NJPW G1 Climax 36 night three results, updated standings
The G1 Climax 36 continued on Sunday with a show from Sapporo.
Yuya Uemura defeated Zack Sabre Jr. with a High Fly Flow followed by a diving crossbody he calls the Lion’s Shiner in the main event. With the win, Uemura improved to 1-1 in the tournament, but also has a default victory over the injured Shota Umino to bring his points total to four. He lost to Callum Newman on night one in Chicago.
Uemura said after the match (translated):
“Got to be honest, I’m delighted right now. I’ve seen a new goal in front of me. I promise I will submit the world’s best technical wrestler ZSJ someday! Thank you for coming today. The G1 will keep going. I’ll win it and bring the trophy back to Hokkaido for our September tour!”
Newman suffered an upset in the semi-main event of the show, succumbing to multiple instances of House of Torture interference and losing to Ren Narita. Newman appeared to tap out quickly to the Cattle Mutilation submission, as Walker Stewart noted on commentary that Newman’s injured shoulder could be a factor throughout the tournament, specifically in his match against ZSJ.
Gabe Kidd needed a little under eight minutes to defeat OSKAR with a piledriver, bringing his record to 1-1. Kidd also has a default victory over Umino, bringing his points total to four.
In the first tournament match of the show, HENARE defeated Drilla Moloney with a sit-out powerbomb.
At the end of night three, everyone in B Block except ZSJ and Umino sits at four points.
