablemates with him. Dream dismissed them by saying he had no time for “you boys,” which made the Undisputed Era quite upset. Dream sauntered away as the heels huffed and puffed.

Kelley stood outside the office of William Regal as she began reporting on recent developments. Suddenly, a ruckus in the hallway caused the camera to pan over to Bianca Belair and Io Shirai yelling at each other.

They were pulled apart and separated, with this setting up a match between the two. A tweet from Regal announced Belair vs. Shirai in a number one contender’s match. That airs in two weeks on NXT. The winner challenges for the NXT Women’s Championship at TakeOver during WrestleMania weekend.

Dominik Dijakovic vs. Keith Lee ended in a double countout

This was like two kaiju monsters fighting each other. Gorilla Monsoon would likely have described them as the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object. Nigel McGuinness referred to Dijakovic as the “Croatian Colossus,” and the crowd loved Keith Lee.

They fought to a stalemate early on in the match. Dijakovic landed on his feet taking a hip toss. Later in the match, Lee landed on his feet while taking a monkey flip. Lee offered to shake hands, but Dijakovic shoved him instead.

They traded chops -- and Dijakovic had Lee reeling as he sold them. Lee soon fought back, then he sent Dijakovic into orbit with a football tackle.

A sit-out chokeslam netted Dijakovic a two count on Lee. Dijakovic jumped off the middle rope only to get chopped down by Lee. Moments later, Lee found himself fighting on the apron.

Dijakovic hit Lee with a tornado kick to knock him off the apron. Dijakovic followed with an Asai moonsault that resulted in Mauro Ranallo doing his “mama mia” catchphrase. Neither could answer the 10 count as the referee counted them both out.

They got back into the ring, teasing to continue the fight. Officials poured into the ring to separate them. “I’ll see you later,” Dijakovic muttered as he was escorted away.

The next segment had the newly-crowned WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions making a triumphant return to NXT. The place erupted as Sasha Banks got a huge pop during her entrance. The also popped for Bayley.

The crowd greeted them with “welcome back” chants. Banks said it was good to be back home. They do not forget where they came from, and their journey to the tag titles began in NXT.

Bayley mentioned the last time they were in NXT was against each other in an Iron Woman match at TakeOver several years ago. They joked about burying the hatchet and becoming friends again.

Bayley said their journey as tag champs has just begun. Their goal is to have the most talked about -- and most sought after -- titles in WWE. They vowed to defend their titles everywhere, including in NXT. They told the roster to step up.

NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler defeated Mia Yim in a non-title match

Baszler submitted Yim using a rear naked choke. They each sold a body part during the match as each looked to exploit the other’s injury. As the bell rang, the crowd chanted for Yim. Baszler responded by flashing a sinister grin.

Baszler got an early takedown, and she tried to rain down strikes from the mount. Yim dodged and Baszler punched the mat. The champ would sell her hand the remainder of the match.

Yim cradled Baszler with an Oklahoma Roll for a two count. Yim flew through the ropes with a tope suicida, then sent Baszler crashing into the ring steps. With Baszler pinned against the steps, Yim threw a combination of kicks. Baszler moved out of the way as Yim kicked the steps. Yim went down clutching her leg.

Baszler targeted Yim’s leg while still selling her own hand injury. Baszler wrenched on the foot as she tortured her. Yim screamed in agony while selling the leg. Baszler smirked before viciously stomping on Yim’s foot.

Baszler applied a rear naked choke, but Yim grabbed the injured hand to help pry herself free. Baszler transitioned into barring the leg. Yim grimaced in pain as she got a rope break.

Still selling the leg, Yim somehow springboarded into a tornado DDT. She was unable to capitalize due to her injury. Yim could not stand, but she managed to roll up Baszler with a schoolboy.

They went on to trade strikes. Out of nowhere, Yim delivered Eat Defeat -- but she was again unable to capitalize. Yim was slow to make a cover, so Baszler kicked out.

Baszler executed a gutwrench Dominator. Yim responded moments later with a sit-out powerbomb for a near fall.

Baszler then caught Yim in the rear naked choke. Yim tried in vain to again target the injured hand in hopes of freeing herself. While still applying the choke, Baszler used her foot to block Yim’s escape -- and Yim soon tapped out.
