Tony Khan expects Mick Foley to be a ‘more regular’ presence in AEW going forward
We haven’t seen too much of Mick Foley since he signed with AEW, but Tony Khan expects the Hardcore Legend to be around more often going forward.
The 61-year-old Foley debuted for AEW at Double or Nothing in May and then took part in an angle with Don Callis on the Beach Break edition of Dynamite this month. Ahead of Sunday’s Redemption pay-per-view, Khan appeared on the Battleground Podcast and addressed the value Foley brings to AEW. Foley won’t be around every single week, but we’ll be seeing him on AEW programming more often.
“He adds a lot of experience. He also brings a lot of positivity, and he’s having a great time,” Khan said. “We’ve really enjoyed having Mick so far at AEW at Double or Nothing and at Beach Break. Fittingly, these are two of the best nights in the history of the company. So he picked two great nights to make his debut on pay-per-view with AEW at Double or Nothing and on TV with AEW at Beach Break.
“So when Mick is in the house, you know good things are going to happen. And Mick’s going to be a more regular presence in the show, I think. Not necessarily every single week, but I’m excited to have Mick come in more and more.”
Foley’s schedule includes some convention appearances and one-man shows that were already booked before he signed with AEW. He’ll be at a convention in North Carolina this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday but has Sunday free for a potential Redemption appearance. He’ll be in London next month for AEW All In 2026.
Khan said Foley is a unique figure because of all he’s accomplished both inside and out of the ring. Having someone like that around is a benefit to everyone in the AEW locker room.
“He seems to really enjoy it and we love having him here,” Khan said about Foley. “And the wrestlers can benefit from his experience, his ideas. He’s coming in with a fresh pair of eyes, which is always good to get the perspective of somebody that hasn’t been backstage hearing the same ideas and hear some fresh thoughts.
“And also in the case of Mick, his experience is very unique because the things Mick has accomplished in the sport of wrestling are very different. He’s got a career path and a list of accomplishments that are very, very different than many other people. He’s an accomplished writer. He’s a brilliant man outside of the ring, but also such a great wrestler and a hard hitter. But somebody also that was willing to take big risks. And certainly it has taken a big toll on his body, but I’m very glad that Mick is still getting around very well and in good shape. He looks great, and we love having Mick here in All Elite Wrestling.”
Mick Foley’s AEW role and the potential for one more match —
Foley co-hosted the pre-show for Double or Nothing 2026 and is open to helping AEW in a variety of ways. He isn’t closing the door on returning for one more match, but Foley feels he still has more work to do to get in better shape before that could happen. Foley is open to another match if all of the stars align correctly and he feels like he wouldn’t embarrass himself in the ring.
In recent years, Foley has lost a significant amount of weight and is moving around better with the help of that and the knee and hip replacements he’s undergone in the past.
