Conor McGregor claims UFC champion is ‘woeful’

Conor McGregor Paramount Interview

Conor McGregor is set to compete in the octagon once again when he faces Max Holloway at UFC 329 on Saturday, July 11th. Speaking to Paramount ahead of his return, the Irish star said that new Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje is “woeful” and “atrocious” at times when he fights:

“Max has flatlined Justin. He knocked him out. Face down. Out cold. Justin’s OK. When he’s on, Justin’s OK. When he’s bad, he’s atrocious. He’s woeful. He slaps his punches a lot. But he’s very, very durable and he’s unorthodox in his style.

For sure I can make a run at the title. I’m a 170-pound fighter now. I already held the 155-pound unified UFC world title. I’m open for business. I wish for activity. I’ve got a great fight in front of me.

Conor McGregor Next Fight

Conor McGregor will be heading back to the octagon to face Max Holloway on Saturday, July 11th at UFC 329. This will be McGregor’s first fight back since his loss to Dustin Poirier back in July 2021 at UFC 264. McGregor comes in as the underdog against Holloway, although the fight will be contested at 170lbs/Welterweight.

Gaethje himself has said (on The Jim Rome Show) that he would be more than happy to get in the octagon with McGregor to defend his 155lb title:

“As I’ve stated hundreds of times publicly. I would love to punch Conor McGregor in the face. There’s no doubt he’s one of the biggest superstars in the sport. Fighting a guy like that obviously does great things for me financially and for my legendary status and stuff like that.”
