WWE SmackDown live results: Final build to Hell in a Cell

SmackDown's go-home show for Hell in a Cell is taking place at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana tonight.

Ahead of their mixed tag match on Sunday, Brie Bella will face Maryse in tonight's main event. Two weeks ago, The Miz and Maryse gave Bryan and Bella a vicious beatdown. Last week, Bryan and Bella gained some revenge when they caused Miz to lose to R-Truth and attacked Miz and Maryse.

Jeff Hardy also takes on United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura in a non-title match tonight. Hardy is set to face Randy Orton in a Hell in a Cell match on Sunday but still has a score to settle with Nakamura. In another non-title match, SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair faces Sonya Deville. Flair defends her title against former best friend Becky Lynch this Sunday night in a highly-anticipated match.

The Bar will also be taking on Rusev Day in a number one contender's match. The winners will challenge SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day at Hell in a Cell. Plus, R-Truth takes on Andrade “Cien” Almas.

SmackDown started with an eleven-bell salute in memory of 9/11.

Jeff Hardy came out for his match against Shinsuke Nakamura. He mentioned that he’s over come many demons in his life and stands in the ring a better man. On Sunday Hardy faces his most venomous opponent. He noted that he’s a daredevil and has no fear. Hardy promises to unleash hell on Randy Orton at Hell in a Cell. First he’s going to take on a recent enemy in Nakamura first. 

Jeff Hardy defeated United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura in a non-title match

Hardy had the early advantage as they fought around ringside. Hardy hit a clothesline jumping off the steps onto Nakamura against the barricade. Nakamura took over and slowed the pace down. Hardy tried to fight back but Nakamura rocked him with a series of knee strikes.

Hardy made a comeback and hit a sling blade. He followed up with whisper in the wind. Nakamura regained control after kicking Hardy off the apron and Hardy crashed into the barricade.

After the commercial break, Hardy was back in control and scored a near fall. Nakamura hit a running knee on the apron and set up for the Kinshasa. Hardy reversed and ended up hitting the twist of fate. Hardy climbed up for the Swanton Bomb but Randy Orton shoved him off.

Orton gave Hardy another vicious beatdown. Orton attacked Hardy with a chair. Orton attempted the RKO but Hardy reversed into the twist of fate. However, Orton fought the attempt off. Hardy beat Orton with the chair and hit the twist of fate. Hardy followed up with the Swanton Bomb.

Backstage, The Miz and Maryse were interviewed. Maryse noted that it took Daniel Bryan three years to comeback and it took her five months after giving birth. Miz pointed out that Brie Bella had to return to make money for the family. Miz promised that Maryse will win tonight and they’ll win at Hell in a Cell.

Earlier today, AJ Styles addressed Samoa Joe from the ring steps of an empty arena. He mentioned how Joe has made this personal and brought his family into this. He mentioned that they’ve been friends for 20 years and he knows a lot about Joe too.

Styles would never mess with another person’s family. Joe has several different strengths but when the bell rings nobody is better than Styles. He’s going to show Joe how Phenomenal AJ is. He’s going to show Joe why this is the house that AJ Styles built and it’s not for rent or sale.

Backstage, Charlotte Flair was interviewed and noted she asked for a match against Sonya Deville because she likes competition. Flair promised to win tonight and on Sunday. She hoped Becky Lynch was watching tonight. 

SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defeated Sonya Deville (w/Mandy Rose) in a non-title match

They did some mat wrestling early and traded pin fall attempts. Deville hit a knee for a near fall. Rose tried to distract Flair but she nailed Deville with a kick. Flair attempted a moonsault but Deville got the knees up. Deville hit a spine buster for a near fall.

Deville caught Flair in a triangle but Flair stood up. She attempted to bounce her off the top rope but missed and grazed the second rope. She dropped Deville down for a near fall. Finish came when Flair applied the Figure Eight for the win.

After the match, Flair was giving high fives around ringside. She took a selfie with two young fans when suddenly another fan attacked her. The fan took off her disguise to reveal Becky Lynch. Lynch got huge pop and a Becky chant. She attacked Flair and applied the Dis-arm-her.

Samoa Joe responded to AJ Styles comments from earlier. He read a storybook called “Night, Night AJ”. It recapped their feud and SummerSlam match. Joe was the hero in the story. It included references to Styles’ family. It ended with Joe as champion and with Styles’ family. This was a very well done video package. 

Backstage, Becky Lynch was leaving the arena. She noted she promised to break Charlotte Flair’s arm and promised to win on Sunday.

Rusev Day (w/Lana) defeated The Bar to earn a SmackDown Tag Team Championship opportunity at Hell in Cell

The New Day joined in on commentary for the match. They had their own orange announce table again. Kofi Kingston threw it to Kramer Kingsmen in the back. Kingsmen (Kofi in disguise) talked about the upcoming match with The Bar in the background.

The Bar was firmly in control early. They isolated Rusev and cut him off from Aiden English. Rusev gave English a backdrop to the floor onto Cesaro and Sheamus. The Bar regained control and isolated English. Sheamus missed a charge in the corner and Rusev got the hot tag.

Rusev locked on The Accolade on Sheamus but Cesaro made the save. The Bar hit a double DDT for a close near fall. Sheamus attempted The Brogue Kick but English pushed Rusev out of the way and took the hit. Rusev then hit the Machka kick on Sheamus for the win.

Andrade “Cien” Almas (w/Zelina Vega) defeated R-Truth (w/Carmella)

Almas attacked Truth to start the match but Truth fought back with a hurricanrana. Almas hit a series of back flips into a Pele kick for a near fall. Truth attempted the axe kick but Almas countered out of it.

Almas hung onto the ropes and posed. Vega mimicked the pose on the apron underneath Almas. Carmella pulled Vega off the apron. Truth was distracted and Almas rolled him up with a handful of tights for the win.

Backstage, Naomi wanted to know why Asuka saved her from the IIconics last week. Asuka called them mean and mocked their accent. Naomi said to feel the glow and Asuka thought she said go. Asuka spoke in Japanese and Naomi thought she said Teriyaki. 

Maryse (w/The Miz) vs. Brie Bella (w/Daniel Bryan) ended without a winner

Maryse kept stalling at the start of the match and kept escaping to the floor. Bella got on the mic and called Maryse a coward. Miz got on the mic and was upset about the coward comment. He said that Bella doesn’t deserve to be in the same ring as Maryse. He said the fans don’t deserve it either and the match is over. They started to walk away but Bella chased after Maryse and threw her into the ring.

Miz jumped on apron but Bryan chased him off. Maryse rocked Bella with a kick for a near fall. Maryse attempted to punch Bella in the face but Bella reversed into the Yes Lock.

Miz pulled Bella out of the ring and she landed on the floor hard. Bryan snapped and attacked Miz. They fought in the ring and Bryan accidently fell out of the ring onto Bella. Bryan was checking on his wife when Miz jumped Bryan and threw him into the steps.

Bella fought back and threatened to punch Miz in the face. Maryse attempted the DDT but Bella countered. Miz pulled Bella off and Bryan attacked Miz again. Bryan attempted to punch Miz in the face but he backed off. Miz turned around and Bella punched him in the face instead.
