Goldberg: I’m entering the 2017 Royal Rumble match

The 2017 Royal Rumble has its first entrant.

In the opening segment of tonight’s episode of Raw, Goldberg announced his intent to enter next year’s Royal Rumble match and said that he has one more title run left in him. Dave Meltzer reported that Goldberg was set to appear on the show after his program with Brock Lesnar got over so well, and the topic was discussed on last night’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio with Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez.

Following his dominant and decisive victory over Lesnar at Survivor Series, Goldberg opened Raw by thanking the fans for allowing him to be Goldberg again, his wife for putting up with him when he was training for the match, and his son for giving him the desire to be a superhero again.

The storyline reason behind Goldberg entering the Rumble match was framed as Stephanie McMahon approaching him after defeating Lesnar and asking him if he has another title run left in him. Goldberg asked the fans if he did, and they responded with “Yes!” chants before he confirmed that he’s entering the match. He said that at the Royal Rumble — everyone is next.

The 2017 Royal Rumble is scheduled for January 29th at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.
