Mercedes Martinez wins Impact Knockouts Knockdown tournament

Mercedes Martinez has won the Impact Knockouts Knockdown tournament.

The 20-year veteran earned a future Knockouts Championship match with her tournament victory on tonight's Knockouts Knockdown special on Impact Plus.

Martinez defeated Brandi Lauren in the first round, Rachael Ellering in round two, then defeated former Knockouts Tag Team Champion Tasha Steelz in the finals of the eight-person tournament. Martinez pinned Steelz with a KO bomb.

Martinez debuted for the promotion on the October 7 edition of Impact TV in a trios match.

Prior to Impact, Martinez worked for both other major national promotions in the US. She was signed to WWE in January 2020, appearing both on NXT television and in the 2020 Women's Royal Rumble match. Martinez had an abbreviated main roster stint as a member of the RETRIBUTION group, but ultimately returned to NXT before wrestling a single main roster match. She was released by WWE in August 2021.

Martinez also had an extremely short stint with AEW. She debuted in the company in August 2019, appearing as the joker in the Women's Casino Battle Royale at the All Out pay-per-view. She would wrestle just once more for the promotion, teaming with the since-retired Sadie Gibs on the November 5, 2019 episode of Dark.
