AEW Dynamite live results: Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega & Jon Moxley team up

AEW Dynamite is live tonight from The Pinnacle in Nashville, Tennessee.

A trios match featuring Will Ospreay, Jon Moxley, and Kenny Omega against the Don Callis Family’s Jake Doyle, Brian Cage, and Hechicero is scheduled for the show.

Kevin Knight will put his TNT Championship on the line against Darby Allin.

The AEW Women’s World Tag Team titles will also be defended as Divine Dominion’s Megan Bayne and Lena Kross face the Sisters of Sin, Julia Hart and Skye Blue, in a no disqualification match.

AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla and Willow Nightingale are set to have a face-to-face, while Clark Connors of the Dogs will take on Jay White of the Bang Bang Gang.

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Tony Schiavone & Taz, as they run down the main events for Sunday and tonight before going backstage to Kenny Omega & Will Ospreay. A very chipper Ospreay says that every time he & Omega have teamed, they’re undefeated. Last time they teamed, Ospreay said Omega was winded, so anytime he needs to tag out to his friend Bill, he’ll pick up the slack. Omega says Bill has a big match at the PPV, too, so if he’s feeling a little sore on the neck, he’ll be there to reach out to as well. Jon Moxley walks in saying there’s no tension in this room and leaves, as Omega goes the opposite direction, saying there wasn’t.

Kevin Knight vs. Darby Allin for the TNT Title

(Knight needed a strong showing here heading into the World Title match this Sunday and he certainly did just that, even the finish I was fine with, he’s a heel after all. This finish does give Allin an out down the line if they so choose, as Knight, heel or not, had to rely on shenanigans to retain. Allin had most of his offense during picture-in-picture, so Knight controlled a majority of this. I still hope we get more from Knight before the night is over to really drive home that he has any chance to win at Redemption.)

Renee Paquette is ringside bringing up Allin withdrawing from the Continental Classic last year due to injuries suffered by Knight, who vows tonight he will out-wrestle Allin. Bell hasn’t rung, but Allin hits a low Tope on Knight, chucking him into the crowd. Head start from Allin, who flips with Knight back over the barricade. Sitting Knight on top of the timekeeper’s area, Allin quickly goes up top with a massive dive from the post onto the timekeepers table, which didn’t break (I am the table). Bell officially sounds, as Knight rakes the eyes on the ramp, shoves Allin off, crotching him onto the guard rail and hit a springboard back elbow to follow. Knight repositions the steps and slingshots Allin up, popping the top of the steps high in the air, busting Allin opened. Back in the ring, Knight took Allin up to the corner, where Allin battled back into an Avalanche Code Red pancaking Knight, as a proper one followed for two. Up the corner again, this time with Anvil elbows from Allin, who sent Knight outside and met him with a Coffin Drop heading to break.

Allin really zones in on the left arm and wrist during commercial, but Knight won’t stay down, so Allin was relentless with forearms to ensure that happened. As things returned from break, both men collide wildly with a double cross body attempt, each turning inside out for the reset. Tilt-a-whirl back breaker from Knight as both got to their feet for a near fall. Allin was about to respond with a Scorpion Death Drop, but Knight sent Allin colliding with referee Paul Turner, knocking him to the floor. Knight waffled Allin with a clothesline and went outside to grab the TNT Title, but Allin ducked a shot and hit a Scorpion Death Drop. Allin took a long look at the belt, threw it away and went for a Coffin Drop, but was crotched, as Knight clocked him in the back of the head with the title, hanging Allin in the Tree of Woe. Knight connects with the Coast to Coast, drags Turner back into the ring and hit the UFO Splash for the win.

Post-match, Knight celebrates his win, as Kyle Fletcher’s music hits, followed by Kazuchika Okada, as ProtOkada make their way to the ring before our next match after break.

Match Result: Kevin Knight defeated Darby Allin to retain the TNT Title

-We come back to Renee Paquette in the ring with nearly the entire Don Callis Family. Mark Davis mentioned laying out Andrade on Collision last week. Knight brings up having the most TNT Title defenses in a row, breaking Kyle Fletcher’s record and how he did it without the Callis Family. Paquette bails, as Fletcher says Knight thinks he’s really impressive and hopes he becomes Jet 2 Belts, telling Knight to get his hands off his International Title. Fletcher said he doesn’t need help from the Family either and he’s going to make sure everyone is banned from ringside this Sunday in his match with Bandido. Fletcher said also, let’s have some fun, everyone is banned for their match with Brodido right now, so get the hell out of his ring. Fletcher & Knight have to be separated, as Callis joins commentary, saying wild horses gotta run.

ProtOkada (AEW International Champion Kyle Fletcher & Kazuchika Okada) vs. Brodido (ROH Champion Bandido & Brody King)

(Exactly what you’d expect in a tag match with these four, as they are already starting the dissension between ProtOkada, which I’m sure will come into play at All In. It certainly makes sense for Bandido to pick up the win here, but it feels all too often this is the case where Bandido picks up TV wins and then loses at the PPV for a different title. I’m sure it will be an excellent PPV match, but I don’t see Fletcher dropping the International Title this Sunday. I honestly wouldn’t mind Brodido back in the Tag Title picture for a bit if it were up to me. If feels like they just get going, then Bandido goes after another singles title.)

Fast start from Bandido & Fletcher, as it’s Bandido to get the early takedowns and stand tall, leaving Fletcher reeling. King tags in and we get locomotion corner splashes, stun gun and back suplex combo, leading to an Electric Chair splash/senton and cazadora/chop/facebuster trifecta for two. Bandido & Fletcher trade suplex attempts, as Okada made a blind tag to blindside Bandido, as King tags in and we get a slugfest. Locomotion corner splashes from the Callis Family, as Bandido tries to run in for the save, but eats a double flapjack. ProtOkada shake hands heading to break, as Callis called Bandido a cocky little bugger, who got what was coming.

Bandido was isolated the entire break, where Okada did a slingshot senton and hilariously barked at King. Finally, Bandido ducked a Rainmaker, vaulted off the back of Fletcher to make the hot tag to King, who ran wild with splashes, clotheslines and a brutal Death Valley Driver to Fletcher on the apron. Huge combo of clotheslines flattens Okada for two, as King missed a Gonzo Bomb, Okada missed Rainmaker, but successfully hit an impressive Air Raid Crash neckbreaker for the reset. Fletcher tags in, cracking King with his sprinting corner kick, but ran into a Boss Man Slam by King for a near fall. Bandido back in and we get a slugfest with him & Fletcher, as Bandido flipped out of a powerbomb, went for a springboard, but got swatted in mid-air with a Fletcher thrust kick. Fletcher wanted a powerbomb again, but Bandido countered into a Code Red for two, as Okada just got his fingertips in to break the count.

King & Okada battle outside, as Fletcher fights off a 21-Plex and hit a Half and Half. Fletcher ran right into a pop-up facebuster by Bandido for two, as it’s followed up by a Frog Splash for the closest near fall of the match. Brodido wanted their monkey flip splash, but Okada was there with his dropkick mid flip. Fletcher hit a thrust kick on King, as Okada went for a Rainmaker, King ducked and Okada took out his partner, somewhat shrugging as a result. Okada turned into a rolling elbow and Tope outside from King, as Bandido was back up for the 21-Plex, spiking Fletcher for the victory.

Post-match, Fletcher got into Okada’s face ringside screaming it was his fault he lost, as Davis & Lance Archer held him back, as Okada bailed up the ramp alone with his head hanging low. Brodido stared down the Callis crew, as we were about to get a 3 on 2 attack, when Andrade El Idolo hit the ring to even the numbers. Fletcher & Davis held u their titles, with Andrade & Bandido signaling they will be taking them home on Sunday, as Andrade is showing off the Dynamite Diamond Ring.

Match Result: Brodido defeated ProtOkada when Bandido pinned Fletcher

Thekla & Willow Nighitngale Face-to-Face

Foley introduces Thekla first, who is out with Julia Hart & Skye Blue, as they show off their newly won Artist of Stardom titles before they head to the back. Thekla calls herself Thekla 2 Belts, as Foley brings out Nightingale, asking if she’s ready for the task at hand? Nightingale said it’s nice to see everyone, even Thekla, instead of a cheap shot behind her back. Nightingale came back from a shoulder injury and there’s only one match keeping her from her dream of becoming AEW Women’s World Champion. Thekla is glad to have her back, she knows she’s made up of rainbows and birds chirping, but she’s talking to the Toxic One and doesn’t buy any of that Smile Anyway crap. Thekla says Nightingale is poisoned inside, balling up all her crap, so she’s going to beat that poison out of her, so everyone can see how ugly she truly is. Nightingale said she’s never had to convince anyone who she really is, as everyone knows this Toxic act is a façade, as Thekla walks around like the biggest and toughest, but it’s because she feels so small. While Thekla has swagger, she’s just a shortcut for Nightingale to get to the belt she really wants.

Foley steps between both from getting physical, saying he sees part of himself in Nightingale, as they were champions on TBS and both have taken beatings, yet smiled through it, even if Nightingale had more teeth than he did. Thekla cut him off, telling Foley to shut the hell up, as Nightingale said that’s enough of the disrespect, as Thekla is acting like the dumb b*tch, as Foley is a legend, as they’ve stopped at nothing to get what they want, as she’s going to do the same on Sunday. At Redemption, both have everything to lose, as they want to walk into Wembley as Women’s Champion, but Nightingale will put every ounce of blood into ensuring it is her. Thekla asks if Nightingale stole her line, but says on Sunday, when she’s standing over her beaten and bloodied with her dreams pissed on, just remember, Smile Anyway. Thekla slapped Nightingale, as Foley stood between them, allowing Thekla to get a cheap shot with a microphone. Both ladies spill to the ring, as Thekla flipped off Foley, holding up both her belts, staring Foley down. Thekla took her belt off went to whip Nightingale, who exploded up into a Pounce, launching Thekla outside, as the challenger stands tall. This was a good go-home segment with these two.

-Video package for Hikaru Shida vs. Maya World for the TBS Title at Redemption this Sunday is shown. World is looking to win her first title in AEW, while Shida says it will continue to be The Best is Shida. We learn that World & Willow Nightingale will face Thekla & Shida on Collision.

Switchblade Jay White vs. Clark Connors

(The first singles match for White in 15+ months and it was quiet for a chunk of Connors controlling the action. It did pick up down the stretch, as I’m certainly just happy to see White back in action after such a long layoff and hope he can stay healthy for a successful singles push that many have wanted since he showed up in AEW. While I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a White vs. Finlay match on Sunday, I also wouldn’t mind if they built it up a little more and we instead get a tag match or something with White & Robinson vs. The Dogs to further the storyline.)

Bang Bang Gang did their entrance with White, who is still carrying David Finlay’s shillelagh, as Connors plays cat and mouse to start. Finally, inside White nearly got a Blade Runner, Connors scrambled, but White mowed him down with a shoulder tackle before working the wrist. Front face suplex delivered on the edge of the ring outside, before back inside, White hit a body shot that crumbled Connors, sending him crawling up the ramp. Connors grabbed referee Rick Knox and threw him into White, giving him a chance to hit a Spear through the ropes to the ramp as things go to break. It remained all Connors throughout commercial, as he draped White over the apron and steamrolled through him before lighting a match, burning White with it. Sitting White down on a chair, Connors sprinted, but crashed and burned on a tackle, getting wasted by the chair.

White regroups back inside, snapping Connors with a Dragon Screw, before firing off uppercuts and a big back body drop. DDT spiked Connors for a near fall, but Connors went back to the eyes and launched White with a Spear across the ring. Connors fired some finger guns and the delay allowed a Uranage from White for two. Connors ducked a lariat into a release German and overhead throw to follow. Connors signaled for a proper Spear, but White had it scouted, missed Blade Runner, settling for a Cutthroat Suplex. Connors rolled out of Blade Runner into a school boy with a handful of tights for two. He went for the Spear again, but leapt into a White guillotine choke, as White rolled into a bridge for the submission.

Post-match, Connors came to, tried to attack, but walked right into a Blade Runner. David Finlay appeared and cracked White with the shillelagh before Juice Robinson sprinted to the ring with the rest of the Bang Bang Gang, as Finlay & Connors bailed through the crowd. I fully expect a Robinson vs. Finlay match happening as soon as this Saturday.

-Adam Copeland & Christian Cage are backstage just getting going cutting a promo, when they’re both attacked by Claudio Castagnoli & PAC. Copeland is driven down on a steel crate with a PAC Curb Stomp, as he can’t believe they have the audacity to challenge them for a Tag Title match, as they think they can cake walk the Death Riders? They’ve bitten off way more than they can chew, as he & Castagnoli will remind them Sunday exactly what the Death Riders are capable of and ruin their homecoming.

Divine Dominion (Megan Bayne & Lena Kross) vs. Sisters of Sin (Julia Hart & Skye Blue) in a No DQ match for the AEW Women’s Tag Team Titles

(Very hard-hitting match this was, as Kross & Bayne remain unstoppable against anyone in their path. It does seem like The Brawling Birds are the ones who want the title shot come Wembley, so I assume that will be built up soon. Hart & Blue put up a good fight, but with Hart leaving for Japan soon, it makes total sense for them to lose here tonight.)

Excalibur talks about Triangle of Madness winning the Artist of Stardom titles last week in Japan and also Hart taking part of this years 5 Star Grand Prix. Hart & Blue attack with kendo sticks to start, as they sent Kross & Bayne (both rocking custom Divine Dominion hockey jerseys) to the outside, where Blue hit a PK and Hart a cannonball senton. Hart & Blue set up a table ringside, as Hart locked Kross in a Tarantula, with Blue ping ponging the Champions with kendo shots. Bayne ducked a forearm, as Hart clobbered Blue, as we’re told Hart apparently had a screwdriver during that shot (we never actually could see this, so I’ll take Excalibur’s word for it). Hart tried her rope walk hurricanrana on Kross, who held on and smashed Hart face first onto a chair that Bayne had placed in the corner. Blue is up bleeding, as Kross & Bayne violently chuck chairs at her face heading to break.

During commercial, Kross & Bayne set up a table at the top of the ramp and placed chairs front to front by it as well. That delay allowed Blue & Hart to battle back, as Bayne stood on the chairs, looking for a suplex on Hart, but Blue saved her partner and they powerbombed Bayne through the table. Kross is bounced around with forearms and thrust kicks in the ring, as Hart & Blue hit a front face suplex and double superkick for two resulting in a gif worthy reaction shot from Hart. Kross starts fighting back, as Bayne recovered enough to return and hit a succession of boots and release German on Hart for two. Thrust kick from Blue, flying boot from Bayne, thrust kick from Hart, thrust kick from Kross and everyone is down for the reset.

Bayne & Kross grab the AEW Women’s Tag Titles, while Blue & Hart grab their Artist of Stardom Titles, as Kross & Bayne whiff and Hart & Blue spike them with double DDTs on the titles for dueling two counts. Bayne & Hart battle outside, as Kross & Blue up the ropes in the corner, until Blue slid out with a Cheeky Nandos kick. Blue goes to the apron and wants a superplex, but Bayne chokeslams her off the apron through the table ringside. Hart back in, as she sinks in the Black Widow submission on Bayne, who powers up, swings Hart in position for a Tombstone. Kross & Bayne deliver the From Heaven to Hell chokeslam for the win.

Match Result: Divine Dominion defeated Sisters of Sin to retain the AEW Women’s Tag Team Titles when Bayne pinned Hart

-Bang Bang Gang are backstage, as Juice Robinson suggest they chain The Dogs up to the Bang Bang Gang at Redemption and challenges Connors & Finlay to a Double Dog Collar Match. Jay White said they are going to give Finlay the beating his father should’ve, as they’re going to make a man out of him yet. There’s that tag match I said I hope would happen earlier in my review.

AEW World Champion Kenny Omega & Death Riders (AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley & Will Ospreay) vs. Don Callis Family (Hechicero, Brian Cage & Jake Doyle)

(Action-packed party match to close the show and create dissension between Omega & Ospreay as we inch closer to Wembley, with Moxley right in the middle of it. I’m glad they got Knight involved to close the show, which was needed and gives him that always talked about advantage heading into the PPV. It was interesting at one point during this match, Ospreay chose to make the hot tag to Omega and not Moxley, so I’m interested to see if that’s addressed at some point in a promo.)

Renee Paquette is ringside bringing up how Omega is feeling from that grueling match at Beach Break a few weeks ago, as Omega told her the champ’s job is never done. Hechicero & Ospreay kick things off with mat work and submissions attempts aplenty leading to a stalemate. Ospreay tried to pick up the pace with a snap hurricanrana, as we get fast tags with Ospreay & Omega and Ospreay & Moxley, until Ospreay pulled a tag from Omega, telling him to tag Moxley and Omega reluctantly does so in the lightest tag imaginable. That delay allowed Doyle to tag in and stomp a hole in Moxley in the corner, but opted to pose, was sent outside, where Moxley hit a Tope. Back inside, Moxley was worked over, as referee Bryce was arguing with Ospreay & Omega. Moxley reversed a whip on Doyle and tags in Ospreay, who fired off Kawada Kicks and wall walk enzugiri. Cage tags in and like the machine he is, mowed down Ospreay with ease, but Ospreay answered with a Stundog Millionaire. Ospreay teased a dive, but Doyle flew in with a body block. Cage suplexed both Omega & Ospreay at the same time, as Hechicero stomped out Moxley ringside heading into break.

Ospreay was worked over all of commercial, until he was finally able to hit a desperation corkscrew kick for the double down. Ospreay looked up to both teammates and chose Omega for the hot tag. Cage ducked a rolling sledge, but Omega still was able to hit You Can’t Escape for an impressive near fall. Cage battled right back with a F-5, tagging in Hechicero, who hit a violently loud knee lift in the corner and zoned in on the knee with a reverse figure-four. Moxley debated offering a tag, as Omega screamed he doesn’t need him, as Moxley said screw it and held out his hand, but Hechicero locked in an arm breaker. Moxley stomped down to break the submission and slugged it out with Cage & Doyle. Omega saved him from a double team as a slugfest with all four men ensues. Doyle got sent outside and Cage face palmed to the mat by Omega. Hechciero was ping-ponged until Ospreay flew in with Pip, Pip, Cheerio. Locomotion corner strikes from Death Riders, as Omega joined the party leading to a Moxley cutter to a loud ovation.

Ospreay with a slingshot cross body on Doyle, as Omega tried to Half and Half a man the size of a refrigerator in Cage, so Moxley came in with a big boot to help the move get delivered. Moxley tried one on Hechicero, Omega wanted a V-Trigger, but clocked Moxley in the process. Moxley rolled outside and Omega was spiked with a Hechicero flying guillotine for two. Pumphandle knee from Cage, as Omega was fed into a pop-up forearm from Doyle for two, as Ospreay just made the save and got beat down for his efforts. Hechicero went up top, as Cage & Doyle wanted a double powerbomb, but was crotched by Moxley, as Ospreay & Omega hit double hurricanranas. Hidden Blade/V-Trigger combo connects on Doyle & Cage, as Hechciero ate a stereo Hidden Blade/V-Tigger with Omega picking up the pin.

Post-match, Omega handed Moxley the Continental Title and tried to apologize for hitting the V-Trigger earlier, but Moxley shoved him. We get a face-off with Ospreay separating the two, as Omega shoved him down and Osperay got in his face. The Young Bucks come out to play peacemakers, but Moxley shoved down Matt and the fight is on with Death Riders & The Bucks. In this fight, Ospreay caught Omega with a back elbow in the process. RPG Vice hit the ring for some reason and both get their asses kicked single handedly by Omega with Half and Halfs and they’re both were about to take V-Triggers, when Kevin Knight flew in off the top with a TNT Title shot. Knight held up the TNT & AEW World Title, as this busted Omega open in the process. The show ends with Jet 2 Belts holding the titles over a downed Omega.
